Just remember this idea I had for a fic where Steve’s dad worked in marketing and made jiggles for commercials so they had a full music studio in their house.
The local music store had a section where local artists can sell cassettes. It’s mostly poorly recorded country music from The Hideout’s open mic night, but Corroded Coffin is there too. Eddie practically stalks the shelf to see if anyone buys their music. No one ever does (except for Gareth’s mom).
Then one day, Eddie goes into the shop after work to see if any of CC’s stock is gone, and sees a new tape there. No artist name. No song titles. Just a slip of paper stuck into the case with a hand drawn rose on it.
Eddie buys it and even though it’s not his typical type of music, falls absolutely in love with the voice on the tape. He loves the music. The production quality. The way sadness seeps into every corner of side A and B.
He goes back to the record shop and asks who left the tape, but the employee has no idea. They think someone just stuck it there without permission and have no idea who they’re supposed to pay for the sale.
Two more tapes show up over the next month with a different drawn flower on it, each sadder than the last. The artist is clearly going through something. Eddie still has no idea who they are and is now stalking the shelf not just to see if his own music is selling (it’s not).
He’s in full investigation mode and it’s annoying all of his friends. He needs to know who this person is because he’s a little in love with them and also a little worried about them. It’s really sad music.
Meanwhile, Steve is just trying to process the end of his relationship with Nancy in the only way he can think of.

maybe Steve likes Dungeons & Dragons
I have an unfinished 20k+-word Steddie one shot sitting in my drafts from two years ago that I never touched since then because, well, it has an Original Character inserted in it and she's prominent in the story for the two to get together. I didn't know if people would be interested and I didn't get enough time to finish writing it. Maybe I got a little too into making their character sheets as well.
Anyway. Here's a rundown of the plot. Let me know if it's something you'd one day want to read.
It's a Steddie classic: It happens post-Vecna, in an Everyone Lives canon divergence, where they're focusing on high school life and playing Dungeons & Dragons. He grew closer with Eddie, having been one of the only dudes of his age group that understands him. Plus, the guy needs some company after what the town put him through. Didn't do any good to his damn thoughts though.
Steve's having a crisis, both sexually and life-wise, and is going on a bit of soul-searching. He ends up at a 24/7 diner a few minutes out of town, meets this girl working there as a waitress who happens to be an old classmate that never got out of Hawkins after graduation. He finds out she's a nerd, knew Eddie, and had a few inspirational things to say about life. She understood his feelings of not knowing where to place himself; of losing purpose and trying to find that for himself.
Robin is busy grabbing her diploma and preparing for college, and so it leaves him with this other girl who has no interest in him romantically and yet indulges his inner thoughts. They become close friends and she introduces him to D&D with a group of other folks his age that she usually plays with.
He has fun. He understands the joy of playing it and, for the first time, his brain is stimulated in a way that does not require a physical-type of adrenaline. He's using his brain to actively get out of situations, and he learns that what wit he has and the massive charm he already possesses was incredibly useful in a fictional setting. A bonus was getting to flirt with every waking being without punishment. In some ways, it was an exploration.
D&D isn't so bad. But he hasn't told Dustin or Eddie or Robin or any of the others. For once, he is doing something parallel to them that he is enjoying for himself. And not because they asked him to do it with them.
One day, it all comes out. She leaves a set of dice in his car when he took her back to her place after a six-hour session. Steve is hanging out with Eddie, the rest of the older teens, and The Party at a park when she suddenly shows up asking for her dice. They learn he's been "cheating" on them, playing as a paladin for a few months in someone else's campaign. They didn't know that he understood every single ability check and attack roll they've been throwing on the damn table since some time ago.
They rope him into playing a game as payment for his betrayal. But he's too shy, even with the encouragement of Eddie, because roleplay was different when the man he's been eyeing is the Dungeon Master himself. So, he refuses.
Dustin tracks her down. He invites her for a game as a guest player. She accepts, only with the condition of having Steve there to play with her.
Forced, Steve ends up at the table with a joint character sheet with her. They're playing a Victorian-esque, Gomez-and-Morticia, couple named Lord Alistair and Lady Freya Crowsong. He's a Warlock and she's a Wizard (that was secretly his patron). I'm using D&D 5E rules, just because it'd be entertaining and it's fanfiction lol. They roleplay it as a fancy couple devoted to one another in ways that are less romantic and more codependent for survival. The Party are entranced by the narrative which don't happen as hugely for them as most of their games were combat-focused. They wanted to know everything. They also thought that it works because Steve was dating her. He wasn't.
Steve is having fun teasing them. He's not quite sure yet what Eddie thinks, but he's kept a smile on his face and that's enough for him.
Here's the big event. Eddie and the new girl mention a LARP/RenFaire event happening a couple of hours away out of Hawkins. They explain what it is, and show photographs where they can of them meeting folks in various costumes. The kids want to go, as there's a huge Magistrate's Ball happening in one of the big farmhouses it's being hosted. They want to interact with other people using their characters and, specifically, Dustin wants to See Steve as Lord Alistair Crowsong.
He feels a little embarrassed. He says a flat-out no before the girl tries to bribe him to do it. That doesn't work either. Finally, Eddie says he'll show up in costume as Steve's favorite NPC--a handsome young bard that Lord Alistair met at a tavern named Elisor. He was Steve's favorite to flirt with, and most of his romantic intentions for Eddie was directed through this NPC.
He flashbacks to the description of the bard, imagines Eddie wearing the same outfit, and suddenly he said yes.
A month goes by and they're all ready to go. Their costumes are packed, as well as their gear, and Steve, Eddie, and Nancy are ready to ride out to a different city to let the kids experience a whole other breadth of nerdiness.
They have fun. The kids learn what it's like being around people like them, and they get to do different kinds of activities while in character. They watch bard concerts, play farm games, and even watch a bunch of fights at the makeshift coliseum. Steve, for the first two days, isn't Lord Alistair. He's his paladin character because it was easier for him to be someone similar to himself for an entire day.
The last night at the faire, the Magistrate's Ball happens. The kids and other people go first because Steve was strapped to his chair and forcefully had makeup put onto his face. They arrive some minutes late, but he's in his hand-sewn Victorian suit with a makeshift crow-headed cane and his fictional wife at his arm.
He's practically red on the face, if not the pale powder that she put on him, as he interacts with people in that same regal tone he usually speaks in as Lord Alistair. People flock them, asking questions about their "kingdom" and their fictional dead child. The Party swarms them eventually, teasing but mostly in awe, as the two of them kept their airs around everyone.
Then, the crowd parts way. Steve tunnel-visions when he spots Eddie by the punch bowl with a lute in his arms and a goblet at hand. He has his chest out in a white tunic and an open deep purple vest, smirking at a random ball-goer and talking. When their eyes meet, everything falls silent and suddenly, Steve forgets to breathe.
New girl pushes him to his direction, in the guise of "get your wife a drink" before disappearing into the crowd to find Robin.
Then, we switch to Eddie's POV. Who is not only smitten, but he's been glowing with jealousy since he found out he wasn't Steve's first Dungeon Master.

