I want to watch The Summer I Turned Pretty, but I want to read the books first. I just need to know if the books are worth it because a part of me thinks I'm going to like them, but the other is kind of skeptical

I know I shouldn't care about likes and comments yet on my bookstagram since I am starting to be a bit more consistent with it, but it is kind of discouraging to post something and get one like, if I'm lucky.
I guess I just have to accept that this is what it is, and use it to vent and rant about whatever books I'm reading and such. Not caring if I look like I am talking to myself.

This was me when I finished reading The War of Lost Hearts trilogy by Carissa Broadbent
I hate it when I finish a great book and don't have a friend to talk to about it.

Is it really a romance book if there is no happily-ever-after ending?
Personally, I see the romance genre as something to read to make you feel hopeful. Something to make you believe that good things happen. Something to make you believe in love.
I read romance because I want to feel those butterflies in my stomach. Because even though there is drama or angst or things aren't looking good in the story, I want to believe that in the end, love does conquer all.
It's completely okay and understandable not to want to read a book with a happy ending, but maybe said book should fall under another genre, maybe chicklit? Or contemporary?
