esther was taken aback by maitê remembering her middle name, considering she was pretty sure the other hated her mostly. she blinked, “what would i have done?” she repeated the question slowly, trying not to seem completely flustered by the other woman, “that’s a dumb question,” she told her, “because, based on what i know about you, if you said yes... you would call the shots. and, so, you would tell me what to do.” esther knew maitê liked control- esther did not- and she knew a little about her sexual history. so, esther was pretty confident that her answer was correct. of course, she was sure maitê would find some sort of fault with it.

luci shook his head, reaching out for her for a moment before dropping his hand back to his side, “don’t- veronica, it’s ok. don’t apologize. i’m just... so confused.” he sighed, “look at me, i-” lucius huffed, rubbing the back of his neck, “let’s just talk about this, yeah? you don’t have to leave.” though, he was quite sure his pleas would go unheard. and though he wanted an explanation, maybe it would be better without one. maybe too painful with one.

at least esther had gotten her cue to change the topic without her having to say anything; that was an undeniable progress between the pair’s dynamic, considering the other femme had a habit of going on and on about nothing she cared for. “oh? i’m not, unless this is an invitation to go?” she prompted, batting her eyelashes in a coquettish fashion at the woman she loved taunt. she didn’t think esther had it in her to reply with anything that had substance but she hadn’t ruled it out completely. 

esther let out a laugh, “no?! why would i do that? you would say no, so what’s the point if i know the answer?” she gave her a look that said ‘duh!’ and continued to match maitê’s stride, “i’d sooner ask my hot climate professor. at least she pretends to laugh at my jokes.” esther glanced at her, trying to portray indifference to the best of her ability. though, in reality, it killed her that she couldn’t get maitê to crack.
