I swear to god if those men in the Ted Lasso writers room pull out a sense and sensibility themed plot.

The older more emotionally reserved leading lady who conceals her emotions but desperately wants love.

The younger hopeless romantic who wants to be swept off her feet.

The hopless romantic enters into an exciting world wind romance with a rich attractive partner who showers her with attention and gifts. Unfortunately, they have a public scandal which they had already done once before and they choose their reputation over our leading lady.

Eventually, the hopeless romantic realizes that the grumpy old man who’s been looking out for her and allows her to be herself while grounding her is the one for her and they end up happily together.
Back to our other leading lady.

She ends up with the kind man who does not appear to be agreat romantic lead but boasts a quiet intimacy that makes people attach to him, including a previous relationship that is still prominent in his life. Everyone notes how good of friends they are because no one suspects there could be anything but friendship - they continuly miss chances and hold emotions close to their chests. Both putting others needs before their own happiness. Our leading lady eventually lets her guard down and allows herself to express her emotions to him instead of keeping them to herself. They too end up happily together.

Squinting because is it the same guy in 1x04? But with different facial hair? Because I have THOUGHTS
All I know is the guy in 104 is Jason’s stand in and he has a moustache👀 but I don’t think he’s in any of these other scenes

As a Tedbecca shipper I didn’t like seeing her with someone else BUT what I think is that it wasn’t about the boat guy whose name we don’t even know. It was about REBECCA finding out what she deserves. He’s a metaphor of that, but the man himself is not important, I don’t think.
Thoughts?
I'm kinda sad they used so many good tropes on a guy that means nothing, but overall, I'm not all that concerned about that guy or what happened between him and Rebecca. I think the lesson of Amsterdam was that Rebecca is capable of being that soft, happy person. She never thought she was, not really. Rupert took that away. He made her believe she was only important or desirable or worthy if she was a very specific Rebecca, so she has stayed that Rebecca for a long time, without letting any vulnerability show.
Sometimes we need a reminder. Even if that reminder is nothing more than a good memory. Rebecca herself didn't want it to be more than that. She took the lesson and she kept walking. It wasn't meant to be anything more than that.
And if anything, I think it was all worth it for that LOOK Ted gives her at the end. I've always kinda figured this would develop in a "Rebecca figures it out first" kinda way, but we've now had two weeks in a row where I think Ted is ...he might be closer than Rebecca, to be honest. He's also the one seeing a therapist, so hey, he might get there first! It all kinda lines up with the notion that Tedbecca is going to be the "truth bomb" of their third meeting in Ted's office that we know for sure we're getting because if this show loves anything, it's circular narratives.

I’m not even sure if I’d prefer Ted and Rebecca as romantically involved or not, but thematically I am enjoying the continued vibe of them missing each other at points in their life…but in a way where if they had connected it would be a ‘right place wrong time’ sorta thing, and could ultimately have had more harm than good.
If Rebecca had gone to hang out with Ted in Amsterdam he wouldn’t have had his big tactics epiphany for the team. She wouldn’t have learned just to chill and be in the moment with Lovely Dutch Man. If Ted had been found by Rebecca during his breakdown at the Tottenham match he wouldn’t have encountered Doctor Sharon and probably wouldn’t have begun therapy. If Ted had showed up at the start of the funeral to support Rebecca she might not have felt emotionally vulnerable enough to open up to her mother (oh, but he shows up when needed!). Hell, even in a meta fashion their missed connections are important - Word of God said that Rebecca was the woman Ted was originally supposed to have a one-nighter with after the Everton match, and that could have really impacted their relationship in a negative way.
I dunno, just something about it reminds me of that Boy Meets World quote - “I do my thing and you do your thing. I am I and you are you. If in the end we end up together, it’s beautiful”. Neither Ted and Rebecca have been in the right place to have that sort of *~*connection scene*~* fandom have been wanting for them, but there does seem to be a building pattern forming. They’re not there yet. It wouldn’t have been the right time. Things may change.

Rebecca focusing on the green matchbook in 3x05 with complete tunnel vision while she's snacking on Ted's biscuits that he makes just for her and the biscuit box is right in front of the matchbook...Higgins talking about how psychics, even if they're phony, allow us to see things we otherwise wouldn't have seen...Rebecca isn't seeing what's right in front of her until she's confronted with it in the hallway...poetic cinema.

Episode issues aside and I had a few that was NOT subtle for Ted and Rebecca. I sighs it’s like the hallway was a metaphor they keep walking past each other not realizing what’s right there quite yet.
yes yes yes. i think this is true of the "signs" Rebecca keeps seeing everywhere, too. they could apply to others, and they have applied to others, but she's not seeing the full picture and seeing how all of them could only ever be about one person, just as ted is stuck on the relationships that don't work to the point that he can't focus on the one that could. they're both too caught up in their own personal drama to look up and see what's right in front of them.
honestly, in hindsight, s2 tedbecca, especially near the end, with all the missed opportunities for them to talk to each other, only makes sense storytelling-wise if you see it as... that wasn't the right time for them. but there's always another chance. except, if s3 is really the last season, well -- has to be now.
but back to the hallway, i think it's also the first time where they're not seeing what's right there, but they pause and for a second, kind of maybe do? or visualize the possibility, at least? and that's both confusing and scary so they both just walk and away and try to ignore it, but it's there now. they both saw it, at least momentarily. so it's way harder to avoid it now.
