purple baby sliver is GenZ, but keep in mind that particular cohort is like three years old. same with millenials: obviously, more people commit suicide over time. there are a lot of caveats with this visualization to the point where it’s barely useful, but I’m soothed in some morbid way by the fact that even the most heartbreaking phenomena can be captured and analyzed, and, coupled with compassionate interpretation, mitigated.

The Green New Deal
H. RES 109: RECOGNIZING THE DUTY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CREATE A GREEN NEW DEAL
116th Congress, 1st Session
In House of Representatives: Feb 7th, 2019
Primarily Referred To: Committee on Energy and Commerce
The resolution begins by addressing a climate change report released by the UN last October. The report’s primary statement was to warn the public that unless humanity takes drastic action, the planet will warm to 1.5 degrees celsius above preindustrial levels in twelve years due to manmade climate change, leading to devastating environmental catastrophe. The resolution stresses the economic loss incurred by the US when this happens, specifically citing from the UN report: “more than 500,000,000,000 dollars in lost economic output in the United States by the year 2100” and “a risk of damage to 1,000,000,000,000 of public infrastructure and coastal real estate in the United States.”
The resolution then goes on to acknowledge America’s responsibility within this crisis: as the main contributor to global emissions (despite being a fraction of the population, we have released 20% of the emissions through 2014), we have to take accountability for the detrimental effects of our actions. Luckily, due to our technological advancement as country, and the fact that we're pretty frickin' rich, we have the potential to mitigate the crisis in the coming decades.
The resolution lists a couple crises the US is faces that it considers exacerbated by climate change, including: a decreasing life expectancy, along with access to clean water and air, healthcare, education, and healthy food; wage stagnation coupled with anti-labor politics; and a large wealth gap that gets even more disproportionate when you factor in gender and race.
The resolution then states that a solution not unlike the New Deal of the World War II era, which "created the greatest middle class that the United States has ever seen," is necessary--- and this time, the solution needs to lift up marginalized communities as well. The resolution asserts that right now, the government needs to create millions of well-paying jobs for Americans and do so while counteracting systemic injustices towards communities of color, low-income or migrant communities, and others who have often been left behind.
This brings us to the Green New Deal: a proclamation that promises to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while transitioning workers into different, more sustainable sectors; millions of well-paying jobs; and a significant investment in sustainable infrastructure to provide all American communities with access to clean water, air, healthcare, education, food, and a good environment. This will be done through building the necessary structures to weather climate-related disasters, eliminating as much pollution as possible, meeting energy demand through sustainable sources, working with the agricultural industry (with an emphasis on small farmers and businesses) to more sustainably provide food for the country, clean up hazardous waste, protect fragile ecosystems, and promote an international exchange of ideas with the intent of designing a better future.
All of these are lofty, expensive goals, but a framework of action is laid out and a stark admission is made: being only 12 years away from basically an environmental apocalypse and entrenched in the biggest wealth gap the country's seen in a century, America cannot afford to not invest in a plan like the Green New Deal.

British Parliament forces Johnson to wait on Brexit
Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was forced to ask the European Union for a three-month extension regarding a Brexit deal (a set of terms for the relationship between the EU and Britain after the latter’s withdrawal from the former), narrowly avoiding a possible “no-deal Brexit” scenario set for October 31st. The UK now has until January of 2020 to come to a conclusive treaty with the EU, and will be voting on Johnson’s proposal on Tuesday.

American troops withdraw from Syrian Kurdish region to Iraq
This leaves the Kurds (a stateless ethnic group spread throughout the Middle East) in Syria with virtually no protection from Turkey, who has been trying to slaughter the people group since World War 1. This also leaves Syrian oil fields vulnerable to claims from both Syria and Russia and also leads to a higher probability of the resurgence of the Islamic State, a radical terrorist group, in Syria.

The Prolitic Project
Not everyone has the time or capacity to stay constantly updated on the events and news that structure and restructure the world around us. As someone with a laptop, wifi, and zero friends, I do. The Prolitic Project is my attempt at making political literacy easy so that every citizen can make informed choices when it comes to molding a better society. Though I, just like anyone else with the ability to formulate opinions, do have my own political biases, I will try my best to keep them out of the content I post: my goal is to create a resource for people to take whatever knowledge they need, not to further muddy the discourse.
The Tumblr side of this project will cover daily updates on certain issues or political stories, while the website version contains more comprehensive information: summaries of political documents, definitions of zeitgeisty terms, and synopses of current events. However, the Tumblr will be where resources for further education will be posted.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about the decisions that shape our world :)
