💫 Why Protection Magic Is Useful (even if you have no enemies)
Tumblr media
A lot of witches will tell new witches (baby witches) that they should start by learning and using protection magic. However, I've started to see a lot of witches say that protection magic is not as important as other witches claim it to be. Saying that they don't have anyone coming after them or an enemy in real life to warrant a spell of protection.
I think this may also be due to how I've not personally come across anyone really explaining why a witch may want to use protection magic all the time.
Now, it is true that there's no need to be paranoid all the time and have protection up 24/7. But here's a list where you may use it, find it useful, or haven't thought protection magic could be included.
An actual person -- This one is obvious, you have an enemy in real life or on the internet and you need protection magic to protect you from their curses.
A malevolant spirit -- They can come from your windows, mirrors (including tv screens, computer screens, and other reflective surfaces maybe), they seep through floor cracks, hanging onto your coats from outside, etc. Just like how you'd use garden gloves to avoid dirt up your nails being trapped there. Protection magic is just like putting on those gloves.
An energy -- Say you have a neighbour who's arguing with someone. They're yelling and screaming and it can be heard through the apartment walls. That negative energy is seeping into your home and your energy. So it may be worth protecting your home and energy from that sour neighbour's energy. (ever been scolded by your mother and your mood is sour? it's kind of like the same here.)
Your own spell -- Now a self-love spell is probably not something you should protect yourself from. But let's say you're doing a curse. It would be a smart idea to make sure you're protected before beginning such a spell. Much like how you'd wear an apron to protect your clothes from stains when cooking food. You may not always spill your food when cooking, but damn it is it annoying when you do and the stain won't wash off. It's the same with a spell.
Unintentionally -- Sometimes things can happen that's out of our control and it's a good idea to be a little prepared. A black cat suddenly running across the street? Bad luck. Someone got jealous when you told them something good? Evil Eye. Think of it as going to the store with an extra bag for your groceries. You may not need it, but isn't it handy when you at one point do need it?
Protection magic doesn't have to be elaborate or grand or be convoluted. Protection magic is powerful but also extremely simple. All you need is a horseshoe above the door, a little talisman in your pocket, a sigil for your car, etc.
So don't dismiss the importance of protection magic. It may help to improve your spellwork and your energy.

I'm so sick of AI, I can't even put it into words😫 Every time I search for images of deities, I only find these fake Ai pictures and can't express how much I hate it. I miss the days when it was easy to find beautiful paintings or artwork created by talented people

Loki
Recently I've been struggling with him, it's not him, it's just things going on in my personal life. The other night I was overwhelmed and frankly I had enough of that day. I felt the call to his alter but genuinely didn't feel like lighting his candle, I didn't wanna have to keep a watch on it also I didn't think I was going to stay awake long enough to put it out, so instead I grabbed his spider I crocheted for him. We sat for a little while and eventually moved to my hammock and watched tik tok with him for a bit. We use to do this all the time but I've since stopped using tik tok as much, and I honestly just needed a moment of how things were. After watching tik tok for a little bit, he told me to clear my mind. Something so simple and something I could've done before without a problem, and I couldn't. I'm still caught on the fact I couldn't, no matter how hectic life had got I've always been able to clear my mind, like maybe not in the moment but certainly later. Eventually I gave up and apologized for not being able to and fell asleep with his spider, I don't remember the dream but I know I had a very warm and fuzzy dream. I went back to him after a little bit of a calmer day and I still couldn't. This is the first time I've not been able to complete something he's asked me to do as well, provided he's not asked for much at all. It just sits with me weird and I feel like I let him down, I don't think he really cares I wasn't able to do it, I think he told me to clear my mind for me anyway, but I just hate I wasn't able to do it, twice. Recently I've been leaning on him a lot more than normal and I'm not sure I'm doing enough to like repay that, ig. I'm just lost, I don't know what else to do, I can't do a simple thing he asked me to, I don't have time, energy, or mental space for shadow work, I don't have many offerings to give him currently, I don't have time to make him anything because I'm to busy making art to eventually sell, I don't know what else to do.

The Ultimate Deity Journal Guide
Similar to my grimoire guide, this is a guide on deity journals.
What Is A Deity Journal?
A deity journal is a journal dedicated to a deity. It’s filled with information, offerings, devotional pieces, etc. If you like journaling or can’t give other physical offerings (like food, libations, etc.), it’s one of the best offerings out there.
What Do I Use For It?
Usually deity journals are physical journals and notebooks. Binders and folders work as well. I have seen deity journals online, using things like Notion or Google Docs. Those are a little harder to format, but are great if you don’t have a notebook or aren’t a fan of physical journals.
So, What Do I Put In It?

