There was a day someone sent an ask requesting that I draw their favorite ship. It turned out to be adultxchild and I declined it. I explained that I don’t draw gross stuff like that and for anyone who did like it to stop interacting with me. For two straight weeks my inbox was full of hate. I think the worst of it was the ask that accused me of thinking that anyone who likes those ships should die when I never even eluded to anything like that.

All of this because I said I didn’t like something and set a clear boundary.

I didn’t know what shipping discourse was at the time. I grew up on a site where that’s unheard of. It was only after I received two weeks worth of anon hate that I started noticing terms like anti or proship floating around. Then it all clicked when I surfed through tags for a little bit. People thought I was some aggressive keyboard warrior called an anti because I said I didn’t like adultxchild ships. I learned people who liked adultxminor ships were proshippers.

I wouldn’t call myself an anti, but the whole experience made me not like proshippers.

I thought I would share what happened to me since I came across your blog.

Any proshipper I’ve come across in the last year has always had a group of close parasocial mutuals who defend their name as though they’re a saint who can do no wrong. Like full on harassing people who disagree with them, circles of drama based around one person with the same 5 people reblogging and commenting on posts and sending hate asks until the person closes down their blog. It’s insane how manipulative proshippers are with their mutuals, they force them into growing attached so that they feel it’s ‘us against the world’

Fandom-poisoned fucks assuming that people saying "fiction affects reality" is the same as them saying "fiction has a 1:1 with reality" has been absolutely disastrous. "Affecting reality" can simply be fictional media making you feel something even in a minor way, because that's quite literally affecting your reality! It's an honor for media to be strong enough to affect you, and thinking about how it does so is just the territory that comes with that honor.

i hate whenever people bring up therapy in these arguments. therapy is not a monolith. “no therapist would say (blank)”, “my therapist says (blank)”, “therapists agree that (blank)” mean nothing because in the end of the day what helps someone else does not help others. it’s great if your therapist tells you engaging in ‘dark’ content helps you and that you should keep doing it. my therapist tells me the opposite. and when people say “(blank)shippers need therapy!!��?? like bro everyone would benefit from therapy. that’s the point of therapy. and going to therapy won’t just magically make you believe in something else, change your morals, or suddenly make you comfortable with or uncomfortable with dark content?? why do people act like therapy is this one limited thing that Makes You A Good Person or some shit???

THANK YOU everyone bringing up the original point of ‘ship and let ship’. The original point of proshipping made so much sense, allowing people to have fun with ships and not face hate just because it’s an unpopular ship. In the early 2010’s there was a big amount of hate against wlw ships specifically, not ones that had anything morally questionable in them either. Being anti-censorship means we can fight back against stereotypes, discuss fiction and what is portrayed in a deeper way, literally just draw what we want without homophobes or transphobes being like ‘that’s not canon, you can’t draw that’. And even beyond fandom culture, uncomfortable topics NEED to be addressed and seen in fiction! Fiction is the easiest way to introduce someone to new concepts, understand the complexities of abuse, exploitation, etc through the lense of a story. (The only thing is I draw the line at people depicting on-screen explicit rape scenes because male directors always use that to fetishise abuse against women)

Unfortunately it’s now like, constantly being scared of interacting with a ‘pro-paraphilia pro-zoophilia shotacon profic fujoshi DONT LIKE DONT READ’ type of person lmaooo
