Week 11: Engr. Carl announced the presentation of the Midterm PIT for SDE. This announcement prompted us to accelerate our efforts on both the front-end and back-end development of The Trailblazer Connect.
Recognizing the importance of the PIT and its percentage in our midterm grade, we quickly organized our tasks and set clear goals for the week. The front-end team focused on refining the user interface, ensuring that it worked well with the back-end. Meanwhile, I concentrated on the back-end development, working to ensure that the sign-up and log-in worked, and the data entered our database. I also worked on the error handling and validation processes to ensure a smooth user experience.
Later, we had our presentation, during which Engr. Carl provided valuable insights and offered us an opportunity to improve both our system and our grades. Engr. Carl highlighted areas where our system could be optimized and improved. With his feedback, we gained a clearer perspective on how to elevate our project, motivated by the chance to boost our grades and deliver a more polished product. In the end, we received a satisfactory (for us, because we didn't expect it, given our little progress) grade for both front-end and back-end.

Week 10!
During this week, we had our major examinations, including the Software Development Engineering (SDE) exam. I focused my studies on all the key concepts that were likely to appear on the exam, drawing from our previous discussions and quizzes throughout the term. I particularly concentrated on the identification, enumeration, analysis, and SUS-solving components that had been emphasized in our quizzes.
As midterm examination week came to an end, we finally had more time to focus on our system development. For the remainder of the week, I dedicated countless sleepless nights to developing the back-end portion of the system, following the not-really-complete-yet front-end work of my teammates. However, I encountered significant challenges with the database. I struggled to share access to the database with my teammates, which hindered our progress. As a result, we made a last-minute decision to switch to Firebase, which required us to ensure that our code was compatible with this new platform.

Midterms week!
Truthfully, the exam for Software Development Engineering (SDE) did not take place during this week. Instead, our focus was solely on the exams for our General Education courses, which required significant preparation and study time. As a result, we dedicated our efforts to reviewing the material and ensuring we were well-prepared for those assessments.
In addition to our exam preparations, I took advantage of the extra time we had to delve deeper into back-end programming. I spent hours researching, aiming to enhance my skills and contribute effectively to our project.
Meanwhile, my groupmates concentrated on the front-end development, focusing on creating The Trailblazer Connect, bringing the interface from Figma to life. We collaborated closely, sharing insights and progress updates, which helped us integrate our work seamlessly. By dividing our efforts in this way, we aimed to create a well-rounded system that not only functioned effectively but also provided a positive user experience.

Week 8.
For the eighth week, we had our second quiz for the midterms. The topic was Software Testing, which I had studied for the entire night. I was so disappointed in my efforts during the previous quiz that I vowed to myself that I was going to do better during this quiz. It was ironic that, during the quiz, the first five questions left my mind completely blank. This wasn’t due to a lack of preparation; rather, I experienced a mental block. Fortunately, I managed to recall some fragments of what I had studied the night before, allowing me to answer a few of the questions, though not all of them.
I was so focused during the entire quiz, I had forgotten to take pictures during the class itself so here's me reviewing around 2am, and me and my friends during the day in the elevator. Furthermore, we also had the first part of our quiz 2 through USTeP, which had taken a lot more effort than we expected due to the website continuously crashing while we were answering.
And that is all for this week!

For the seventh week, Engr. Carl announced in the course group chat that we were not having classes this week, and that he was uploading activity 2, the last midterm lecture, and guidelines for the PIT.
On the day of our scheduled class, we had a general assembly for the College of Engineering and Architecture. As a result, we attended that event instead of our usual class activities. The assembly provided an opportunity for us students and faculty to come together, discuss important updates, and foster a sense of community within the college and especially within our department. Although we missed out on our regular lessons, the experience was valuable in its own right, as it allowed us to connect with our peers and learn more about the initiatives and resources available to us in our academic journey.

Sixth week.
Like the past week, I was still practically living off of multiple cups of coffee throughout the week and not enough sleep. Not to mention, it seemed like my not taking care of myself has taken a toll on me because I was literally having a fever during classes this day.
Anyways, for this day, we discussed about software testing and all the details entailed in testing a system such as black-box testing and white-box testing. We also discussed about the SUS or the System Usability Scale: particularly how to solve it and how to interpret its result. After the discussion, we had an activity by group in which we were given photos of system interfaces and had to determine the errors in the front-end, and how to solve these errors. We also had to create our own SUS in google forms and integrate it into sheets, then solve for the score and provide our own conclusion.

For the fifth week, I was practically living off of several cups of coffee, stress, and little to no sleep. There was a surprise quiz this week, and I was so disappointed in myself with the fact that I was already so drained and dead tired from studying all night for a quiz on another subject, that I wasn't able to study for this one. I was so stumped during the entirety of the class/quiz that I had to rely on stock knowledge and my incompetent memory to answer the questions.
I honestly gained so many lessons that day, despite having no discussions for the day and only quizzes.
Moral of the story: always review your lessons and sleep.

During the fourth week of Software Engineering and Design, we had an in-depth discussion about Software Design and its significance in system development. We also discussed about the different design patterns, and things to consider when programming the system design.
Furthermore, we were also grouped randomly for a collaborative task regarding the discussion. For our group, we were given a scenario about a designing a system for collaborative document editing. To us, it sounded similar to programs like Canva or Google Docs. For the activity, we defined the core functionalities of the system, recommended design patterns that fit the features of the system, and sketched an initial system design. Then, we were tasked to analyze the work of the opposite group and see whether their recommended design patterns worked for their system or if it didn't.
In conclusion, I have learned a lot about software design and its value to a system project, and I also learned more about collaborating with other people with limited time budget.
That's all for the fourth week! ✧ ˚ · .

For the third week of Software Design and Engineering, the class was held asynchronously. However, it was also consultation hours, so some of our classmates took the opportunity to consult with Sir Carl regarding their manuscript and the required activity.
Our group, on the other hand, took the time to meet up virtually and discuss about the manuscript and the coding portion of the system, as well as the division of tasks. Because we were indecisive, we used an online picker wheel to decide which member was code which part of the system.
For the rest of the day and the week, we started on learning and coding some parts of our proposed system. That's all for the third week! .ೃ࿐

On the second day of SDE class for this semester, we got introduced to Software Engineering, its concept and how it applies to our program and course, and its significance to developing systems. Its history, evolution, and the various designs and techniques were also discussed.
Additionally, we also discussed the multiple factors of a good quality product which would be functional, within budget, user-friendly, flexible, etc., as well as the code of ethics for a developer/designer.
Furthermore, we were given a collaborative task by the last hour of our lecture which was to perform a case study about a certain company or a system project. Our group was tasked to do the case study about Galaxy Mining Company Ltd., which was a mining company in India but is located at various points in the country, which had a budget of a million rupees to develop an insurance system. By the end of this case study, we were able to conclude that the system is feasible.
To conclude, we were able to dive deep about the intricate details of software engineering and design, as well as its significance to our career during this lecture. That's all! ˋ°•*⁀➷

After weeks of bed-rotting and scrolling past hundreds of Tiktok videos over the summer, it's officially academic season once again! Or at least for us, Computer Engineering students.
For the first day of Software Design and Engineering class, headed by our dearest instructor, Engr. Carl Angelo Suasola, we had a brief introduction to each other, including our favorite song (mine was: how deep? by Tai Verdes). Besides that, we were also introduced to the course syllabus & content, course requirements, and a quick recap to the grading system.
In summary, it was a chill and fun first day of the course. I got introduced to new people and what to expect on SDE, and got to meet my friends again after the summer break.
Here's to hoping for a fun and promising semester!