The Ultimate Grimoire Guide
So! I have been seeing a ton of grimoire ideas and thought I’d stuff them all together. A lot of ideas are from @manifestationsofasort, @banebite, and @pigeonflavouredcake. Check them out! They have a ton of cool stuff there.
What Do I Use For My Grimoire?
You can use anything for a grimoire! For a physical one, journals, binders, and notebooks are good. For digital ones, Notion, Tumblr, Docs, and even just your file folder are great.

Alters for the elements
Work in progress
I'm going to post again once they're all finished but I want to post it now because I've been exited about it, but have yet to finish them, so here is the work in progress post lol.
Tumblr media
This is the general senses of it, I have to get them painted and actually set up. I've really been wanting to do something to honor the elements and the earth for a while. I had earth and water set up together, but it was a complete mess, so now it won't be. (When it's finished, currently it's an even bigger mess)
I'll probably try to do a post for each alter but like, no guarantee.

When I say "connect with nature" I don't just mean the aesthetic forests with deer and beautiful flowers.
I mean the weeds growing through concrete, the fungus that grows on the rotten shed, the nettles that always seem to return and the scary, spindly cellar spider in the corner of the bathroom.
Nature is not always pretty or magical - the pigeons and seagulls you swat at are nature too, the wasps and flies that hover by your meals are animals too, store-bought strawberries and the leaves that fall from your neighbour's tree are not all that different from the Giant Sequoias and it's seeds.
If you want to connect and understand nature, I mean *really* connect to it, in it's entirety, you have to seek out and learn about the ugly, scary and mundane things as well. You don't have to like it, just don't forget that it's there.

My familiar is a plant? Maybe? Possibly?
So the other day like maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago I bought a English ivy plant. I was buying plants for my leopard gecko's enclosure when I came across the ivy plants, full disclosure, I had an ivy plant before (diff. Type) and for lack of better words I murdered it. (I switched bedrooms in my house and it got left behind in a dark room for weeks, I tried to save it, for it was kind of alive, but my efforts were in vain). I wasn't gonna get another one for a while because I had a lot going on then, however, I couldn't walk away. Not to mention it is also the type I had originally wanted but couldn't find when I had got the other one.
Anyway the reason I think it may possibly be my familiar is, I was trying to meditate for the first time in a while and I just felt the need to hold it. Like that's not happened before and idk, like I haven't so much as thought about familiars since the very beginning of starting witchcraft and all of a sudden it's all I can think about when I look at this plant.
I tried looking online but everyone seems to have a different opinion on what a familiar is. Some say it's a physical body being that guides you, some say it's either a physical body being or a spirit that you make a contract with, some say it has to be a spirit (like the spirit of a fox or deer), some other people say it has to choose you, while others say you can choose whatever you want. My general senses of all that is its a bodied spirit (like a spirit that can have a body, like the spirit of a deer that can take body of a deer) that you can either form a contract with or just feel a connection with that is there to guide you in some sort of way. Personally I'd like to add that the relationship should be mutual, like you should give to them as much as they give to you.
I simi-sort of have and animalistic world view, I think every living thing has a spirit, but I've yet to see a single person say anything about a plant familiar, however each journey is different so like, idk. So I fully believe plants have spirits and it makes sense to me as to why my familiar could be a plant. For one I've always loved nature and every time I'm in it, it just feels home. Like no matter where it is, I feels like I belong there, I long for it. It also has a tranquil effect I don't seem to be able to find anywhere else. Hot days, cold days, it doesn't matter, they each have different effects. Like on hot days it's when you sit down for a break and everything, the air around, the sound of the birds and bugs, just all of a sudden surround you and it feel like a hug and I can just relax, it's like the only time I feel that light. Not to mention the amazement I have of it all, like there's so much at play in even a little area, its truly incredible.
My point here is I associate the feeling I get out in nature with plants, especially vineing plants (for what reason, idk) and it makes sense to me that where I feel the biggest connection to should be represented (?) in my familiar. So like maybe my familiar is a plant??
Damn this got long

