Minecraft and MCYT flash fic writing challenge!

Inspired by KCS's 221B challenge, there are three formats to this writing challenge:

Shulker Box: a shulker box fic is exactly 1,728 words long, with a word for every item that can fit in an entirely-full shulker box. And as a reference to the way a shulker spins open, the first and last lines of the fic must mirror, repeat, or echo each other in some way.

Full Hotbar: a full-hotbar fic is only 576 words in the main body, one for a full hotbar full of 9 stacks of 64 items. However, it also can have an optional, 64-word, semi-disconnected prologue as your "offhand" slot -- consider this paragraph a stack of torches, lighting the reader's way for the rest of the fic.

Stack: a true micro-fic! A single stack of words: description, dialog-only, an internal monologue, a moment in time—a stack fic can be anything! But it can only be 64 words.

that’s honestly one of the things i can still love about fandom—the community aspect. i wrote something that inspired someone else to make art that someone else used as their design headcanon for a fic etc etc. it’s a big beautiful messy game of telephone, and yeah it leads to a lot of bad art but most of us are not in fandom to read or create james joyce in the first place.

It’s always confusing specifically for me when I see The Red Sun Never Sets because I always think of a book my middle school read called The Red Sun and that’s what comes to mind before anything else

Was it a Norse myth fantasy one about a kid who goes to rescue his friends from a world called Orkney? Because I have vague memories of this too. XD

TRSNS was one of the first fics I ever read in this fandom (and I entirely missed whatever drama came around it... I think it was just because people hadn't made the distinction between cMumbo and CC Oliver Brotherhood and thought the writer was writing whump about a real person? dunno. idc, honestly.)

But then there's also an older SMP called Redstoner and I always think that was the name of the fic. XD My AO3 search history is like "red stone sets fic" "redstone sun mumbo" "red sun fic mumbo jumbo" until I finally find it. XD

funny story, trsns WAS based on yourpalross redstoner…before i’d ever seen it. a forgotten part of trsns’ history is that it was based on someone else’s au and the first chapter of someone else’s fic. i credited them for a long time but lost track of them bc they changed their url at some point.

as for the drama, it was more about the fic being ableist for containing the ‘goes crazy and kills friends’ trope as well as poorly written disability, which i fully own up to as i was a high schooler writing my first ever fic. i think the rpf discourse in the hc fandom came later but i don’t remember super well.
