If you have seen the Karate Kid of 1984, Daniel LaRusso gets injured during his fight with Johnny Lawrence. He gets brought back to the locker room and laying supine in pain with the Karate master Mr Miyagi. Now, Daniel wants to win the fight but his leg experience excruciating pain.
Mr Miyagi claps his hands together and starts healing Daniel so that he can fight back. So, now you do understand how different types of martial arts have their roots to Reiki. Of course, we do not know if Miyagi's healing hand technique is Reiki, but it does show the relationship between the ancient healing practice and martial artists role.

Mikao Usui, Reiki founder and his martial arts roots
Mikao Usui founded Reiki around the 1920s. Usui's ancestors were from China and Hatamoto samurai, a warrior class of ancient Japan, whose duties were to defend royalty and other nobilities. As a part of the samurai clan, Usui got trained under the martial arts custom of his family, which opened him to the understanding of Reiki.
