So was anybody going to tell me that the Phantom Thieves went into Sae’s Palace on 11/20 and beat up her cognitive version of Akechi to make sure the real Akechi didn’t bump into him and realise he’d been tricked or was I just supposed to find that out by talking to Futaba like five times on 11/21??

Oh, sorry, small correction: the Phantom Thieves went into Sae’s Palace on 11/20 and Makoto beat the shit out of Cognitive!Akechi, who was just an ordinary schoolboy with no powers.
YOU CANNOT TELL ME SHE DID NOT ENJOY EVERY FUCKING SECOND OF IT EITHER.
God I want fanart of cognitive!Akechi tied up and wiggling furiously in a closet somewhere.

Ok I’ll bite that I’ve seen takes where Akira is turned into a soft sentimental uwubean and the same but for Akechi and both of these are weird and I hate them.
Akechi is like a piece of unassuming soft fabric carefully draped over a cactus. Akechi is like a very grumpy cat that never puts his claws away. Akechi is not nice. Akechi has a plan and a mission and he will kill and destroy no matter what it takes, the few bonds he’s made along the way included, to see that come to an end. Akechi will not see his rival bloodied and beaten in the interrogation room and go “oh no I didn’t know it’d be this bad, here, let me help you.” He puts a gun against his head and tells him his justice sucks. Akechi during third semester refuses to let Akira be sentimental with him because he knows that sentimentality between the two of them could end the world.
Akira is also not as soft and nice as everyone likes to think he is. Akira’s Persona makes him promise Thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice, and be thou chained to hell itself. His ultimate Persona is Satanael. When in battle he can scream Die, die, die! and Ravage them and he’s willing to let Ann choose whether or not to kill their perverted and abusive PE teacher. Akira doesn’t trust cops, and he’s audacious, and he wears fake glasses because if he didn’t, people would notice him because he has such an intense look to his eyes that you couldn’t not notice him otherwise. Akira chooses to go behind his friends’ backs to chat with the detective on their case, who they later learn is going to try and kill him. Akira enters into a rivalry with this guy of his own volition, and doesn’t really get anything out of it than good company. He canonically mourns the loss of the very person who had killed the parents of two of his good friends, and is able to reconcile that.
Neither of them are nice people. It’s arguable if either of them are even good people. (“Good” being a subjective term, here.) That’s one of the things that makes them such good characters - their complexity, and the way that their morality is in the grey areas rather than clear black and white.
If they’re into each other? Then Akira, the darling hero of the story, is going to be attracted to someone who is capable of murder and who is still capable of slaughtering shadows with far more violence than any of his teammates would be comfortable with, or would show openly. Akira is canonically willing to work with the guy no matter what any of his teammates say. Also canonically able to use a showtime with him, which encourages and supports this behaviour.
If you listen to Akira’s voice lines, you’ll learn that this isn’t all that far off or unbelievable.
When I say I like the pairing I like it as oh hey there’s these two guys who are kinda feral and feel self-conscious showing that around others, but when they see the other guy they’re just like hey, that’s hot.

The day I picked up Dazai is a fucking goldmine but one of the most notable moment is the fact that Odasaku, Oda Sakunosuke, actually considered robbing an injured and nearly-dying kid. And the best part is that he would’ve if it wasn’t for the fact that it was a super note

Mori is not bad (BSD BEAST & BSD CHAPTER 30 SPOILER)
Tumblr media
Cre: Nakahara ChuuHuahua
In the main timeline, Mori also has contradictory thoughts about what he had/has to do and what he truly wanted/wants to do. You can find some explanation here.

My own take about this is actually going on the other direction mwehehe
1. Mori's goal with Dazai
In BEAST's epilogue, we finally found out Mori's true intention for Dazai. What he truly want is to 'save' Dazai from the despair that drove him to seek death.
Tumblr media
Rough TL: In front of my eyes, there is a boy who wishes to die. Even though I wished to save him, I was unable to do so. I do not want to experience that again.
2. Dark Era
something I found interesting is that when Dazai walked out from Mori's office for the last time in Dark Era, Mori is said to be smiling faintly while watching Dazai leaves.
Tumblr media
it's almost as if Dazai's anger, his rejection of Mori's purely logical reasoning that reduces life and death into mere statistic, was exactly what Mori was after.
Almost like Mori wanted to show the folly of this way of thinking to Dazai, to whom death is a trivial matter.
3. After that, Dazai left the Port Mafia. And Mori never once tried to put together a squad to look for Dazai. He allowed Dazai to leave.
After reading Storm Bringer and how apathetic Dazai was toward the life and death of the people around him and himself, we can really see how Odasaku's death was the first death that completely shocked him; overturning the notion in his mind that death is something beautiful to strive toward.
Through Odasaku's death, Dazai learns the value of life.
Mori, who masterminded all of this, knows all of this. Knows that Odasaku is a special and important person in Dazai's life who has no intention for betrayal like Ango. He was the only one Mori can use to teach the lesson of how weighty life and death is to Dazai who has no concept of it.
Tumblr media
And in the end? Mori's goal of saving the suicidal boy succeeded.
Dazai now lives in ADA, finding companionship, understands the value of life and the meaning of struggle.
Odasaku once imagined the only way to help Dazai is to tie him up and clean the things inside of his head with a vacuum cleaner. Perhaps, that was what Dark Era was all about.
Why did Mori choose to drive Dazai out of the Mafia instead of Killing him?
It’s a short analysis but here’s what I think about it
Why did Mori made Dazai leave the Port Mafia? As Mori had said himself, Dazai posed a threat to his life and his hold over the Port Mafia. In such situation the easiest and most effective way to eradicate this threat would be to kill Dazai right? But Mori didn’t do that.
Dazai, as Mori himself has claimed in the Dark Era, is way way smarter than Mori. And that makes him an asset as much as it makes him a threat. I think the only reason Mori didn’t kill Dazai was because he knew that he would be needing Dazai’s intelligence in the future.
Like without Dazai they will have no chance to defeat Fyodor. In the guild arc and in a lot other instances Dazai is a necessity in the protection of Yokohama.
Let’s not forget Mori took over Port Mafia because of Natsume, who wanted to create a Tripartite System to protect Yokohama.
That and his ability is very special, and it can be a very valuable thing to have on their side. With these two points in mind we can say that killing Dazai would be of huge loss to Mori.
So instead of killing Dazai, Mori made sure that he would go to the side of light. In such conditions Dazai would never pose a threat to his life because in the side of light Dazai wouldn’t kill someone without a proper reason. And as mentioned above in the Tripartite System, Fukuzawa is too aware of the importance of Port Mafia and thus Mori for the city of Yokohama. Hence Mori’s life and his position in the Port Mafia would be guarded AND Dazai’s ability and mental prowess can be used.
