Conditioner Review.
Hello! I have another review on a conditioner. Ulta was having a sale which is my biggest weakness. I made sure to check out what was in it and long behold Goldwell extra rich color conditioner was there. I decided to give it a shot since we have carried this line in my salon before. Poor choice.
The bottle is simple with the pink color to show it is apart of their color line. The smell is very floral with a baby powder type smell mixed in which I do not mind but it is very powerful so many people might not enjoy it. Specifically my problem with this conditioner is it says on the bottle directly “detangling conditioner” but it does not detangle what do ever. I have long hair that is highlighted so naturally it tangles more because the highlights dry it out. When I get out of the shower it normally takes me under 5 minutes to brush out my hair. With this product it takes me close to 10 even when I use a leave-in spray. I cannot comfortably recommend this product; but just because something does not work for me doesn’t mean it cant be someone else's holy grail. I have tried the conditioner now for a week and nothing has changed. I will be switching back to Wella that I have previously reviewed for the sanity of my hair.

Easy DIY
Since I promised I would be doing more DIY’s here is another one for the college girl. Dry shampoo is pretty expensive and if you’re anything like me you go right through the cans. Here is an easy reciepy to fool people into thinking you washed your hair.
DIY dry shampoo:
½ cup organic cornstarch
3-4 drops essential oil for the scent
If you have colored hair:
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder – for people with darker hair
2 Tbsp cinnamon – for people with red or auburn hair
Bonus points if you really want to be a hipster put it in a mason jar for storage to use all the time because lets be honest you’re too busy being fabulous to worry about how your hair looks.

Results of the mask
Unfortunately my roommate and I were messy while we did these masks and were not able to take photos for it but I can provide a review for them!
in my opinion I liked the 1 Egg Yolk, 2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil, 1 Tbsp. Honey mask the best because I have such fine hair it did not hold my hair down and it was easy to wash out. I got great shine for the hairmask and it was so easy that I think it would be something I could do weekly. I am hoping I see more progress for this with my hair being damaged from highlighting but my initial response is very positive.
My Roomate preferred the other mask which was the 1 tsp olive oil, 1 Tbsp honey, ¼ cup yogurt. She felt that she was getting more of the luscious shine that she lost from over-processing her hair. Her hair is thicker than mine so the olive oil really benefitted her. In her opinion she enjoyed the smell. It would not be something either of us would buy as a candle but it was not a heavy smell, honestly it just smelled like the yogurt.
The masks were a success and did not take long at all to make or clean. This brings an encouraging future to my world a DIY projects.

Storytime
It has been a wild week at the salon so I have much to say but for now I am just going to give a short story about a particular event.
I have seen some wild stuff during my last few years of working in the salon. I feel as if I have been taken to war and back by some of these clients. Oh I was so wrong, the worst was yet to come. My day started off as any normal Tuesday would drinking my coffee and studying for a quiz I have every Wednesday. Everything was fine until I breathed into my nose and smelled something horrid; I should have ran.
A woman comes into the salon resembling something of death. I will never be rude to a client, I take a good bit of a beating from them so to say. This woman would not be a client in my eyes, she was an vicious creature from hell. She had been a client that was coming in for years and all the stylists refuse to do her hair because she is so mean. My boss of course will still do it and charge her over $200 because she waits for her hair to grow out several inches of gray then ask it to be dyed to a jet black color. This woman was screaming curse words, talking about personal subjects, making racist remarks, and looking for a fight. I wish I could make it up when I said i was told to walk around the salon every 5 minutes to spray fabreeze to in each room because the smell lingered.
This is the icing on the cake. I got the lovely responsibly of washing her hair. I have been washing hair for over 3 years, I know what I am doing. She made me switch constantly from hot and cold water but refused warm. Proceeded to call me a “hooker” for wearing a dress and heels. Tried to force a political conversation which I was not having. She would not pick her head up even though I was very aware that she was able to; its something I make sure of before any shampoo to avoid getting someone wet. She insisted on sitting on two cushions, that was an easy request. I made a poor choice letting her have a cushion, she peed. Stuff happens, never have I dealt with that before but I did not judge her for that. I am a germaphobe though and after how nasty she had been to me that was the final straw. I dried her hair told my boss and let management handle it because I was done. She did not tip me either.

