xander had always been resourceful. his mother and role model, denise kwon ( widowed when he was just five years old ), stepped into both parent roles without hesitation and worked tirelessly to make ends meet — but she couldn't do it all on her own. xander,�� young as he was, could see the strain in their mother's eyes. even though they weren't sure how to do it yet, xander made a silent promise to ease their mother's struggles somehow.

xander was the picture-perfect son, eager to please his mother in any way he could. their weekdays were filled with extracurricular classes, achieving excellent grades that xander hoped one day would earn him a proper scholarship — while weekends were spent helping denise run the family business; a quaint little convenience store downstairs. but xander's need to contribute persisted – it wasn't enough … so he sought out unconventional means to make money.

at age fifteen, xander ventured into the underground world of street racing. it was a rough, dangerous world, but the adrenaline and the promise of quick money made it hard to resist. armed with quick reflexes and sharp intellect, they quickly gained a reputation as a skilled driver. multiple seasoned racers offered xander a spot in their crews, but xander never planned to stay in the racing scene for long. as the cash from the races increased, denise remained unaware of her child's illegal activities.

by the age of eighteen, xander had earned enough money to keep both them and their mother afloat, yet the lies began to eat away at them. after a particularly reckless race, xander sat his mother down one evening and revealed everything. he told her about the late-night races and the thrill of it that had fueled him on. denise was initially furious at him for leading a double life and for putting himself in the line of danger, but xander assured her that he had a plan. with xander's savings, the two could leave their life in waco and move to atlanta, where xander could pursue an education in engineering. it wasn't much, but it was something new — and that was all denise needed to hear.

life in atlanta was different. xander threw himself into studies — nights were now spent with his nose buried in textbooks and takeout dinners with their mother. xander doesn't mention anything about their life in texas to anyone, eager to let the past be past. one night, xander is invited to a rock concert by a friend. xander has never really been into music before, but it was something about the energy in the crowd that made them feel alive — the pounding drums and the unfiltered emotion of the electric guitars — it was exhilarating, and xander has never felt more alive. he found himself attending more shows, his connection to music growing stronger with every song.

while attending an exceptionally energetic performance, xander was approached by a talent scout who had heard about their interest in music and encouraged xander to try out for a k-pop group. at first, xander laughed him off — venturing into arts was the last thing they'd ever do. but, driven by his newfound passion for music, xander sent in an audition tape. to their surprise, xander was then chosen to be in the lineup of dysrupt, a bold new mixed-gender kpop group, known for their high energy anthems. the spotlight was suddenly on him and his bandmates, and it was nothing like xander had ever experienced before. the exposure to his talent was incredible.

but despite everything, xander couldn't help feel like something was missing. the music and performances were fun, but it didn't feel like his passion. the songs dysrupt were releasing were not the kind of music that xander wanted to make and that bothered them more than they cared to admit. on top of it all, there was also the chance of xander's past coming to light … and if their street racing activities were to be revealed to the public, it won't just put dysrupt's reputation at risk — but also jeopardize everything xander has worked so hard to achieve.

xander's quiet — but not because he's shy ! they just choose to speak when they want to, and when they do say something, it's guaranteed to be insightful and perceptive. has a sharp wit, paired with a sharp tongue that will put anyone disrespectful in their place. sarcasm is his coping mechanism and his way of flirting lol which may not be everyone's cup of tea. beneath the tough exterior, xander's a softie, but it will take a long time for them to open up to someone, which can come across as them being aloof. they're also super competitive, so rivalries tend to occur when they feel as though you're a worthy opponent.

feels more passionate about rock music than the music dysrupt is putting out currently, and that's also his secret. they're not sure what to do about this though, as he also feels like he's still figuring himself out. bought an electric guitar and is secretly teaching himself to play, experimenting with other genres to determine if rock is really the type of music he wants to make.

having their own car reminds him too much of their past life, so their mode of transport is a kawasaki ninja h2r !

