Split Necklace Update 6/15/2024

FUCK IT'S HOT OUTSIDE! It's summer time, and it's hell. When you still live with your parents and are stuck in the attic. Though you're not here to listen to a 25 year old loser, you're here for an update to the game... so after months of looking over my old "design dock" I decided to restart things. Nothing was really working for me, so screw it everything has restarted. Characters, and plot will be the same, its just how things are structured. I thought about learning to code because I found a free dev program called GameMaker, and it has 3D capabilities. The only reason I thought about 3D is because of my love of fixed camera horror games, but I may not go for that because I have no 3D modeling experience. Maybe in something else, but for Split Necklace it's still gonna be in RPG Maker. The chapters will still be named after rooms in the temple from Legends of the Hidden Temple. Especially the Jester's Court, I love the idea I have for it, but I need to write the story first. I think that'll be slightly easier to do at the moment. I need to get that out of my head so I can focus on the levels themselves!

Hopefully it's a good game, but since it's horror, that's gonna be hard to do. Regardless, this may of been a short update, but thanks for sticking around the game!

Split Necklace 1/30/24

I don't have much to actually talk about, I haven't been working on Split Necklace for a while. At this point I may restart my "design doc," well it's just a paper tablet, but something is bugging me when rereading it. Not really sure what so I may redo it, character names will be the same, but the story outline may be radically different. It's still gonna be SAW but anime, which is still ironic because while I maybe 25 I still have a fear of that puppet from that series. I think I'm gonna rework the character design. Only to make everyone, but Ken, stand out a little more. The reason why I singled Ken out is because I want to attempt the Silent Hill 1 thing they did with Harry. A neutral looking man so the player can fully immerse themselves in. Due to my fear of it, I don't know much about SAW but I would imagine due to some of the stuff victims had to go through, stuff like getting a key on a pendulum before getting slashed by a saw blade, being super glued to a car going high speed, and something called a reverse bear trap, things would be very tense to go through yourself. Before you ask I have friends who are fans of SAW and while it's not completely accurate I got board and decided to look up the plot summaries on Chat GPT. They're kind of stupid, but the basic premise of how badly do you want to live is a neat idea which is why I'm still working on this to some extent, but I'm trying to write outlines for other projects.

Said projects are two comics, one is a Super Sentai fan comic I had in mind since high school called V-Ranger. I have the cast, their respected colors, and the villain I just need to write an outline. The other is called My Foreign Boyfriend, about a Japanese woman being in a relationship with an American that moved to Japan. Currently writing that outline, while coming up with chapter ideas. I know exactly how I want it to begin and end just need to fill in the gaps.

To focus on the topic of this post, I'm still gonna keep the Legends of the Hidden Temple names for the chapters. As to why, the biggest reason is because I honestly love that show and the Jester's Court was the 1st thing to come to mind. Not sure why it did, it just happened. As to the other reason, it's kind of like how the crew who made Regular Show did their episodes. From my understanding they had the episode title 1st then just came up with ideas for it that episodes. So looking at all 4 seasons I think I can come up with something good. Thinking about it now, I want the Jester's Court to be the 1st level so I think it's just gonna be one body part to collect. Keep things simple, but right now the biggest thing that I want to work on is the story itself. That's a big focus of it, not to the extent that the gameplay will be trash. Trying to make it survival horror game, there will be an HP meter. Both a bar in the pause screen, and visually. A kin to how Haunting Ground and Resident Evil Revelations displayed HP. Making the screen a bit of a visual mess, but at the moment I will most likely get someone who knows Javascript to get some codes made for things, but at the moment it's unnecessary.

I do apologize for lack of updates, and screen shots in this update. This is low priority for me, and if y'all lost interest I understand. However once I figured out somethings about how I want to proceed development will continue! Hopefully the real world won't get in the way... but that maybe out of my hands, because life sucks. Regardless thanks for reading this update!

Question…

What are y’all’s opinion on Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. It’s one of the 1st Kamen raider seasons I watched and I didn’t like at 1st rewatched it during my senior year of high school and loved it, though when I watch it original, Kamen Rider Ryuki I hated it. Thought it was boring, primarily thanks to the main character Shinji, but just felt bored all the way through. It’s not that I don’t like Kamen Rider, I enjoyed the other seasons I watch (Fourze, Gaim, and Kabuto) but Ryuki has never clicked. Did appreciate the twist at then end, but that was really it. I’m doing a Heisei Kamen Rider Marathon, breaking it up between phases so I don’t go insane and most likely will do the kingdom hearts marathon after phase 1, but since I’m not a fan of my original Dragon Knight video I’ll be making a redux of it to better get my point across about the show. Though I really want to know people’s thoughts on it wether or not you just think Ryuki, hate the morph call (that being “Kamen Rider”), or just find it boring.

