In the very beginning stages of the setting sun was when Rein always paddled back. He had a pretty decent haul, today and needed to get these to his buyer before the shop closed up. He seemed to be in a pretty good mood now that he wasn't constantly stressed for his life.
When he heard a familiar voice as he pulled to the dock, he turned his head and a smile spread across his face. He tossed the fish hurriedly into the dock, tied up his boat, and rushed to give her a firm hug, lifting her up, "What the Hells are you doing here?" He spoke with a bounce to his voice, "You should've sent a letter. I would take a day off for you." He laughed.
@never-surrender
@reining-disaster \\ Aurelia
Running water and vampires weren't exactly the greatest mix in the world, and yet Aurelia was down by the docks now, gaze sweeping across each of the fishermen that hauled in their kills for the day... and when she finally caught sight of the one man in particular that she was hunting for, Aurelia felt a smile sweep across her features.
"Rein, hi!" she greets him warmly, approaching him with no true realization that she had been being followed by a cleric with intent on harm.

Rein shuffled on his feet for a moment and shook his head, "No need to wait to do it together." He pulled it out and smiled softly, a hint of nervousness written on his face as held his breath. He shakily took his own present that was offered. Rein had gotten the other a knife engraved with his own name on it and he wondered again if it was the right decision.
"I... Found it while we were out and had it customized later. I don't know if it's your style, but the gem on the end reminded me of your eye." He blushed a little deeper, averting his gaze out of instinct.
@crimesought
Rein's face turned red, his ears angled slightly down, "No! Wait! I-... I-I for you something!" He hopped up and held out his arms, lips tight in a line as he looked off to the side, "I-... I've never given a gift like this... I wanted you to feel special, but I'm nervous about doing it... Wrong?" He admitted, "Here..." He laughed a little, "Have this. I-... I bought it for you." He bit his lower lip before his eyes fell back to Cassian.
Rein's eyes fell to the present Cassian got for him and he looked a little confused, "That's... Are... You sure?" He asked, "I uh... Thank you." He wasn't sure what to say. Should he hug him? Should he... Bow? What was the right response?

"You act as though carrying you would be a difficult task." He retorted, "Or some sort of inconvenience. Carrying you would be like lifting a baby bird. You're small and I could carry all of you with very little effort, if someone with better balancing skills were to stack you all atop my shoulders."
Rein set down his empty bowl and made a show of acting like he was about to hug Astarion while covered in Gnolls blood. He chased the vampire for a short bit before letting him be and handed his bowl to Gale with a smile, "I smell disgusting, as well. I'll be bathing as well. I'll go get my soaps and we can head down together to that nearby lake."
He pulled a bag from his chest, grabbing his clothes and soaps before he moved to her bag and did the same, tying them around his belt loops and then walked over to lift her into his arms with a smile, "If you choose, I'll look away for as long as you need. Swear on my life." He assured.
@immortallaughter
(My hand slipped.) It was quiet. Night watch was seldom quiet. Beatrice set her jaw, trying not to become paranoid. She expected this sort of silence in Menzoberranzan, the city of the drow before the start of a house war...but not here; this was the heart of a forest. Not so much as a croak of a frog nor song of a cricket met her pointed ears. She hadn't given her concern much thought until she noticed Scratch was on alert now, sniffing the air uneasily. Something must be about, but what? Shifting from her post, the rogue moved to climb to a scouting position to perhaps qualm needless nerves if it happened to be a bear or something, only stopping at the voice of her newest companion, Rein. "I'm also afraid of ghosts but that's a little much isn't it?" With a soft tut, Beatrice began scaling silently up the old oak, just high enough to be a head taller than the shorter trees. On the branch just under her, she heard Rein join her in the tree, hanging upside down doing sit ups. It was new having company that wanted to spend time with her, but she strangely welcomed it. Nothing seemed amiss until some birds flew hastily from a nearby tree only a few yards away, how hadn't anything set them off before now? The only warning she heard was the snap of a twig within earshot and the pull of a bow string.
Catching the glint off the arrowhead in the moonlight and gauging the general direction it was aimed, the half-drow jumped from her perch, landing in a roll near Rein, as her daggers deflected a few gnarled looking arrows aimed at the barbarian's vitals before they could hit. A single cackled laugh turned into a chorus, one that sound like it was slowly surrounding the camp. "Gnolls? how didn't I smell-" Her question cut short as the skeletal form of a gnoll, a Witherling, sauntered into view, followed immediately by several gnoll hunters running in their direction. "Well, you weren't far off about ghosts!"
Rein was pretty happy to just spend time with her. Taking. Moving. He didn't really sleep much, so her company out a d a out was refreshing. He didn't have to spend the night alone.
It wasn't until her reaction where she blocked the death blow that he knew something was even up, "Nice save!" He flipped to the ground and landed on his feet, cracking his knuckles. He pulled the halberd from his back and moved it in front of himself in a defensive manner, "What brought them here!" He shouted, hopping to the side to avoid another arrow. Fucking Gnolls. He looked in the direction, but he didn't have very good dark vision. He had a little, but he wasn't exactly the person the call when there was a battle at night. Still. He stood with an wide stance. Waiting. Watching.
When the creatures came into view, he pulled a face, clearly disgusted, "That's... Not a ghost. More like a zombie. What the fuck are those?!" It was clear he wasn't well versed in the subject of the undead, "They look like Gnolls... If their fucking skin melted off. Like ugly werewolves."
Was he... Roasting these creatures?
"Yuck! Anyway we can fight these uggos while making sure I don't have to smell them?"
Yeah. He was roasting them.
As one of them howled, he winced at the sound, "Do we... Have a plan of attack or are we just winging it?" Rein was more close combat. His eyes began to glow red, waiting for an order before raging. Wanting to apply it before he lost his cognitive abilities.

