Had to share this here because you're right and you should say it. It's incredible how many people came out of the woodwork as soon as AO3 was down and suddenly had no compunctions at all about screaming how much they love and need fanfic--on the AO3 twitter. Is it so much harder to do in the comment section?

At this point I don't care anymore if people call me entitled or think I'm out of line. If fanfic is so meaningful to you that you cannot go half an hour without, let alone 24h, then you can get over yourself long enough to write a fucking comment. No excuses.

Told my mum about the Oceangate situation because she doesn't follow any sort of news, and I thought she'd be all, "oh, those poor people!" cuz she's a rich-people advocate, but I forgot that her main trait is actually being a Buddhist — she was neither sad for them not gleeful at the death of idiocy, she just said something to the effect of, "They searched for a thrill and paid the full price for that specific one. Every one of them chose to be in that vehicle, and must have known the vessel even better than us considering they actually encountered it. They knowingly took their life into their hands; who are we to say they shouldn't have? Their life is their own." Zero pity for the 19yo son — "He chose to go as well. Younger people have died for less stupid choices, why should he be grieved over more?"
