(this was originally gonna be posted on the *flips to other tab* Right Hand Man OSP Trope Talk episode where she briefly mentions the dragon, which is there I remembered this thing I was searching for some time ago)

Something that has always interested me is a story told from the POV of the lancer. The leader can be a chosen one or whatever, but its the best friend telling the story. Because of this, i went looking for the name of the role that directly opposes the lancer specifically, but when i went looking i only came upon the dragon. It seems to fit! …. For about 2 seconds. By then, i realized it wasn't exactly a protag-antag relationship, more of a lancer-leader relationship but Bad Guys™ causing the sidekicks to duke it out since the hero and villain are busy with their fighting and sexual tension /j

I'm still looking for that. Ik that given the fact that our lancer is now our protag, meaning they're now in a protag-antag relationship in the eyes of the viewer/reader, but i really want to play with the tropes that exist for those roles, and i cant play with a role i cant find examples of.

In this way, I'm not looking for a foil. I'm not looking for someone who causes the lancer to see themself when they stare into the void (that is the lancer's antag). Im looking for the role that, in the structure of the story, typically goes toe-to-toe with the lancer role specifically. Like, if each role of the 5 man band had their own villainous role specifically for them, who would the villain for the Lancer be and what are the tropes of that?

Apparently in China peach wood (Along with the rest of the plant) is believed to have properties that repel evil spirits, a little similar to silver in European legends or iron for both European fae and West Asian/Middle eastern Jinn. Taoists sometimes keep swords made of peach wood because of this. This made me realize something. If you took a peach wood stick, and attached studs to it of both silver and iron you'd end up with a club or staff (or mace, flail etc.) that would have the weaknesses of many kinds of supernatural creatures while still retaining effectiveness as a normal weapon (peach is a hardwood and silver's poor edge retention doesn't matter for studs). You could even keep adding new stud materials to get something ridiculous that affects over 120 catalogued folkloric monsters. Since you just need a few little studs you could even get some really expensive materials like meteoric iron (a thumb tip sized meteorite can still cost like 10-20 bucks I think). I could somewhat feasibly make a weapon that affects every monster ever thought to walk the earth, from vampires and werewolves to jinn and jiangshi and even mankind.

At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.

Imagine the anxiety of Shadow remembering that there aren't save points after the final boss (whatever that final boss happens to be) and so, despite being quite used to dying bc of the save points, he now realizes 'shiiiiiit, I don't wanna fight that fucker again-'

do you think you'll play with the idea of multiple routes or have one canon route based on what shadow would most likely do?

Depends on what counts as a route... I actually JUST finished the outline for the story I want to make with Shadowtale, def more of a retelling of Undertale but I plop Shadow in there instead of Frisk and see what all hell breaks lose because of it I CAN SAY THO that the concept of save points is too tasty for me to NOT use in the AU :]

leitmotifs never get old to me like holy shit dude there’s this melody that corresponds to this one guy and if you hear the melody it means the guy is there. holy shit. and sometimes it refers to ideas too not just guys. has anyone heard about this

of the problems i have with TSATS, one of the sillier ones is... those star wars opinions are so bad. Will is supposed to be a huge star wars nerd but they're discussing it like they all only have the most cursory knowledge of the franchise. i'm not even into star wars but I cannot accept this.

funniest and more sensible options would be:

Will's favorite character is someone intensely obscure, like Karre or someone like that, and he will psychoanalyze and critique you on whatever your answer is to which Star Wars character you think is hottest. This information is SO important to him.

Kayla's is Kylo Ren because she's basic as hell (she knows this and is fine with it, she thinks it's funny) but also because Will hates that answer SO much and she thrives on tormenting her brother. He keeps begging her to pick literally anyone else.

Austin insists his favorite character is Weird Al Yankovic in his The Saga Begins music video and that it Totally Counts As Canon Trust Me. Will tentatively concedes on that one.

Inspired by him, Kayla's secondary answer is literally anyone from Spaceballs. Will also tentatively concedes on that one, because it is funny.

Nico's should be either Kylo Ren, because he's only slowly learning about the franchise through osmosis and appreciates Kylo's edgy aesthetic (and Kayla is encouraging it cause the answer annoys Will), or specifically Anakin to continue the jokes about Nico having a type.

Bonus points if Will is making him watch the franchise in canonical chronological order because Nico is one of the few people who doesn't know about Darth Vader, so Nico is just genuinely like "Yeah no I love Anakin's vibes he's cool :)" and it is taking ALL of Will's self-restraint to not spoil it for him.

Reading through these, it made me think of one or the Egg Memos (quick note, have not finished Frontiers just yet but I figured might as well-)

Currently on Ares Island and took straight to the internet to see if anyone else was surprised to see another Master Emerald esk thing! (Spoilers, people weren't) the fact that Knuckles said the bunker/ruins looked like the stuff on Angel Island AND there's an off-color Master Emerald inside, that's too much of a coincidence, I'd think.

Additionally, I decided earlier today to do a Big Fishing spree (ba dum ching?) and decided to prioritize the Egg Memos. They eventually sold out so I listened to them.

The fact that Eggman found out that the ancients are related to Chaos, it's really cool. But, and this is probably just me, I was always under the impression that Chaos was a powered up Chao.

So not only are there Chaos Emeralds that, prior to Frontiers, I didn't know had a similar origin to actual Chaos but it could also explain why the Chaos were on Angel Island? Did some of the ancients become the Koko and others, the Chao?

just to restate this, I still haven't finished Frontiers, as much as I hate to say it, lol.

Did y’all not loose your shit seeing this?? In the scene after the towers, the cutscene literally pans in on this broken gem (emerald??) stone?—and then the story just never addresses it. 0_o I thought for sure we were about to get new Emerald lore right then and there. And then we didn’t. My first though was that it would be a sister to the Master Emerald. Not sure that is the case, but like… what is it??? Why did they show us and then not talk about it. It has patterning like the black stone around the islands. But at first glance it reminded me of one of the blackened chaos emeralds from Unleashed.

I mean LOOK at that first screenshot from the cutscene. That looks Master Emerald sized, and shaped right?? The other angels look less defined, but still…. Whatever this shattered rock/gem was, it looks like it was important. It’s on a pedestal. Inside of a bunker (that honestly looks like a temple) which, per Knuckles’ observation has architectural connections back to Angel Island.

Seriously what is going on here? The way they panned in on this image was SO intentional. ALSO the Ancients’ symbol is there. We still know next to nothing about it’s meaning, right. Will THIS be DLC related? There were a lot of little moments like this, especially in Knuckles’ story where it seemed like there should/could have been more to the story. Could all this just be part of the future Frontiers road map? I remember sometime during development Iizuku said something like that Frontiers would be a new approach that would reach through the next era of games. Is this just the beginning of years worth of new lore?

So yeah! This was made as a reference for my friend to draw my character; a changeling artificer I had long since lost the name of.

Coincidentally, I found the references after I had finished making this and I found out my brain fused TWO previous characters into one! Lol