"You might be cold, but I am abnormally warm. So... Maybe together we can make an even temperature. You can cool me. I can warm you. A good balance." He chuckled so very softly, "Shush. We already were. Withers gave me a very firm talking to about distractions and blah blah blah." Rein pulled him in close and took in his scent, again.
He mostly pulled him close to hide the blush on his cheeks at the kiss, "I don't really sing in front of people... You're comfortable. It's... Safe." He smiled softly, "Unfortunately, I don't know the words. I heard it as a child... A bard was playing it outside for change close to my home. He played it for a few hours for a week. By day three, I was humming with it. Then... He was gone. I'm afraid I don't know what it's called, but it sounded sad. It felt lonely... It helped to hum it alone."
Rein yawned a little as he stroked Astarion's hair, "Do you know any music? Play? Sing? I'd like to hear, if you can. If you could make music, you're a perfectionist. You'd be perfect." He seemed pretty sure of himself about this.
@notyourastarion
Rein kept his face there, just holding, just being so careful with his massive body against Astarion. He nodded at his question and took a deep breath, allowing it to flow from his mouth after a moment. He was aware that he was probably very warm against the other, breath even hotter. He hoped it was comforting and not off-putting.
His eyes closed and he stayed just like this. Silent. Rein wasn't often this silent. Or even this stoic. Normally his expressions and features were over the top, though his ears were as dramatic as always. Flattening in a way that made him look like he was going to melt, "You body is cool. It's nice." He said softly.
It was then that he did something for the elf that he had yet to do for anyone at camp. Even scratch he'd held, before. No. This really was just for Astarion as he began to softly hum, pulling. Hand out of the hug to gently stroke snow white hair. The song was deep, and slightly off, giving it a melancholic feel. His voice wasn't confident, but the tune never wavered. Whatever this song was, seemed to comfort him and he hoped it did the same for Astarion.
Rein placed a gentle kiss just under his ear. Nowhere else. Just the one. In the moonlight, the unspoken words were very loud. Astarion was his everything in this peaceful moment. For this brief time, the vampire was all he needed or wanted.

Rein absolutely did not take notice that the other had to look up. He was just happy he had someone to talk to after all that had happened, "Quillen. It's a nice name. Do you write?" He asked, clearly picking out the 'quill' part of his name. He tilted his head, attempting to have a gentle smile, but was still a little uncomfortable due to their new intruders.
"Mm...Finding a water source and making camp is how I'd go about it. Then building a a kindling for flames to surround some wood.. preferably in a pit so we don't see fire to the woods." He chuckled, "Mm... Then I could probably hunt something. But I don't really have a plan after that. All I really know how to do is... Survive. I don't have the first clue what to do about... Any of this." He admitted.
Rein picked up that something with Quillen was off, but it wasn't as though he could put his finger on it. He flattened his lips and looked him over with his mismatched eyes before finally deciding on the obvious, "Are... You okay? Sorry... I don't know you well, but we were just in a crash so... I suppose asking is polite, anyway." He squinted and pursed his tan lips, "I-I think? That's the polite thing, right? Either way. Are you okay?" He repeated, face softening.
He went to reach out his hand to set it on the other's shoulder, but stopped, "Can... I look you over? Just to make sure?" He was visibly worried, but not enough to touch without consent.
@liltaventures
Rein barely had time to respond, only able to watch the other as he approached. He was still trying to keep in his lunch, for the most part. He didn't seem afraid of the other, though. He just looked at him, gaze curious, head tilted, trying to stand and gather his bearings.
The sight of the instrument was a bit of a surprise, it made his head fall to the other side, the small healing settling in and giving him enough strength to finally keep it all down. He stretched his arms and felt the worse off areas, only to find that they were much better, "Thank you." He finally said, "My landing wasn't... What l'd call smooth, no. I was still in the uh... The... What's that thing? A pod? Is it a pod?" He groaned, "No... Yeah. I don't know basically any of what is going on. I was minding my own business in my own camp and then... was getting a creature shoved into my eye."
He approached the other, hesitating for a moment before extending his hand, "l'm Rein. I... Sorry getting close to you made our new worm friends connect. It wasn't my intention." His extended arm looked awkward in the way it might for someone never taught how to give a hand shake.
Rein looked over the town Quillen had just been looking at and then back to Quillen. He looked confused. He blinked a few times and then allowed his head to spin in a few directions as if checking to make sure there was no one else nearby. He slowly nodded with a light blush on his cheeks. Interacting wasn't exactly his strong suit and people were hard to navigate, "Yes... I-... I think that would work, but..." He pointed to his own chest, "M-Me? I'm not much, but I can help... Or try..." He puffed his cheeks and looked off to the side, clearly out of place, "Sorry... I've been in the woods... For a while..." He admitted. Rein shrugged and grinned awkwardly.

