Caribou (Dan Snaith) is quite an anomaly in the world of music. He resembles your average high school geography teacher and has a PhD in Mathematics, yet he’s chosen to make music and unsurprisingly he’s got rather good at it.

Emerald Bay was formed by a glacier during the last glacial episode. When the glacier reached Lake Tahoe, it crossed the large boundary fault on the west side of the Tahoe basin and abruptly entered the lake. Upon entering the lake, the glacier began to melt and left glacial debris in the form of a small island in the middle of the bay it formed. (at Emerald Bay State Park)

A vivid orange stairwell and a canted glass facade are among the modifications that US studio Fougeron Architecture has made to a century-old house in San Francisco. “Each floor is placed between three slots so that the home connects vertically rather than horizontally,“ the team said. "Traditional Victorian homes often are poorly lit and are disconnected from floor to floor, but by suspending floors, there is brightness and fluidity throughout.” (at San Francisco, California)

The Water Cycle: When the sun’s energy heats water, turning it into vapor through Evaporation. At higher altitudes and lower pressure, this vapor becomes tiny droplets in clouds through Condensation. With changing temperature or pressure, the droplets form into liquid or solid again through Precipitation in the form of snow, sleet, mist or hail. ---- Some of the precipitation falls onto the land and collects into rivers and lakes which finally into the ocean, in a process called Collection. Rain will soak or Percolate deep into the ground becoming groundwater for springs or to be absorbed from the ground by roots of plants or trees. ---- Water moves from the earth to the air to the earth again meaning we are using the same water that was once used by the dinosaurs.

Tale of Us: “I studied the piano and took lessons for seven or eight years, from when I was about 7 years old until I was 16. When I continued with music, I discovered electronic music production in general, and Reason in particular. Reason was stunning. Everything was suddenly possible! At that moment, my brain went: Okay, that's it, I'm done, finished. You don't have to look for anything else.” - Carmine Conte, Tale of Us

Sand Dune Formation: The tiny grains of quartz and feldspar that make up this dune field began as much larger pieces of solid rock. High in the mountains bedrock is broken down into blocks and speeding storm waters grind the rock to smaller pieces of sediment as it flows toward the valley floor. In Death Valley’s climate, it doesn’t take long for the sediment to dry out and become exposed to the winds that shape dunes.

The Broad: The “sense of scale makes the building legible, as billboards in L.A. should be, from a moving car; but the building is also attuned to the visitor on foot, signaling its frontality with the great cyclopean eye on its façade, inviting visitors in with its glassed-in rez-de-chaussée, and then sending them up an escalator through the mysterious concrete ‘vault.’” - Diller Scofidio + Renfro Architects

Birds are Dinosaurs: It is widely accepted that birds evolved from theropods, which share over 100 traits with modern birds including three forward-facing toes and a fused collarbone, called a wishbone (yes, that kind of wishbone!). Small theropods such as Sinosauropteryx evolved the first feathers to provide insulation. The feathers seem to have had different color patterns as well and it is unclear whether these were for display, camouflage, species recognition, or another function.

Stavroz’s music derives from classical inspiration of both jazz and burlesque. They lay somewhere between minimal and jazz-house but to specify them in a single genre would be obscure as they incorporate sounds often left out in electronic music.

Pedraforca is a mountain in the Pre-Pyrenees, located in the comarca of Berguedà. The mountain's rare form, along with the fact that it is not visibly connected to any other adjacent mountains or ridges, has made it one of the most famous and emblematic mountains in Catalonia, the northeastern-most region Spain. #photography (at Pedraforca, Saldes)

This Sleek Building Is Actually a Nuclear Reactor: “Aesthetically it alludes to the northern areas that we’re interested in serving,” says COO Caroline Cochran. “And it’s functional for the snow and precipitation in those areas.” The triangle shape also gives the structure strength to support the interior crane and has favorable heat-transfer characteristics, which can help performance.

Geysers are made from a hole in the Earth's surface that runs deep into the crust. The tube is filled with water. Near the bottom of the tube is molten rock called magma, which heats the water in the tube. Water in the lower part of the tube, close to the magma, becomes superhot and forces the water upward. The boiling water begins to steam, or turn to gas. The steam jets toward the surface.

Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone[2] due to flash flooding and other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways eroded away, deepening the corridors and smoothing hard edges to form characteristic "flowing" shapes.