sasha powell was the impetuous result between childhood sweethearts jeremy powell and olivia thomas. they'd barely graduated out of high school and had no support from either of their parents when olivia found out she was pregnant, but it didn't matter — the undeniable love between the two was all they needed.

growing up, all sasha knew was the care and adoration from her parents, sweetened by the marriage between jeremy and olivia that never faltered. although olivia never discouraged her daughter from pursuing her dreams, she always advised sasha to focus on her academics before anything else, wishing for her to fare better than she did in life.

sasha always knew that she had a passion for music from ever since she could remember, originating lyrics and melodies in her head and writing them down in a notebook known only to herself — but the fact that she was an only child weighed down on her shoulders. her parents' financial affairs only worsened as their debts piled up over the years, and sasha was determined to get them out of the situation.

at eighteen, sasha's world was rocked off her axis when she discovered that her maternal grandparents ( declared as deceased by her parents when sasha was a child ) were not only very much alive, but were also extremely wealthy. david and maya thomas were two influential figures in the entertainment industry, renowned for having a clean image as well as their old money values. the only stain on their reputation was their rebellious daughter — sasha's mother — who left twenty years ago, refusing to be the star that they wanted her to be.

desperate to save her family from financial ruin, sasha went behind her parents' back and reached out to her grandparents asking for support. david and maya agreed to help out, as long as sasha lived out the stardom-driven life they had planned out for her mother. sasha complied, and her life quickly fell into place soon after — she was able to provide for her family, save up for her education and follow her passion for music with harmonix on the sidelines.

but the burden of keeping a secret this massive took a toll on sasha. she felt betrayed by her parents for hiding the truth about her grandparents all these years — but she also deeply resented her grandparents for disgracing her mother and for never lending her family a hand. torn by the frustration, sasha immersed herself in her work. it was the only thing she knew to do, seeing as how working harder would appease her grandparents while also relieving her parents' endless debts.

when david used his lucrative contacts to put harmonix in the running of the competition at gravity records, more pressure fell on sasha. she's suddenly being pushed to the forefront as the lead vocalist of the group ( although the trio promised that their success would be a collective effort ) and her grandfather seemed to be the driving force of that decision ... even though sasha doesn't really want to admit it. as the spotlight grows brighter, sasha can feel the strain of it all — and she's not sure if she can handle it.

♡ ◞ personality.

sasha's sociable and articulate, with impeccable manners that could only be a result of a loving household growing up. she's also very empathetic and feels a lot: whatever a friend is feeling, you can bet she'll be feeling it too ! however, she can be a bit distant emotionally and tends to keep people at an arm's length, always choosing to keep things to herself. a bit of a workaholic because she believes succeeding in the competition is the most important thing for her currently.

music is quite literally sasha's everything — it's what she's passionate about, it's what she's doing now and what she wants to do for the rest of her life, and even her coping mechanism ( sometimes, to the extent that it's unhealthy ). that notebook she's had since little? yeah, she still has it in her possession now — and in it are some of the angstiest lyrics you'll ever see. sasha would never let those lyrics see the light of day though.

really, really book smart ! excelled in academics all her life. with her grades she could literally get any job in STEM, but it just so happens that the one thing she's most passionate about lies in arts.

a hopeless romantic. her parents' perfect marriage, standing strong despite all their challenges, has made her love romance so much. with everything that's going on though, sasha doesn't believe that she has time for a relationship at the moment.

is the mom friend. will take care of you, cook for you, listen to your rants without any complaints and she will be that designated driver when you need a night out !

very rarely has time to go horseback riding but sasha is an absolute horse girl. when she met david and maya or the first time ( a holiday in new york with friends turned into spontaneous meeting with them, because there's no way she would actually agree to meet those snobbish little shits ), she got lost in the stables and fell in love. she then spent more time on the field with the horses then she did actually getting to know her grandparents.

despite the issues she's had with them, sasha still cares about her parents deeply. they are what motivate her to keep going in the competition even when the pressure can seem too much at times.
