I heard someone say once that most artists have to pretend when they are on stage but are themselves when they get off, but Elvis was the opposite, he was pretending when he was off stage and was himself when he was on it, and to me it makes a lot of sense. His presence and charisma, the way that people just stared at him, he didn't even need to say a word.

Truly one of a kind, the best of all time, and my favourite.

After the final show there was a press conference at which Elvis was presented with gold records for 5 of his 1969 releases. RCA Vice-President Rocco Loginestra was on hand to present Elvis with five gold records. They were 'In The Ghetto', 'Suspicious Minds', 'Don't Cry Daddy' and two albums 'Elvis At The International' and 'From Elvis In Memphis'. It is reported that this is the first time any artist has received five gold records in one year.

At the Sunday afternoon press conference (This Press Conference has always been wrongly dated as being from February 27, 1970, but no Press Conference was held on that date) Elvis said he hadn't seen anything of Houston outside his hotel suite and the Astrodome. Elvis went on to tell reporters "I got a big thrill out of this appearance, I loved it. I know I'm signed to do the International Hotel in Las Vegas again, but nothing has been said about other personal appearances. I'd like to do them." Later in the news conference he said "I knew it would be hard work at the Dome. There is no personal contact. I decided I just had to work as hard as I could, do the show and get off. The sound system bugged me the first night because I kept hearing my own echo. We had our own engineer and we got that all straightened out." Source: elvispresleymusic.com.au

At 36 years old, ELVIS was presented with a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD — then named the BING CROSBY AWARD (1971)

On August 9, 1971 Elvis opened his 5th season at the Las Vegas Hilton International Hotel. Elvis held two shows every day for almost a month. The closing night was on September 6, 1971.

Las Vegas Hilton International Hotel, Las Vegas, NV. Elvis plays an engagement in Las Vegas at the International Hotel, which has been renamed the Las Vegas Hilton International Hotel. This run of Elvis shows in Las Vegas tops his previous attendance records once again. During the engagement, an award is presented to Elvis in his dressing room. It is the Bing Crosby Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organization that also presents Grammy awards. This award is a special means of recognition from NARAS and is named for its first recipient. The award is not given every year as a rule. It will later be renamed the Lifetime Achievement Award.
