The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Page Count: 804
Rating: 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊
I think this was my first fantasy novel that can be considered high fantasy? So I was very intimidated by it at first but it was amazing. All the stories and characters seemed to weave together very nicely.
Ead was the best and I loved her strength and love for Sabran. Tane was a bamf at the end, love her and her dragon! I want to give Loth a hug, poor dude, and I miss him and Kit. Niclays was such an interesting character and I like what became of him at the end.
From 804 pages, I cannot pick just one good quote. Here are some of my favorites:
”You have not seen death, my lord. You have only seen the mask we put on it.”
”No woman should be made to fear that she was not enough.”
”You are my child. I forgave you all your sins on the first day of your life.”
”My mother always said it was beast to receive bad news in winter, when everything is already dark. So one can heal for spring.”
”My heart knows you song, as yours knows mine. I will always come back to you.”
”I would live alone for fifty years to have one day with you.”

Fence Vol. 2 & Vol. 3 by CS Pacat
Rating: 🤺🤺🤺🤺🤺
Loving the story! Sad that it will take a while for the paperbacks to be available. Again, if anybody knows where I can buy anything past Vol. 4 in paper, let me know??
Coach is awesome. I’m loving the competition between Nicholas and Seiji
But overall, I am intrigued between Aidan and Harvard’s story. Love those two.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Page Count: 250
Rating: 🌊🌊🌊
I think tiktok overhyped it, but still enjoyed the twist at the end! I loved it when those pieces fit together, like the emails and the illnesses.
Liked the kids tho, the lirs and the little cousins. Was confused by the plot tho, I mean I understand the ending but like… I don’t know.

Educated by Tara Westover
Page Count: 329
Rating: ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️
I had a lot of thoughts about my students, my experiences in education, my community, my family, and the world I have traveled so far. I can’t put down how much this book made me think because I was thinking about the author, the other characters, and her thoughts all day.
I’m looking for more recommendations like this, memoirs, travel and education expanding the world, books that really make you think.

Fence Vol. 1 By CS Pacat
Page Count: I don’t know
Rating: 🤺🤺🤺🤺🤺
If anyone knows where to buy the rest of the books? It doesn’t seem like I could find them easily online…. But it was my first “graphic novel”/Comic that I’ve read/read… Of the year? Ever? Loved it!
I really liked the set up of this so far, and I am excited to read more books by CS Pacat, I know that I’ve had some recommendations on my TBR shelf.
Awesome art! I love the characters and I really hope to find the next volume soon :)

Ok so new favorite author alert. I just ordered two more of Klune’s books. So funny omg.
Advice: DO NOT skip forward in the book or you will be spoilered. I wish I didn’t because I gasped in suprise like 10 chapters too early…

In Deeper Waters by F. T. Lukens
Page Count: 303
Rating: 🧜🏻🧜🏻🧜🏻
It was a cute story - retelling of the little mermaid. I liked that the royal family was so supportive of Tal’s choices and desires.
I didn’t like the colors of the hardcover without the jacket. Took a while to finish for some reason…
I don’t really have a quote from the book, but the picture features my new fish! Any good name suggestions?

I am such a sucker for happy endings, I loved August and fell in love with Jane! Loved all the representation and I think it was done really well.
Great music choices, I made so many little tabs about songs, love, and laugh moments! I INHALED this book.

Seemed like both of their motivations for the fake dating scheme was because of familial pressure. Some events happened recently that made me really appreciate knowing I have someone (my parents&grandma) in my corner.
They were a cute couple which made me sad that I am single whyyy🙃

Reached by Ally Condie
Page Count: 512
Rating: 🔴🔴🔴🔴
The whole book deals with the people trying to overcome a plague, similar to the covid pandemic, so it was interesting to read that mow that covid is hopefully drawing to a close(?). My state is lifting the mask mandate on the 12th and my students couldn’t be happier!
Overall it was better than the second book but still quite slow and confusing.
”writing, painting, singing – it cannot stop everything. Cannot haul death in its tracks. But perhaps it can make the pause between death’s footsteps sound and look and feel beautiful, can make the space of waiting a place where you can linger without as much fear. For we are all walking each other to our deaths, and the journey there between footsteps makes up our lives.”

I thought the ending was a little weird. But it was alright. I definitely liked the first book more.
Xander suprised me though, alright, I’m looking forward to hearing more of his story for once!

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I was hooked from the first page, loved all the music references, loved Karen and Camila.
I was studying for a big test while I read this book so I wasn’t super engaged until I took (and passed) the exam! But the ending was great! I loved the audiobook for this one, the cast did an amazing job!

🔅I vaguely remember reading or starting this in high school but i bought the rest of the series thinking I was going to put another trilogy on the shelf. One of my students said it was one of her favorite books, so I have someone to talk to!
🔅Even though it got overplayed, I like the cliche dystopian love triangle, and I heard a spoiler for the third book so I’m really excited to read that one!
🔅”It makes me think that perhaps these trips are harder than they seem and I realize that in seeing the missing tablet, I haven’t seen an example of her weakness but an example of her strength. What she’s dealing with is difficult enough to make her take the green tablet, so it also must be difficult to keep inside, to not share with us.”

It was ok, liked the ending:) like Jo was always looking out for Emma.
I have been very busy lately so I was not as engaged in this read as others unfortunately so I was kinda rushing through it.

I learned some new things that even I didn’t know! Appreciated having some tips for including nonbinary folks in a professional environment.
Loved the illustrations and the sequence of the chapters was great. Will have to share some quotes with some of my students who might appreciate hearing some passages!

Are you freaking kidding me please does anybody know if there will be more books of this universe? Should I read Throne of Glass/Crescent City next? I need MORE!
Ok I keep finding it a little weird that everything just wraps up nicely and no one dies and lives happily ever after like its ok but also a little bittersweet wouldn’t hurt anybody! But I love Nyx sm.
