one-on-one feedback after break
I asked Katie for some suggestions for the layout for the different styles of shophouses as the layout/structure across the six pages are exactly the same and she suggested to add images (shophouse images, busy street, close up of a part of the shophouse).
She also suggested to find images on unsplash or to buy stock images.
Katie asked if I knew about the 3 different dashes as she mentioned that I used the wrong dash and the dash I suppose to use is the en dash.
She told me to 'upsize' the illustration of the shophouses and downsize the text that is below as the main highlight is the illustration.

Saving places on the map to give me an idea of the range? I would need to cover when making the map on illustrator.

walking map paper folding
For the walking map I have decided to make it A3 size and it would be folded into A5 size to match the other two zines. The design style for the map would be similar to the other two zines (illustrative) where on the front there will be a map with pin point locations and the illustrations of the place and on the other side would be images and address and the description on the place. formative feedback
The building illustrations and patterns are working well — this is one of your strengths, so ensure that the rest of the design enables you to showcase the illustrative elements. This might mean that type and layout is kept simple so that they are secondary to the illustrations. It was great to see the design decisions behind the colour palette. How can you apply the same thinking to the typography and layout, or the size of the book? Are you just choosing A5 because it is a standard size? Please watch Nigel French ‘On Typography 1 & 2’ on LinkedIn Learning to expand your knowledge and skills in layout and typography. This is particularly important for publication design. Remember to be consistent in your line weights throughout your publication. The patterns are good — how can they be used more decoratively in the publication as endpapers or chapter titles? Remember to update your blog regularly with your process, remembering to photograph your process at each stage and write reflections on each post. It’s a good start but there is still a lot of work to be done — time to start doing the mahi!
