This is both my first read and my re-read of the Wheel of TIme series by Robert Jordan. I have previously read the first 7 books--but not the last 7! I am starting again after a long break, hopefully to finish this time. Sincerely, Rae:)

One of my favorite things about bookshelves is that there’s so many ways to organize them.
The “right” way, by author last name, then series?

Nice.
Alphabetical by title?

Cool.
Genre?

Took forever, but makes sense.
Or we could do color

Ah, so pretty.
Or maybe you prefer something like publication date.

A little unconventional, but alright.
Or maybe you want your family to think you’re completely insane and arrange by the number of pages of readable content.

…Yeah.

It is such a sweet, gentle book. Written in the 1920s I think, and very much a classic fairy tale with some great messages that I pick up on more every time I read it. I wanna read it to my kids someday:)
Bad Day Books
On the days that I’m feeling down or just exhausted, I like to read Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s an easy read, it won’t make me feel any complicated emotions, and it might make me laugh. Never fails to make me feel better. I’d love to hear what everyone else’s go-to book is, and why! Comment/reblog!

Either A Little Princess by Frances Hodgkin Burnett, or The Wind Boy by Ethel Cook Elliot. Those have been my bad day books since I was little. I guess I’m a softie.

wheel of time + @wolfpupy tweets
rand al'thor: life is about the journey not the destination, forget about the impact and just enjoy hurtling on fire in a downward trajectory
matrim cauthon: if you take a second to think about it, that's one second you have completely wasted
perrin aybara: if you underestimate a wolfs ability to wield a weapon just because of a lack of thumbs you will get what you deserve in the end.
egwene al'vere: things are going really well for me now that i've changed the meaning of really well to the opposite of what it means in my head.
min farshaw: looks like things are always happening once again
nynaeve al'meara: i won't do what i'm told, it involves listening to what people tell me
moiraine damodred: i did the best i could with the resources i was given, which was nothing
faile bashere: stop being so defensive i am just trying to hit you with weapons
tuon athaem al'paendrag: who would have thought that 10, 20, even 30 seconds later that the thing you said would still not matter to me, yes time is a cruel mistress
elayne trakand: i'm not going to claim that i know everything, i am simply going to act like it
aviendha: blood is just nature's red water that flys out when you make a mistake. relax and enjoy the experience for once
the dark one: when the sun goes out, the air turns to fire, and the streets run red with blood, i am probably to blame for it
asmodean: where people like you see a problem i see opportunity to create worse problems
aginor: back in the frankenstein times you could make a monster whenever you wanted, these days you have to have a license or something i guess
lanfear: when you get your revenge on someone always immediately hit them with a second revenge, undercuts any counter-revenge or betrayal they have
graendal: everyone who died and was killed on my quest to get really good hair and fashion deserved it and i dont care
ishamael/moridin: instead of spending all your time trying to make things better and failing you can cut out the middleman and just make things worse
the forsaken, generally: i don't want to throw anyone under the bus here unless they are my enemy or betrayer or if it will help me get where i'm going faster

As someone that's never read any Wheel of Time, where would you suggest starting?
Lemme give you a Wheel of Time primer, because I wish that more people would read these books. WoT isn’t flaw free, but there are so many great female characters in Wheel of Time, and so many great poc characters, and so many of them are in positions of power. There are well thought-out matriarchies (plural)! Body positivity! These characters are my friends, and I want everyone to meet them. This is the order of the main series:
The Eye of the World
The Great Hunt
The Dragon Reborn
The Shadow Rising
The Fires of Heaven
Lord of Chaos
A Crown of Swords
The Path of Daggers
Winter’s Heart
Crossroads of Twilight
Knife of Dreams
The Gathering Storm
Towers of Midnight
A Memory of Light
Other stories set in this world:
New Spring - a prequel, set approximately 20 years before the main series. I recommend reading this after Winter’s Heart.
The Strike at Shayol Ghoul - a prequel, of sorts, available online. It’s written as if it were an ancient, fragmentary “manuscript” that someone recently found. Don’t read this until you’ve at least Book 5 or 6, imo.
“River of Souls,” a short story in the Unfettered anthology - deleted scenes from A Memory of Light. Do not read until after AMOL.
There were two other novella prequels planned, one about Moiraine & Lan’s arrival in The Two Rivers, and another about Tam’s journeys during the war, but Robert Jordan died before these stories could be written, and while there are notes about them, they will probably never be written, and I will never get over it. More info.
Companion books:
The World of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time - informally referred to by fans as The Big White Book. An encyclopedia with a lot of history and background, similar to GRRM’s The World of Ice and Fire. Don’t read this until you’ve read through Winter’s Heart (Book 9)
The Wheel of Time Companion - A dictionary / encyclopedia. It’s basically a wiki in book format. Contains spoilers for the entire series, so do not read this until you’ve read the whole series.
Leigh Butler’s Wheel of Time Reread - basically officially sanctioned meta. Also available for free on Tor.com
Keep reading
