Moved a bloomless lily from its cracked vase
to the ground
where it sprouted bold leaves, flowers, shoots
that then burned under sunlight
grew holey from being chewed
Replanted in a glass jar I then dropped
broke
a grimace sharper than the glass and dirt
spread across the sidewalk
Bare hands stained and nails caked
tenderly lifted the shoots into a clay pot
and sunk the flowered roots
into black soil in the shade, but no rain came
while under the roof, the shoots
assumed goners
blossomed like madmen
drunk on Manhattans
Flowers shriveled while the new green leaves
sheltered
and watered by now washed hands
defy gravity
.

I try not to
think about it so much
but
somewhere in me
are dreams of us
dancing silly in classy clothes
you giving me a purple flower
walking talking on the road
kissing and crying under the sheets
getting married and having kids,
sitting together at 80 and thinking
how we still love and live
like we always did.
- you gave me a lavender flower in my dream last night

𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐚 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum -
Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race,
Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -
