same character over 17 years - new name, new face, but same character.

as always, i feel the true mark of my improvement isn't necessarily the end product but the process. the new one took around an hour; the old ones took easily three times that each and you see that i gave up on the middle one without finishing it. i've definitely learned to use my tools more effectively and to move with more confidence from the outset.

i absolutely could not make him look even remotely like i imagined him and although likeness is still probably the #1 thing i struggle with it's interesting how much my confidence sped the entire thing up

i have also found "my style" nowadays - and learned a lot of things as a person that make looking back on the original's backstory pretty terrible! lmao i am a different person myself after seventeen years - and feel like when i draw things now i am not fighting against myself.

several times in my life i have stopped drawing for months or even years; every time i've come back and neglected my fundamentals, or else i'd have more improvement than you see here. but i think i'm kinda living proof that even if you stop-and-start and even if you don't do anything but churn out self-indulgences, the improvement comes whether you mean for it to or not.
