Hey, friends, there's a BIG recall going on in the US of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that are potentially contaimated with Listeria. The products in question were sold to restaurants and other commercial institutions, but a lot of them were used in products like ready-to-eat salads or freezer meals — HEB, Trader Joes, and Fresh Express are just some of the companies that have been identified so far.
FSIS, the branch of the USDA that regulates these items, has a list of products that would have been sold in groceries and convenience stores, though I recommend checking back since it looks like the list is a work in progress. https://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls-alerts/brucepac-recalls-ready-eat-meat-and-poultry-products-due-possible-listeria.
Look for "51025" or "P-51025" on the USDA inspection stamp that should be on the packaging.

glimpse into my beautiful imaginary world where arthropods are really big and we domesticated them

edit: people are starting to say some "my worst nightmare" or "eeeww no that one is yucky and scary" comments on this like they do on any bug post and id like to say. it's fine if you don't like bugs it's fine if you're scared of bugs but don't put that on MY post clearly talking about how much i like them and how cute i think they are. you can make your own damn post about how much you hate wasps or spiders or whatever. i'm blocking people who make these kinds of comments.

If you're feeling anxious or depressed about the climate and want to do something to help right now, from your bed, for free...
Start helping with citizen science projects
What's a citizen science project? Basically, it's crowdsourced science. In this case, crowdsourced climate science, that you can help with!
You don't need qualifications or any training besides the slideshow at the start of a project. There are a lot of things that humans can do way better than machines can, even with only minimal training, that are vital to science - especially digitizing records and building searchable databases
Like labeling trees in aerial photos so that scientists have better datasets to use for restoration.
Or counting cells in fossilized plants to track the impacts of climate change.
Or digitizing old atmospheric data to help scientists track the warming effects of El Niño.
Or counting penguins to help scientists better protect them.
Those are all on one of the most prominent citizen science platforms, called Zooniverse, but there are a ton of others, too.
Oh, and btw, you don't have to worry about messing up, because several people see each image. Studies show that if you pool the opinions of however many regular people (different by field), it matches the accuracy rate of a trained scientist in the field.
--
I spent a lot of time doing this when I was really badly injured and housebound, and it was so good for me to be able to HELP and DO SOMETHING, even when I was in too much pain to leave my bed. So if you are chronically ill/disabled/for whatever reason can't participate or volunteer for things in person, I highly highly recommend.
Next time you wish you could do something - anything - to help
Remember that actually, you can. And help with some science.

feelin’ poorly? Here are some ideas :)
low spoons:
-cuddle with a partner, pet, and/or friend. Platonic cuddles are very good for you (looking at that specific person, you know who you are)
-watch or re-watch a movie or show you really like
-order something tasty for yourself (yes, it may not be “healthy” in the conventional sense, but some things are really healthy for your mental state)
-listen to music you really like
-got a hyperfixation or special interest? I’d love to hear about it! My asks are open :3
medium spoons
-draw a bath, maybe you could light candles or add a bath bomb.
-make a mug cake. I’ll link some recipes
-discover some new media, like a book you haven’t read or a music artist that seems interesting.
high spoons
-dress up fancy, even if you’re just going to stay at home. Sometimes it’s just fun to look nice.
-change your bedsheets! To me, it feels really nice to have clean bedsheets.
-write a love letter to yourself. Just tell yourself all the things you appreciate about you.
-make some art, be it visual, performative, or musical! It doesn’t have to be ‘good’, it can just be about the process.
-make yourself some comfort food.
reblogs much appreciated!! Lmk if you have any ideas you think I should add.

I watched the “The Wild Robot” recently and it really gives someone a new whole perspective on life and wild life. I loved all the animation and music involved! I have never read the books but have heard many recommending it and watching the movie. It made me cry, and love the friendship between Fink and Roz. AND THE LOVING MOTHER AND SON DYNAMIC BETWEEN BRIGHTBILL AND ROZ 😭. Anyways I want there to be a second movie of this and TFOne. (I do wanna draw Orion and Roz interacting. Because I mean come on her and him interacting is perfect).