Trying a DIY
If there is one thing someone should know about me its that I hate DIY projects. I am not creative, articulate, or crafty in any way. My roommate on the other hand is basically Martha Stewart. This is one of the only DIY projects I am willing to attempt and that is because it has to do with keeping my hair healthy.
We’re making do it yourself hair masks (DUN DUN DUN). I am not feeling like destroying my kitchen and bathrooms for this so have no fear we will make it a simple and clean one; or at least advise on how to keep it that way. I will write out two recipes that we will be trying and get back on the results of both (with actual photos this time). Bring on the glamor shots.
Recipe 1:
Damaged hair - 1 Egg Yolk, 2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil, 1 Tbsp. Honey
Double recipe for long hair. Combine ingredients in a blender or whisk ingredients together until well-blended. Apply the mask evenly throughout damp hair, making sure to cover damaged ends. If you have long hair, tie it up. Then, cover hair with a shower cap or towel and let the mask sit for 30 minutes. Wash out the mask with shampoo and conditioner. For best results, apply the mask once weekly.
^ From Buzzfeed
Recipe 2:
Dry Hair - 1 tsp olive oil, 1 Tbsp honey, ¼ cup yogurt
Mix the ingredients well. Apply to damp hair, and allow to sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and wash your hair, and allow to dry as normal.

The idea of using honey on my hair scares me but we all must take risks in the name of hair. Can’t wait!

10 Most Ridiculous/Uncomfortable things that happened to me at work.
I wish I could make these things up, unfortunately here we go:
1. I have been sneezed on way too many times. It happens I get it, but these people just let unleash it on me. I am a huge germaphobe so it takes everything in me not to want to drown myself in bleach after. I cannot give you a solid answer as to why a germaphobe would choose to be a shampoo girl but there are worse things I could be...
2. The amount of moms that try to set me up with their sons and worse is the amount of 50+ year old men that ask for my number. My coworkers find this hilarious because I am surprised every time. There is nothing more awkward than having to turn someone down right before they tip you.
3. A woman comes in every summer and decides to try and shampoo herself in the sink. I thought I saw it all until I saw this woman. Every summer from May to September we have this client come in once a week to get her hair blown out. Every week she comes in with a new product for us to use on her thinking that will solve the fact she has a rats nest of hair. She will grab the hose out of my hand and use her other hand to scrub her shampoo. She soaks the room, myself, and other clients when she does this. i have to gently tap her hair with conditioner but i cannot touch it after that because the “water will work it in” when she rinses it. She has no clue what she’s doing but “the clients always right”. The icing on the cake is the pity tip she gives me because “I am a student”.
4. My coworker sat on a clients lap while I was shampooing her. While I am rinsing the client she is giving my worker a massage. I wish I was kidding.
5. Clients have put tips down my shirt, in my back pocket, my waistband of skirts, and in my ponytail. We have a tip jar along with envelopes for a reason.
6. A woman came in and claimed my coworker was trying to kill her. Came in screaming to me at the front desk saying she had severe neck damage and felt her life was threatened. No such event ever happened we have cameras and clients all over to make sure.
7. As an assistant I eat whenever I get a chance and usually only have about 5 mins to do so. One day I power ate a bagel before I had to do a shampoo. A piece of bagel got stuck so I was choking while trying to wash and attempting to play it off like I was fine. I had to stop halfway through and run outside to force the bagel out. Sometimes I wish I would have just left it there and almost died so I could have left early that day.
8. A client decided to talk to me about her sex life with a room full of clients. For the next 3 hours almost every client I washed proceeded to continue that conversation. I had 3 hours of clients going into detail about their sex life. Let that just sink in. I wanted to die.
9. A client didn’t believe me that I was allergic to peanuts. I am deathly allergic. He tried to shove a Reece’s Cup in my mouth while I was shampooing someone. My coworker sprinted over and had to smack it out of his hand because I did not want to open my mouth. Honestly I am mostly pissed off he did not even tip me after he almost killed me.
10. Someone came in asking if we do Brazilian waxes. Before I could finish telling her that we do not she pulled her pants halfway down and proceeded to ask me if I thought she was long enough. My boss let me leave early that day. I have yet to see her since.

Beach Waves - Trend Watch
A new trend that is taking storm is the beach waves. All year we can see this natural fun look being shown off. For myself the look is simple I wash my hair and let Jesus take the wheel. For others this look is not so easily achievable. There are plenty of hair wands, curlers, straighteners and the new ‘beachwaver’ to help even the most helpless at home hair stylist. After this post I will offer links and videos on how to achieve this look with all of these tools. Beach waves look really kicked off with the Victoria Secret Angels having this hair on the runway and in many of their shoots. During my time in the salon we have had many girls come in and ask the stylist to finish their look off with “the beachy look”. A sea salt spray is often used to help keep the hair shape lasting all day with the beach wave look. This is a low maintenance look that if you’re going out will be able to keep up with you. So when you’re swinging your hair back and forth while dancing on top of a bar know your hair is going to stay just as fabulous as you. Slay girl slay. This is also a great hair style for anyone that is using hair extensions. This is a style that will hold easily along with continuously looking natural with your extensions regardless of the weather. I know during my experience with hair extensions the weather was either my best friend or my worst enemy; therefore this became my go to style. The natural waved look makes blending of hair so much more simple because you avoid the blunt edges. If your hair pops through the extensions you will not see the tracks since its such a messy look.

