IAS Exam Pattern

Starting From Exam Pattern IAS exam is conducted to select a deserving candidate for Indian Administrative services. Therefore, the IAS Exam Pattern is designed to test the abilities of candidates who are willing to serve their nation. Basically, the IAS exam is divided into 3 different parts: IAS Preliminary Exam, IAS Main Exam and IAS Personality Test. Each part consists of different numbers and types of questions, marking scheme, sectional weightage and duration. 

IAS Preliminary Exam: In the preliminary exam, two papers of objective type are conducted that carry a maximum of 400 marks and are considered as the qualifying papers, whose marks are not counted in the total IAS score.

IAS Main Exam: Again in mains, two papers are conducted but of different types, the first one is again a qualifying paper consisting of two language exams and the second one consists of 9 papers whose score will be counted for merit. It comprises of both objective type as well as essay writing questions.

IAS Personality Test: Candidates who qualify the above two exams then appear for an interview of 275 marks. Psychometric Test, Assessment Test and the Personal Interview is conducted in IAS Personality test. Marks obtained in Personality Test as well as Main Exam will be calculated to declare the final merit list.