10 Simple Ways to Worship Mother Nature
These could apply to any earthly god or goddess really, so feel free to borrow any ideas that speak to you! And please tell me about how you worship your deity, I'd love to know 💚🪲
Going for daily, mindful walks. Sometimes I'll listen to music, other times I'll just listen to the world around me.
Wear a lot of greens and browns, as well as recycled and more sustainable fabrics (a lot of my clothes are also thrifted, and I try to avoid overconsumption)
Decorate my space with earthy colours, posters and pieces of the earth - I have crystals, bones, pressed flowers and even rocks and twigs in my room
Learn about nature and the world around me - I am a zoology student so my academic career is also a devotion to Mother Nature but I also learn about what animals I can see locally, I study when and where flowers bloom and how to tell when rain is coming etc
Reconnect with my more primal side - a significant part of my work with Mother Nature is reognising and accepting that humans are animals, and we behave as such; we cannot allow ourselves to become seperate from wilderness. To me, this involves connecting with my intuition and gut feelings, recognising my emotions and desires and working with them
Making and wearing daisy chains or flower crowns
Creating art inspired by the world around me and myself
Caring for animals (that includes other humans) when I can and it's safe: from helping a snail move across the path, to making sure a dying bird can rest peacefully, to giving food and money to the homeless
Loving myself, though it isn't always easy
Spending time outside with my hands in the dirt or streams, speaking with the trees and birds and listening to their replies

Guys I need yall to know that you don't have to practice every day, give an offering every day, do a devotional act every day, research every day, and/or WHATEVER IT IS that you do every day. I promise. You'll be okay.
I talk to Apollon like maybe three times a week. It's NORMAL for your deities to not come around every single day. And if they are coming around every single day, please vet them. I'm so serious. Vetting is so important.
When I was younger, I was settled on the fact that if I didn't do everything all at once at every possible moment I could, then I would be a failure and all of my deities would leave me. But they didn't. When I realized I didn't need to be so (for lack of a better word) dependent on them, my relationships with them actually got stronger. Apollon has been around for eight fucking years yall. I can't get rid of him (/hj).
My point is, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Deity work and deity worship isn't meant to be scary or anxiety provoking or overwhelming, at least not all the time. When you talk to your deities, you shouldn't feel like you're going to fail them. Because you're not. You're not. I promise you.

Quick motivation spell
Needed some motivation to get my room cleaned today so I made a quick motivation spell. I made a sigil with the words "I have motivation" tho I'm realizing now I misspelled motivation, but it still worked so oh well. I then wrote that sigil on handmade paper I had made a while ago, placed it in a dish used some yellow watercolor paint and some golden rod flowers I collected last spring, the water basically dissolved the paper as I mixed it up, I then rolled it into a ball and dumped some yellow wax on it, all while saying over and over again in my head "I have motivation" and "I have motivation to clean my room". It worked almost instantly, didn't last to long tho, but it gave me the kick I needed to get started. Later I ended up dumping more wax on it to see if it'd like recharge it and what do ya know, it did. Feel free to steal this whenever you just need a little motivation to get you going, not sure why it didn't really last tho, I'll have to figure that out later.

Breakfast with Loki
This was the first time I've ever done something like this. I'm mideocrely new to diety work/worship(?)(idk what to even call it at this point, just diety relationship)(by mideorcorely new I mean I've been very, very slowly building a relationship with just Loki, thus far) anyway, as I was making breakfast this morning I felt Loki's presence with me while I was singing, dancing and cooking. I decided, "hell why not" and invited him to breakfast and made him some mini pancakes and shared strawberry milk. It was very enjoyable, minus the fact the pancakes were degusting, like I don't know how you fuck up simple pancakes, but hollyfuck I did. I learned Loki has table manners (I don't know how to put that in a way that doesn't sound rude, but I don't mean it in a rude way) what I mean by that is he Made me get a coaster for my mug, I gave him a coaster for his mug but couldn't find another so I was going to go without one. Yea, no. Unexpectedly, I just feel his glare (it's almost like a disapproving father when you exhibit poor table manner skills infront of your very proper grandmother, but also the grandmother looking at you, and just being like "this child"), so I went and got a paper towel to fold into a make shift coaster. I don't really know how else to describe it other than pleasant, his energy is so warm, like a fire on a cold night, or when you walk outside from a cold house on a warm summer day. After breakfast I had planned to clean the kitchen but I ended up in a recliner asleep, I hadn't slept well the night before, so I guess Loki decided I needed a nap, cause I swear to you it felt like I was being put to sleep like a child. I don't mind tho, the nap was nice, longer than I had wanted it to be, but nice, and warm.