I think Steve just isn't aware that to a lot of people, Eddie is intimidating and unsettling. Like, he's shown to be easily agitated and highly defensive when they first introduce him in the show and he's kind of a dick to the kids (especially Lucas) and has a lot of strong opinions he's not afraid to voice. Mix it up with the chain, the leather, the tattoos, and the purposefully flippant attitude and I can see why a lot of people would be scared and/or put off by Eddie.
Of course, we know, and Steve knows, that Eddie would never actually hurt a fly. He's got a big heart and yes, big feelings, and the biggest doe eyes and once he warms up to Steve in the upsidedown he's like an excitable little dog. He wants to go on walks with Steve and sit in Steve's lap and adorn him with kisses and yes, ok, he does bite from time to time but it's always with love. Eddie can be bitchy, but then so can Steve and he thinks it's funny and it almost never crosses the line from funny to cruel, especially not if it's about Steve directly. When he crosses the line, Eddie is quick to apologize once he realizes.
Little does Steve realize that that kind of behavior is almost exclusively relegated to Steve. When Eddie is with others he's just as territorial and aggressive as he was in high school. The kids still get put through the absolute ringer during their sessions, the band still has to listen to his frustrated rants when things don't go how Eddie envisioned them in his mind, and god help anyone who looks at Steve or SteveandEddie wrong on the street. Eddie is ready to verbally eviscerate (or more likely, commit their face to memory and put peanut butter under the windshield wipers) anyone who makes Steve upset.

Can you imagine if in season 5 they just put Eddie's vest somewhere in the background of Steve's room? Tumblr would explode.

famous eddie and Just Some Guy steve where eddie's in the middle of nowhere and really craving mcdonald's so he goes to the local drive thru where steve works. and like steve recognises him but eddie's been having a very public Not Loving The Fame moment so steve spends the entire interaction arguing with himself in his head about 'act like this is just some guy' vs 'this is your little brothers favourite artist legally you have to say something'. and he caves right at the end and tells eddie how much dustin loves him
and eddie's like. sigh. ok so you want a picture. and steve's like oh no they don't let us have our phones while we're on shift so no one will ever believe me if i say i met you lol. and this throws eddie off so hard he ends up taking a photo on his own phone and asking for steve's twitter or insta or something so he can send him the photo and then spends the next solid 24 hours liking every post steve has ever put on anything and fans are sitting there like what even is happening rn

hc that steve actually likes metal and listens to it regularly, just always pretty quietly. so when eddie, who never has his stereo turned down to anything below 40 and even that's too quiet sometimes, gets in steve's car one day to hear metallica playing through the speakers with the volume only set to like 7, he's immediately torn between being ecstatic that steve is listening to one of his favorite bands and outrage that he's not giving it the proper listening experience it deserves

