Going to share some of the backgrounds, character sprites and concept art from this game!

It was really fun drawing snowy landscapes, but I’ll have you know I was sweating my balls off in the height of summer with no aircon in my apartment while making these!

I loved putting details in the memory scenes! I made some custom gradient maps for the landscapes to help speed up to process (it was a big time crunch!!) and tried to create a more vivid palette here to contrast the winter scenes.

Here’s the best example of the two main colour styles I used. Both have undertones of browns and purples, but the main colours being cool or warm change the feeling entirely!

While I did do the character design on our previous vn freakaversity, this time I was in charge of ALL visual assets. To make sure I got all the backgrounds we needed, I made quick thumbnails to capture the vibe and use as a guide for the final versions.

Onto the characters! Mat did a great job creating an interesting story for Syn and Baldyr, so it was great to bring them to life with these character sprites!

We were originally going to have a different version of Syn + Baldyr for the memories - but since it was just me making all the assets & I didn’t have the full month for this jam due to graduating with my bachelors in the early weeks of Dec, we decided to drop the memory version.

~~

Here were the concepts I made for their outfits. If you know me, you’ll know I love playing dress ups like this!

I was told explicitly NOT to make Baldyr’s hair too long 😔 but I think the final versions Mat and I agreed on are pretty cool!
