Greek Mythology: Ambrosia & Nectar
I’ve always loved mythology and workin’ in the kitchen, so after watching Percy Jackson and Disney’s Hercules, I decided to combine those two loves.
In Greek mythology it was believed that the gods had a special food and drink that granted the gift of immortality. The food was called ambrosia and the drink was called nectar. Historians believe, had this food really existed, it would be made with honey, since the ancient Greeks believed that it had healing powers and may have possibly granted immortality.
I took the idea of honey and ran wild with it for this recipe. I also used mostly ingredients that the ancient Greeks would’ve had access to, but also tried to make the cake decedent enough that only the most powerful of the gods would be able to eat it.

For the ambrosia, you will need:
2 Cups of all-purpose flour ½ Cup white sugar 1 TB baking powder 1 Cup plain Greek yogurt ½ Cup honey 3 Eggs 1 TS vanilla extract 1 Cup diced apples ½ Cup diced figs (I used dried)
For decoration, you will need 2 apples, finely sliced, and one pear, also finely sliced. If you want to get extra fancy like I did, 4 dried figs to go neatly on top. For the glaze, you will need 2 cups of honey and 2 cups of heavy whipping cream.
To make the ambrosia, you will need to first preheat your oven to 350°F. Next, grease up a couple 9 inch pans with butter, shortening, or canned oil like PAM.
Whisk together the dry ingredients and mix the wet ingredients separately. Once they’re nice and well blended, add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and whisk them together. The batter should be thick but not doughy.
Once the dry and wet have been thoroughly combined, add the diced fruits. I added one cup of both apples and figs, so if you like either or dislike either, you can put in as much, or little, as you like, as long as you don’t go over two cups total.
Once you’ve folded in your fruit, pour the batter into the prepared baking pans, then bake for 35 minutes.
While the cake is baking, measure out 2/3 cups of honey and 2/3 cups of cream, twice. Pour them into two bowls and heat individually in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds. After it’s heated, stir until it’s well combined.
Next, soak the sliced apples in one bowl of honey cream and soak the sliced pear in another bowl. If you have to put some of the apple in the pear bowl, that’s fine. I left the peels on, so it’d be easier to tell them apart, but if you peel them, the shape and texture will be different. Pears are softer and longer.
Let the fruit soak until the cake is done baking and has cooled. Once the cake is cool, remove it from the pans and onto separate plates.
Decorate one cake with the sliced fruit. Lay the slices in a ring any way you’d like, then place the 4 figs in the middle. Drizzle some of the honey cream over the fruit. There should be fruit and honey cream left, which should be saved to go with the plain cake.
And, voila, you’ve made ambrosia! My end result:

Next, for the nectar, you will need:
¼ Cup pomegranate juice ¼ Cup grape juice ½ Cup honey cream Rose Water to taste
All you need to do for this is combine all ingredients into a glass and mix well. Add ice, and it’s ready to drink! Once you’ve mixed it all, it should look like this:

If you want to make the nectar more interesting, only use ¼ cup of the honey cream, and replace the other ¼ with honey flavored vodka, or if you can find it, mead. You can also replace the grape juice with wine.
If you can’t find rose water or don’t like it, the drink is still delicious without it. I couldn’t find any at my local grocery store, but to me, nectar should have just a touch of floral flavor, so next time I make it, I will have rose water.
Anyway. That’s the recipe! I hope you have fun making it and eating it like I did, and if you want to see more fictionally-inspired food, keep an eye on this blog for updates!

Αlso here’s her sprite that I mαde αnd her original drawing of her that I mαde!!
In the drawn version she’s supposed to have some similarities to Queen because of the Queen mom theory (she has spikey shoulder pads, α beauty mark αnd her hair is supposed to be kinda giving off the same silhouette or whatever)

Enjoy some headcanons i have about Epic;
1) in God Games, Aphrodite specifically brings up the cyclops and Ody's mother, which makes me think that she died during the Cyclops Saga
2) Apart from Odysseus, his mother, and the crew, the only other character we hear using the "waiting" motif is Penelope. And she's the only one who hasn't died and/or gone to the underworld. Penelope may have been by Anticlea's side when she passed
3) when we hear Polites in Underworld, his motif is in a minor key. At first we attribute this to him being dead and in the underworld, but when we hear it again along with the others (Eurylochus and Anticlea) in Love in Paradise, their tunes including Polites' is different than the last time we heard it, and they change again including the crew's voice in Get In The Water, which means Ody is forgetting their voices over the years :)
4) We already know that what the dead say in the underworld is reflective of their last thoughts or words. When we hear Eurylochus in Love In Paradise and Get In The Water; he says "look at all we've lost and all we've learned" homeboy got some regrets in his heart.