Steve Harrington who doesn't die. No matter what, he'll wake up afterwards. He learned it young when he survived a car crash that killed his mom. And he struggles after her death, not knowing why he survived when she didn't. As he grows up, he can't relax and parties to try and be full of something lighter. But he drinks too much at one party and he doesn't have a good friend to rely on.
As time goes on, Steve dies by Billy and by the Russians. He doesn't really understand but he begins to accept it. But he also becomes more careless. Which is how Eddie finds him.
Eddie had been able to see ghosts since he almost died from his dad. The first ghost he ever sees is his mom and she passes on after getting to hug him goodbye one last time. After that Eddie sees the few elderly people who died at the end of their lives. And the people who died too early. He got stuck as the freak for all the times he's accidentally talked to someone who wasn't there.
He had talked with Benny who was worried about that young girl. Barb who was so mad about being left behind by her friend. But he hadn't seen Will Byers and it made sense when he was found eventually. But he did hear some things from the agents stuck at the middle school who looked torn apart. Eddie learned of the Upside Down earlier but promised Wayne he'd stay out of it.
Until he saw Steve sitting on the edge of the pool, looking at his body floating in the water. There was some blood swirling in the water and it made Eddie sick. But Steve just stared blankly at his own body before sighing and standing. He froze when Eddie locked eyes with him. He glanced at the pool than Eddie. "Hmm," he gave him a small smile and moved past him.
"Wait!" Eddie called afterwards and Steve paused, "aren't you, like, I don't know needing something? Most ghosts-"
"Oh," Steve chuckled, "this won't last much longer." He stated and walked away but before he even reached the door back into the party he blinked away. Eddie let out a scream when Steve's body spasmed and his head flung up out of the water. There was still blood on the side of his face but he was alive. Steve groaned as he pulled himself out of the pool. "See," his came out hoarse and Eddie was just so confused.

“My platonic soulmate, light of my life; say what you just said again.” Robin gasped, looking at Steve in a mix of confusion and awe. He shook his head, not understanding what she was on about.
“What? I just said was everyone finds people attractive despite gender. So I think a lot of men are hot and would date them if I wasn’t straight. It’s the same with you right?” Steve asked, running a hand through his hair. He didn’t understand her confusion, this was how everyone worked.
Robin put a fist to her mouth, looking like she was trying to hold a laugh. “No, babe. I don’t find men remotely attractive and I would never want to date one. Because I am a lesbian.”
“Well yes because you like girls! Just like I do. I don’t get the confusion here Robs.” He huffed, leaning back on the couch.
They had been having their weekly movie night and bitch fest when Steve had mentioned wanting to date one of the lead guys. He had then lamented how if only he was gay he could.
“So wait, don’t you think you might be gay if you wanna date a guy? Because I promise straight men do not want to date guys.” Robin pointed out, trying to understand.
“Because Robin, you know this! I like girls, boobies!! That makes me straight.” He nudged her, like she just wasn’t connecting the dots.
Robin sat up straighter to look at her best friend. She forgot sometimes with how cool he was with her that this is all new to him. “Steve, have you ever heard of bisexuality? It means you like both men and woman and people that don’t identify as either.” She asked quietly, putting her hand on top of his. He looked at her, eyes wide.
“That’s an actual thing?? Wait I’m not straight then? Not everyone feels like this?” Steve’s brain was racing with all the new possibilities and how silly he had been. Robin shook her head.
“Wait. Holy shit. Robin, I wanna date Eddie. I want to date him so hard, I wanna kiss him. And marry him! Fuck wait that’s not legal. But all the other stuff.” He stood straight up, almost bowling Robin off the couch.
“I’ve gotta go! I got to tell him I’m not straight!” He yelled, grabbing his keys and running out the door. Robin sighed, getting comfy on his couch and drinking the rest of the wine in her glass. Leave it to him to speed run his sexuality crisis and get a partner before her. At least she could stop listening to Eddie whine over being in love with a straight man.