Rein was visibly taken aback at the sudden words of hostility. His stomach twisted as his eyes darted away, almost instinctively, "Sorry... I-... Just... You were just knocked out... So..." He sighed, deciding not to finish his sentence. His ears seemed to turn down a little. Rein's body language was very open, very honest. Not that he was aware that he looked any different, of course.
Rein turned back to Yanis at the words that escaped him. He tilted his head and then looked around, "I tried to see if any were alive. No heart beats and I'm not a healer, even if I found a faint one, I'm not sure what I'd do." He admitted as he allowed his own mismatched eyes to fall on the other at the question.
"Do? Hm..." Rein's body language changed faster than was typically expected, "I'm not really sure I had a plan. I want it out, for sure, but... Who is qualified? I don't know anyone, really. Kinda just assumed I'd... Continue to wander until it kills me. But maybe a plan wouldn't completely blow." He scratched his head, "A healer could be useful if we can find out where we are. There's so much carnage that I'm not sure if I'm familiar with this land or not..."
Rein looked to the distance. He saw a door. He saw some trees. Lots of land, beach, rocks. No real markers or indications, "Yeah. I don't have a fucking clue where we are." He put a hand tongue aching head and sighed. He felt like shit, really, "Fantastic." He didn't look hopeless, but he definitely looked perturbed. Maybe a tad ill, as well. Still. They needed to help themselves. No one was likely to come.
@liltaventures
As the feeling left his body, Rein took far longer to recover. His eyes were wide and he was breathing like he'd run a marathon. He tried to catch himself, bring himself back to the moment, clearly disoriented and quite a bit panicked, "Y-Yeah..." Was all he could get out, though it seems as though he had more on his mind he wanted to share. He shook his head, trying to get the feeling out.
When he finally looked to Yanis, his eyes and shoulders were more relaxed. His posture was hunched, but that was pretty typical, "That... Fucking sucked... Unpleasant seems too nice... Normally I'm all about being nice, but I gotta admit... I'm a little fucking mad. Yanked from the ground, thrown in a shop, worm in my head. I just... I saw you... And you're the only living person out here..." He pursed his lips and looked him over, gaze softening, "Sorry I startled you." He pointed to his head to show that he had seen Yanis' thoughts, as well.
When the other asked his name in such a way, Rein stiffened. He took a breath and shook his head, "I would... Prefer you not use that word to describe me. Elf. I... I don't have a strong connection to that part of myself." He tilted his head and crossed his legs, "But you can call me Rein, please." He offered a weak smile, leaning forward, curiously. It was as if the events film just moments ago had floated out of his brain, "And who are you?" He asked, "Follow up question, are you okay to walk? I'd very much like to leave this area..." He looked at the bloated corpse very near to him and groaned, "Yeah... I wanna leave. Shit, if you can't walk, I can carry you!"

Rein gulped at the touch. His ears wiggled, his heart picked up the pace. He let out a shaky breath, blush so bright on his face that his scar seemed to blend into it. He was at a loss for words for a moment, like his brain was trying to process the touch. It was clear that he wasn't exactly used to the feeling, yet, but it didn't look unwelcome. Eyes darted away out of habit, but that smile was still attached to his face.
"I'll keep that in mind, though... I've never assumed you were a prick. Just that you were guarded. That you'd been hurt. Of anyone knows what that's like." He took a breath and relaxed into the touch, "I have actually thought you were wondothis entire time, but I'm not sure if you'd believe me, or not." He then took the bottle from Astarion and took a swig of it, chuckling as he handed it back, "There. Better?" He stuck out his tongue a little, playful, calm.
"I don't know if this is going to get me drunk, but... I don't mind. Especially since I get to remember time spent with you." He smiled, "I hope... You don't feel as though I expect you to drink all that. I'd prefer you to remember our time together. But you don't have to, if that's easier." He assured, "I won't pressure you to do anything. I just..." He bent close to him and hooked his beefy arms under Astarion's more scrawny ones. he then pulled him close and buried his head in the vroom of Astarion's neck, "I want to be close... This is fine..." He nuzzled his face against him, "You are special, Stari." His voice was quiet, just for him.

