If you have claimed a prompt, it should show up under "claims" on your ao3 dashboard - just click "claims" then "fulfill" and it will walk you through it. if you are writing without a prompt, claim the "open prompt," which is the first one in the collection, and follow the same steps!

Hey yall! First, thank you so much for hosting this, it’s been all I can think about for WEEKS.

Second, I have a question about etiquette? It’s my first time participating in this kind of thing, and I’m 10k in to this prompt when I realized I might be making a faux pas. I claimed a Yuki/Max prompt with to other tags or suggestions, and I’m wondering, does that mean they want a straight up cannon(ish) drivers fucking smut fic? Because now I’m 10k into an au porn with plot but the plot is about discovering the joys of cooking. And I’m concerned that this is super uncool, to claim a prompt and then go in a crazy direction with it?! Should I drop the prompt and just post this as its own thing?

Anon, you are so sweet!!! If a prompt has no other specifications, you can definitely do whatever you want, don’t feel constrained by something not being tagged!

And, personally, I (Jo) think your Yuki/Max fic sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it!

is there a reason reveals and subimssion deadline are a week apart? is it meant to give people running late a little bit more time, or do you stop accepting submissions on the 8th? sorry for the question I'm mainly just curious

both mods are chronic procrastinators so yes lol we wanted to build in some cushion time if people give us a heads up that they need a bit more time. we also wanted to build in time to fix any technological issues with the collection since we're both new to this!

1. are chaptered works okay? ex: posting a first chapter of a longer fic?

2. how will the anonymous posting work? as in, should i not leave anything that will identify me in the author's note until the work is de-anonimised? (<- i'm doubting if this is a real word)

Welcome to F1 Rare Pair Fest!

Have you ever looked in vain for the perfect fic between your two favorite drivers who've spoken less than six words to each other? Look no further! We are a fest hosted by ro @oscarpiastriwdc and jo @princesscharlesofmonaco, dedicated to creating fanworks celebrating the under-sung pairings of the Formula One fandom.

Timeline:

Prompting is open until February 1. Submissions for the fest are due March 8. The works will be revealed anonymously on March 14 and de-anonymized on March 16, just in time for the opening race of the 2025 season.

Ground Rules:

You must claim a prompt, self-prompt, or use the "open" prompt to post your work in the ao3 collection.

All works must be properly tagged.

There is a 1500 word minimum for written works.

Your work must center a "rare pair" — you can use your discretion as to what that means. (that being said, if you post lestappen or landoscar I will cry -jo)

FAQ:

Do I have to claim a prompt? To post into the collection, you have to claim a prompt. However, you are free to claim a prompt written by another user, self-prompt and claim for yourself, or use the "open" prompt available for anyone to post into the collection.

Can I participate as an artist? YES! You are free to claim any prompt or use the open free-for-all. We love the wonderful artists in our fandom!!

Hey!! This will be my first time participating in a fest and working with prompts also first time uploading a fic to ao3(god help me) so I'm not sure about how things work ahah so naturally I have some questions

1. I'm very big on anonymity so if I claim a prompt(anon or otherwise) will my url be visible to the prompter? To others? To the mods?

2. Will it be considered rude to claim a prompt and fail to publish a fic? Cause ik it would suck but also I have zero trust in my writing capabilities

3. And if I do manage to put out a half decent fic will the prompter be able to see my url post march 16 even if I choose to keep it anonymous?

Ik it's a bit much but I would greatly appreciate answers cause I'm loving the prompts ahaha

1. I do not believe your url is visible to anyone at claiming, however as I (Jo) am not running the ao3 portion of this fest, I’m tagging in Ro @oscarpiastriwdc to confirm!

2. Anon I have all the faith in your writing capabilities! But no, if you don’t end up producing a work for your claim we understand <3 life is life, and we allow multiple claims per prompt for a reason

3. I don’t think the prompter will see your ao3 if you choose to stay anonymous!

Hello I still don't get it regarding the anon status of prompter after reveal specifically the "Someone really dug they could link your ao3 account to your prompt" part. What does this mean specifically? Does that mean whoever claimed and fullfiled the prompt can see the prompter or everyone can try to see?

Hi anon, sorry! I (jo) definitely didn’t phrase that very clearly last night! No one can see your url if you click the “semi-anonymous” box!

This is what ao3 says on an old faq I found: since [the prompt] will still be linked in the database with your username, we can't guarantee 100% anonymity - in some circumstances, such as a coding bug, it might be accidentally revealed or guessable

I will also note that I believe as the admin, @oscarpiastriwdc can see who has submitted prompts but cannot see which prompts each url submitted (and ro will certainly not be sharing that information)

is it a faux-pas to claim your own (anonymous) prompt if no one is claiming it? or is it better to use an open prompt there? like, i guess only you as the moderator can see that but still...

you are absolutely welcome to do that! we support self-claims, sometimes you get an idea and want to make sure it's shared, and that's lovely!

maybe this is a silly q, but would lando/oscar/max f--like very specifically all three of them--count as a rare pair? like ik one pair of them is Top 92nd Ship on AO3, another pair is solidly middling, and the other one has eight (8) total works at the moment, so i'm a little unsure if it would be a valid request…?

(yes, i am aware of the two piatrell promts already on the page, i just want to put in one with lando actively involved)

As it says on the pinned post, submissions are due March 8th! If you want to write something with multiple chapters you can submit the first chapter

WHEN YOUR PAIR IS TOO RARE FOR AO3

So, we have run into a minor technical hiccup!! The AO3 prompt meme interface does not, in its default settings, allow for relationship tags that are too uncommon to be tracked by AO3. This is obviously a problem for a rare pair fest.

There is a low-tech solution: just leave the relationship blank in the prompt form, and specify in the description what relationship you wnat.

HOWEVER, there is another solution, which we have implemented, because we want you to be able to tag your rare pairs in the relationship box if you so desire! If you try to prompt a ship and get the "this is not canonical, contact the mods" response, you can either nominate the tag in the tag set on ao3 (and ro or jo will accept it from there) or contact us on this blog or through our individual blogs ( @princesscharlesofmonaco and @oscarpiastriwdc ) with the ship you want to be able to tag and we can add the it to the set ourselves.