It's DAY 9 of STEDDIE ANGSTY AUGUST! @steddieangstyaugust Here's my contribution for the prompt - "Upsidedown." (Minor note - I'll be scaling back and doing one or two of these a week instead of daily because I need to focus on my Steddie Big Bang project coming this September!)
I’m also on IG - @tellme_astory86
Flipped Upsidedown
SUMMARY: When Steve and Eddie get separated from Robin and Nancy in the Upsidedown and chased by blood thirsty bats, they need to rely on each other to survive. For Eddie, the experience becomes a revelation. (Rated G - some blood mentioned).
Eddie props Steve up onto his shoulder, holding him by the waist as they jog side-by-side in the gritty floor of the Upsidedown and head for shelter. In the distance they can hear the shrilling of more bats as they make their descent. Eddie manages to get himself and Steve hidden under Skull Rock.
Steve winces as he crouches low. Eddie still has his arm wrapped around his waist and Steve’s grateful. He feels like he might fall over. He’s losing blood.
They watch as a whole flock of demobats roar overhead. Their ear-piercing shrieks vibrating around them. After the dust settles and it gets quiet Steve and Eddie stop holding their breath and the jock whines, holding onto his side.
“Steve.” Eddie breathes, looking down his bloodied friend. His face pinches with concern.
“It’s alright.” Steve pants. “I’m alright.”
“Bullshit.” Eddie says and takes his hand and helps him out from under the rock. Steve sways on his feet.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa man.” Eddie grabs onto Steve’s waist and props him against the large rock. He surveys the damage. Steve’s skin is ripped and clawed in painful and bloody angles. The worst wound sits just above his left hip.
“Okay, okay.” Eddie works quickly, taking off his jacket and yanking off his Hellfire shirt. He folds it lengthwise and wraps it around Steve’s waist gently.
Steve watches him closely, a little awestruck that the metal head who he thought just a few days might actual be a dangerous threat and a total freak was making his heart flutter a bit.
“This might hurt a bit.” Eddie looks up at him and Steve is little mesmerized by his eyes. Shit, he really was losing too much blood.
Steve blinks out of his haze and nods down at Eddie and he tightens the bind. Steve tilts his head up and gasps from the searing pain that shoots down his spine.
Eddie grimaces. “I’m sorry.”
Steve shakes his head tightly. “S’okay.”
Eddie stands up slowly, eyeing Steve with concern. Their eyes linger before Eddie steps back, giving his friend some space.
“Where’d Robin and Nancy go?” Steve winces, pulling himself up straighter.
“That way.” Eddie nods toward the east. “But I lost sight of them.”
Steve nods, swallowing thickly.
Eddie trails his gaze across Steve’s bare chest and crouches to pick up his leather jacket, pulling off the attached jean vest and handing it to the jock.
“For your modesty man.” The metal head mumbles.
“Thanks.” Steve takes it and does his best to shrug it on and Eddie helps him. He steps back and looks him over as he slides on his own leatherjacket.
“You know, Henderson said you were a badass.” Eddie smirks.
“Really? Henderson said that?” Steve looks at him curiously.
“Oh shit. Yeah.” Eddie grins. “Insisted on the matter in fact.”
Steve snorts softly and smiles and it fills Eddie with a certain joyful curiosity.
They start to walk slowly out of the grove and head east. Eddie walks close to Steve, making sure he’s able to walk without any help and marvels at how mentally strong and steadfast Steve is.
Steve glances over and Eddie turns his head quickly.
Without warning another nerve wrecking screeching drops from the trees above their heads. Eddie startles and grabs onto Steve’s arm.
“Goddamn it!” Steve shouts. “Run!”
They take off running, aiming for a thicket of trees to their north. Steve stumbles, still weak from the blood loss when Eddie grabs him by his side and pulls him up.
“Come on Steve!” Eddie pants, pulling Steve along.
They limp together, coughing and sputtering, their eyes fixed on the thicket of trees when on of the bats swoops down and whips it’s tail across Eddie’s back, and he goes down hard.
“Eddie!!” Steve spins and sees his friend crawling backwards, the look of horror in his eyes. In an instant the tail wraps around Eddie’s throat and starts to choke him.
Steve dives in and tries to grab the bat to get him off Eddie.
Eddie holds the tail around his throat, struggling to get it to let go as he panics to get air in his lungs.
Steve descends, pulling the creature hard by the tail.
“Come on you son of a bitch!” Steve hollers at the creature.
Eddie bits down hard on the tail and the bat screeches so loud Eddie’s ears begin the ring. The bat releases its coil around his throat and tries to fly away, but Steve’s got his hands locked around it. It screams and squirms in the air.
Eddie crawls backwards until his back hits something hard behind him.
He watches as Steve slams the bat into the ground, once then twice. When it doesn’t die Steve bites down hard on its tail, ripping its flesh and whacks it into the ground like it’s a massive hammer. With blood dripping from his mouth Steve stomps his foot onto its body. It squirms and screeches under him. In one swift and grotesque move Steve rips the bat in half and tosses it behind him.
Everything goes quiet.
Eddie’s eyes are big brown glistening globes in the dim light. He can’t take his eyes off Steve. Eddie’s seen a lot of things. Listened to a lot of heavy metal. Created some intense D&D campaigns.
But none of it compared to what he just saw Steve Harrington do.
And he thinks he might love him.
END