Final Wella Review
Unfortunately I was unable to post on Wednesday due to my roommate and I being too busy with our jobs.
My review: By Wednesday I was taking my time closely evaluating my hair. I noticed there was such an increase in the level of shine that my hair was giving off. By shine I am referring to a healthy gleam that comes off the roots of my hair. When someone highlights their hair often it dries it out, when someone with thin/fine hair like myself highlights it I could potentially cause a “hair-pacolypse” of damage. Having that shine in my hair is so important to me for that reason. On Wednesday it took me about 2 mins to brush out my hair and my WetBrush showed very little hair pulled out. By that point I still had not tried the Wella products against heat. This weekend I fried my hair. I went to town using a straightener and a blow drier. To my surprise my hair ended up not feeling dry or brittle after the use of heat. I do always use a hair heat protectant but everyone knows you can never be too safe with fine hair. The only complaint I could have would be that my hair seemed to be very soft and did not hold volume. For my hot mess of hair I have to use conditioner all over my head which is most likely what caused this along with I avoided using any volumizing products to prevent a skew of the results. I wash my hair everyday which also plays a roll in this as well. Overall I would give this a 9/10 for a shampoo and conditioner line. The line has two types of shampoo and conditioner. This is for fine/normal hair and normal/course hair. If you want to try this I would highly recommend picking up one of the smaller bottles from ulta and giving it a go.
Roomy: Wednesday night she had a hot date in the city, she had to get ready and go right after work. She is a full time nanny which means she can come out of work as a hot mess depending on how her day is with a 3 and 5 year old. Her switch from basic brand to salon brand hair care has been blissful for her. The scent that my first review raved of lasts all day so she felt a lot more clean and was having a healthy shine to her hair for the first time. Her thick hair seemed to be much more manageable and air drying less frizzy than normal for her. The real test came about this weekend for her when she went up to Penn State. She used heat both nights up there and felt as if she was “slayed” her look by having great hair. Her hair was able to last through the bar scene that is Penn State. She does not use any additional products so her hair seemed to last a lot longer than mine volume wise. Her final opinion when it came to the overall care of her hair it showed so many positive results that she plans on purchasing this brand from now on. The rating she gives is a 10/10 and totally worth the money.

Day 1: Wella Review
Wow oh wow. First things first; the smell of this shampoo and conditioner is beautiful. Its a mix of a clean smell and a floral scent. The scent only further expands as you lather the shampoo in your hair. The conditioner does not have the same powerful scent as the shampoo but it is still strong and just as lovely. By the end of your hot shower the smell will fill your bathroom with a beautiful relaxing scent. So if you’re worried about smelling great I can promise you this would work. Today is a Sunday so no heat was used on my hair after the shower but brushing my hair seemed easier than normal with the conditioner I was able to use my fingers to run through my hair, I noticed using my wet brush it took about 2 minutes to brush through my mane of hair over the 4 minutes (my hair was in double braids before the shower so I will take in the fact my hair was not too knotty into consideration).
My roommates review: her review of the scent was on complete agreement with my prior statement. Before she had been using an unscented shampoo and conditioner and according to her using this shampoo made her feel as if she smelled like “rainbows and butterflies”. Simply adorable, right? She noticed the lather was pretty large and that she used more than she expected. From being a shampoo girl I know the typical amounts of shampoo and conditioner my hair needs depending the ingredients. The shampoo she was using prior was a sulfate free therefore the lather was very small amount and she felt as if she needed about the size of 2.5 quarters (as in the coins). When using that amount of shampoo she felt as if she could get suds the size of George Washington’s powdered wig. The conditioner ran through her fingers nicely in the shower as well. She recorded that it took her about the same amount of time to brush through her hair as it normally does (4-5 mins) but she felt as if less came out - meaning she was having less hair come out in tangles. Unfortunately since I did not think to clean my brush prior I cannot report a similar stat but on Wednesday I will make sure to record my thoughts on this. Overall we are enjoying this.
Until Wednesday!

Care for Your Hair
This weeks experiment will be using a new line of Shampoo and Conditioner. My roommate and I will be using the Wella Brilliance line for fine to normal hair. Both of us have recently gotten our hair colored and highlighted so the amount of damage done to our hair is quiet substantial. My hair is long and fine therefore it tangles easily but is made worse after a coloring treatment. My roommate has shoulder length hair that is thicker but not totally corse. Today was the first day that we have tried it. I will continue using this for 7 days with a follow up half way through the 7 days.

Introduction!
Hi! I’m Rachel, I have worked at a hair salon now for almost 4 years. I have had no prior cosmetology experience so everything I have learned is from my time in the salon. The salon I work at is a small family owned business in Pennsylvania. Beauty has always been an important aspect of my life due to my issues with self image along with extreme sensitivity to products. This blog will be dedicated to stories from my time in the salon, reviews, do it yourself projects, and finally the most current hair trends. Until then!