Rein listened to Jesse. He was patient, calm, soft. The typical Rein, really. He also relented and allowed Jesse to wash his hair. Mostly because he knew his very cute boyfriend would get angry if he didn't, but for once, Jesse's words of affirmation stuck right where they were supposed to. He deserved to feel appreciated. It took a couple times for Rein to understand it, but he got there, humming softly as the soap began to wash the grime and muck from his gorgeous platinum hair.
"Jess. It's not an inconvenience to help you with your struggles and it's not an inconvenience to help your family. I don't adventure with you for ease and comfort. Though, it helps that you're so easy to talk to. But... No. I travel with you because I like doing it. Because I like you. I adore you. A little more than the others, actually. Don't get me wrong, they are all wonderful, but you are... I-..." It seemed like he was struggling a little with the wording, here.
"I very badly want to call what we have love. But nearly everyone else who has ever used that word with me has hurt me. I don't... Know what love is, but I hope it's what I feel for you, Jesse... You tell stories about your mom and I find myself enam-en... I really like them. You take care of me in ways no one else ever wanted to. You comfort me. Reassure me. And you are so very nice to hold close."
He sighed, "All this coming back around to say, I'll follow you to the ends of the Hells and back, if you are willing to do the same for me. I don't want to help just because you're asking for it. The guild is a problem for you and you're my family. So I'm helping. Period. I'll help you save your mom. If you insist my problems are important, then I'll do the same. Double edged sword, dear."
@caelumangeli
Jesse realized that was why he had been humming such a tune when he was resting against him in the wash. Why it would have sounded so melancholy of a tune. It wasn't hard to piece why those would have been his favourite knowing as much as he did. But hearing it didn't make him any less sad for Rein.
"I tried that when I was younger already.. Didn't work out.. Mostly cause my parents.. and it was really dirty and fat and it made this huge mess of the place while my dad came running in trying to shoo it outta the house after he heard how my mom sc re am ed at the sight of it." He shrugged. "They're... they're pretty dumb too. Not like a parrot- Parrots are super smart. There's totally a reason pirates and stuff got them on ships." He said rather surely but not elaborating on what exactly they were. He wasn't really sure after all, he just assumed with how smart they are.
Jesse was quiet a moment and looked at Rein's back before pouring warm water over his shoulders, watching dirty water from the ends of his hair run down his back. "My mom used to sing when my dad played piano and when they'd teach me.. I think it had something to do with how they met I'm sure. It took a while after he died for her to sing again.. but it also took me a while to play again... I could teach you how to read music if you teach me how to hit better." He offered in a trade of skills, though he probably would have for Rein anyways, even if he didn't want to help Jesse. "She still has his piano, it was the only really nice thing we until I started working. So I don't play a lot anymore unless I'm visiting her... She started getting it tuned and taken care of regularly even if It's been a while. " He was really glad Rein was facing the other way. He'd been trying his best to keep his composture though his voice at least, as once again his eyes were trying their best to dehydrate himself with tears. "There's no way she wouldn't like you. She's always loved, or at least been really good at pretending to, anyone I've introduced to her... It'd be genuine with you though. I know it." Jesse assured. It was helpful to talk about her like he hasn't been MIA for months, potentially leaving her to unknown dangers of The Black Watch if they decided to take action to one of their lackeys running off without a word. If he was lucky, they already somehow knew where he was and that it wasn't his fault and that he totally brought some really useful scrolls and magic items he'd slipped into his back behind his teammates backs in order to try to bribe their leader into not slaughtering his family infront of him again. "That'd be nice, to have you there. It's just.. whole reason I'm worried about her though.. I dunno how easy it'd be to try and seperate from the guild" He hated associating himself as a member, or saying it was a guild he was in. "- I didn't want to. It's not like I went out searching for a guild to join or found the wrong party to join.. I was just there when my father died and.. they took it at my initiation. I guess it's better than having joined him." It's not like he wanted to get Rein on his guilds radar or make him associate with them.. But he would be extremely useful.. and Jesse also felt like he of all people would probably be extremely safe against anyone.
He scooped water and poured it over Rein's hair as his head tilted back, scrubbing some of the residule grime from his hair with his fingers, before he started soaping his hair to properly cleanse him.
"I know you want to. But I'm sure that's pretty hard too... I don't really expect you to be okay just cause I'm here.. Just that.. I want to be here when you're not okay." As long as when he's not okay isn't like in the shadowlands back there... "And if I'm here still then I'll want to remind you even if you know. And that I wanna be on your side. I am on your side."
