Remember that if you want to do more of something, you have to do less of something else. It's that time of year where people set goals for the new year and they have plans and hopes and it's always focusing on what they want to do more of. More studying, more exercise, more crafting, more socialising, more making things from scratch. Okay, great. What are you going to do less of in order to have the time and energy to do more of those things you really want to do?

i don't actually give a fuck whether fatness is an indicator of health because health shouldn't indicate a moral high ground. being healthy isn't some pinnacle of human achievement, it's not morally superior. and being unhealthy isn't a moral failing and shouldn't mean you're less worthy of kindness, justice, and a good life. signed, a chronically ill person who will never be "healthy" at any weight.

Rewatching Fantasy High and remembering that one of my favorite things about Brennan as a DM is that he consistently rewards kindness. Show some empathy to that random werewolf? You get a trusted mentor. Save that kid who was just trying to kill you? Lifelong friend. Rescue your evil sister? Redemption and shared healing. The final fight of Starstruck is full of people who showed up to help because, at some point, a character chose to be kind when they didn't have to. Even in brutal universes, kindness is harder to give, but it's still possible and still pays off in material ways. I love it.

it's okay if your art isn't impressive to your friends, it's okay if you're not very good at any of your hobbies, it's okay if you don't share your life on social media. you don't have to be good and you don't have to prove anything. your life isn't a performance.

Shit goddamn apparently my blog is 9 years old as of a few days ago. It's not like I post hardly anything, but still. Time sure flies! And, come to think of it, it's thanks to Tumblr that I, a kid who my nose pressed to the glass window of the fandom bakery for years and years, finally learned how to engage with others in fandom. Making a friend on Tumblr turned into joining servers on discord turned into writing fic turned into show cancellation campaigns on twitter... and along the way, I have made friends who have changed my life so much for the better that I can barely recall the sad lonely yearning of the Before. So, thanks for everything, Tumblr. I will always be grateful.

stop worrying about whether or not queer identities "make sense". gender itself doesn't make sense. "woman" and "man" are arbitrary constellations of traits and features that don't reflect how people who fall into those genders actually think, feel and behave. the definitions we have for manhood and womanhood don't make sense, either. according to cisheteronormative society, feminine men and masculine women don't "make sense" either. the biological sex binary makes ABSOLUTELY no sense, with intersex people proving that it quite literally doesn't exist.

why do queer identities have to "make sense" in order for you to see them as valid? they shouldn't have to. let go and accept that identity is not a scientific theory. it doesn't have to "make sense". none of this does. stop running others' identities through such scrutiny and realize your identity doesn't "make sense", either. embrace it. it's a good thing.
