I'm worried a big problem in this movie is going to be its pop culture references. They're almost always aimed at an older audience and now that Gen Z are the older audience, DreamWorks gonna have a hard time finding their niche. What makes Gen Z laugh? And I'll give you a hint, it's not social media jokes. Past generations didn't grow up with Shrek existing their entire life, so they didn't already have it instilled into their pop culture. Shrek memes were the building blocks of Gen Z humor and pop culture, so unfortunately, I feel like this movie is gonna end up being a meta self-referential parody of a movie that was already meant to be a parody, with DreamWorks hoping that Gen Z is as susceptible to nostalgia-baiting as millennials are.
