More redrawing old art. This time with an RPG au that I never showed anyone.
It’s not a detailed au, I just liked the idea of Jekyll and Hyde being shopkeepers that sell potions and weapons respectively in two halves of the same shop but are suspiciously never around at the same time.
If you do the right sidequests, they’re also probably a secret boss or something.
Also, Rachel being the tavern keeper where your party rests for nights, gets quests, and chats with people.

i know i made an entire post about how characters have nuance and you shouldn't immediately write them off for actions that will be resolved through the arc of the story but actually none of that applies to frankenstein because she annoys me

jekyll's about to go through a damn exorcism up there and frankenstein will still be calling him a sell out

yes! i do realize that! i am trans! i am critiquing her mistake! she needs to apologize! because what she did was NOT okay!
but people i have seen have immediately written off rachel as a TERRIBLE person because of this. and it's understandable that she would be keeping her distance, considering they had a disagreement right before the biggest event in the society. it would be the SMART decision to avoid having an argument or big emotional moment at an event where 1) jasper is presenting 2) there is little room for error
rachel IS in the wrong. that's not what i'm saying. she's just facing HEAVY backlash for a mistake that will undoubtedly be atoned for because that's the kind of character rachel is
some of you, as always, are being really weird about lanyon and rachel
rachel made a mistake and has not owned up to it. is this irritating? yes. is it an irredeemable character flaw and a sign that she's transphobic? no! yes, she should've listened to jasper when he asked her not to brush his hair, and it really seems like her talk with lucy has only made her target her "i must take care of you" instincts at jasper instead of hyde. but you know what the difference is? jasper is her PEER and FRIEND (plus romantic interest lol). hyde and her were never FRIENDS, there is always a wall of dishonesty and an uneven power struggle that prevents them from being friends and equals. jasper does not have this problem. this mistake WILL be talked about, they WILL work it out with each other, and rachel, most definitely, WILL apologize. because they are friends and equals. they will work through this issue TOGETHER.
now lanyon... the fact that some of you despite it at all cannot bring yourselves to even CONSIDER lanyon's point of view. henry is struggling, yes, with a similar issue that he was struggling with at the lanyons' party. THE LAST TIME LANYON TRIED TO HELP HIM THROUGH AN EPISODE, HENRY HIT HIM. RESPONDED WITH PHYSICAL VIOLENCE. it would be reasonable for lanyon to not want to be around henry AT ALL when he's like this.
AND YET LANYON STILL LOOKS CONCERNED. it's not that he doesn't CARE about henry, but the last time he tried, henry brushed him off and HIT HIM. it is perfectly reasonable for him to declare this "not his problem" because the last time he tried to MAKE IT his problem, it didn't work out!
there are many other nuances behind lanyon's behavior but that's a character trait and motivation thing. you are not obligated to like lanyon based on his character traits (he is pompous and abrasive, and i understand that's not for everyone). you are not obligated to see the justification behind lanyon's treatment of henry during their romantic relationship. HOWEVER. IF THIS WAS ANY OTHER CHARACTER REACTING THIS WAY, NO ONE WOULD SEE ANY ISSUE.
STOP holding the black characters in this comic to higher standards. they will make mistakes and act in ways you don't necessarily like. they are FLAWED and DYNAMIC characters. the fact that a lot of you only have these criticisms about lanyon and rachel is telling.

@rbdecepticon17 i'm not saying that no one ever criticizes other characters, the fandom's too big to make that definitive of a general statement. but people have been harking on lanyon and rachel's flaws specifically for a WHILE NOW. as i said, it's not a REQUIREMENT to like these characters, there are not free from criticism, but it is FAR more frequent that they face criticism.
i haven't been active for a bit, so most of my comments come from recent posts in the tag that i've seen. but, and maybe we're just in different circles, but the only posts i ever see about jekyll and hyde are positive. they baby them to no end, when they are in fact grown men. when hyde is selfish it's justified; when jekyll is standoffish and pretentious it's a product of his lifestyle, not his fault. i have only seen one or two posts criticizing jekyll for outing jasper to miss ito without his permission. rachel is STILL getting criticized.
if you don't agree, that's fine, i didn't ask you to. and like you said, i'm not saying fandom critiques of the white characters DON'T EXIST (everyone tears frankenstein a new one everytime she's in an update). it is just far more likely that people will defend white characters while harshly criticizing lanyon and rachel.

it really is tragic that i care more about the victorian steampunk soap opera plot lines than anything that has to do with hyde like yes please tell me more about lanyon's inner homosexual turmoil. please give me more romantic falling outs between jasper and rachel. please give me more victoria being petty. more lodge scientist content. more of it all.