Split Necklace Update 1

Hello! It’s been a while since I posted on this site or Gamejolt where this game is going to be posted. To inform my small Twitter audience, I am making a game called Split Necklace. It's a horror game that’s inspired by SAW. Though it’s ironic that SAW inspired this game, because ever since I was a kid I’ve been afraid of that damn puppet. Nightmares can be a really good source of inspiration. In short, the game follows Izumi, Ken an American living in Japan while a string of murders started. He finds out that his girlfriend, Fujimoto, Kagami is the one behind. However, that's not really because she has another soul within her that's doing the killing. So if the game sounds interesting the GameJolt page will be linked. 

 Now at this point in time, I have the over-arcing story mapped out, and the prologue has been written. Things have been going slowly, but thanks to work and my ADHD it's been a tad bit hard to really work on this. It's the reason why I haven't uploaded a lot on YouTube with my most recent video being about Pokémon Gen 9, with videos on both Devil May Cry V and Pokémon Legends Arceus scripted ready to be voiced. I have been streaming to twitch, but it's been more lad back streams with me going through Splatoon 2. Though to focus on this game, as I said the prolouge is done, but I have started figuring out the 1st level of the game. This area is called the Jester's Court, thanks to Legends of the Hidden Temple getting that reboot I decided to base the level on that room. Instead of pressing one's self against the correct wallpainting, you're putting bodies back together. The gif below is current form of The Jesters Court, and as you can see I have the premade assets as a stand in.

I'm probably will commission someone to make unique assets for the map. Though I just need to fully map out these areas before I even think about making these assets for myself or getting them commissioned. At this point I still haven't figured out the general level design, but my main priority is getting getting from Ken hearing about the murders, finding out that Kagami is doing them, and the whole play a game thing. Working on the story is my main priority, along with the character design. I'm not the best at art, at this point I can only do heads from the front and side, but I do want to wait to show off the characters until I get feed back from a friend of mine and make their references. Well I mean Kagami, and how she looks when the Main Antagonist takes over is shown on the GameJolt page, but not full renders.

I do have their heads done, but I have yet to figure what the characters will wear. Hopefully I won't make this game to long, my biggest concern is length. I don't want this game to be to long since I'm trying to make this into a stealth puzzle game. In the same vein as something like Metal Gear Ghost Babel, minus the overly long cutscenes and action sequences. Ken will not be arming up, aside from distractions and the like, but a gun or anything of the like will be a no. He's a English teacher after all, not a fighter, so he's going to have fun putting these bodies back together in the Jester's Court. I don't want this to be to gory, while I am afraid of SAW I know how gory it can get. I think one of my friends told me a part where Jigsaw's victums had to get a key from a bucket of acid or else a device implated in them will rip out their lungs. Don't get me wrong their will be gore, but hopefully with things being tone down a bit when a really gory bit comes up will be more shocking. Hopefully I don't do anything to close to the movie series, thanks to my friends I know some of the stuff that happened so hopefully I don't do anything to close.

From here on out I will try to give regular updates on the progress of the game, and if there will be a playable build of a section of the game. Thank you for reading, and hopefully this will be something worth playing!

I’m not dead… and this show has finally been released. Wasn’t expecting to come back with this video, but I also didn’t expect this show to come out so soon after its actual trailer. Though this is f*cking boring as all hell, and no hate to the show’s creator, I’m sure he’s a nice dude, but this was a boring final product. It could have worked if it had more episodes because it’s been rushed to hell and back. Though the biggest issue is the lack of world-building because I mention in the video itself that I have no clue what a f*cking guardian is. There are more issues I have, which you gotta watch the video to see what they are in my review of High Guardian Spice.

I don't have much to say about Luigi's Mansion, except that it's fun! I regret not getting it as a kid, but having the 3Ds version isn't a bad option. The only sour point to this game is the exploration and capturing the Boos, but that's the short version, so let's dive in a little deeper.
