New Orleans 2023

It’s always good to finish sketches from a previous trip before heading out on another one. These are from a trip with friends last November. We wandered the city of New Orleans for four days and had a great time seeing the sites, listening to music and eating fantastic food. NOLA is on my “places to return to” list, for sure.

Retirement…so far so good!

One of the first commitments I made to myself when I got close to retirement on December 1, 2023 was to develop a consistent watercolor sketching practice. Catching Up It has been a while since I have posted, and I have quite a few sketches to upload.

Today I decided to venture into online marketing…just for the fun of it. I am a total novice, so we will see how it goes. I uploaded a bunch of my art to Redbubble. I have alot more to upload, but I thought I would give it a start. They make all kinds of gifts with printed images: t-shirts, mugs, greeting cards, phone cases, pillows, etc. Who knows – a new career could be in the making! Journal #2 Complete! I can't believe I filled this journal in less than a year. I liked the portrait format, but not the softcover.

More Hydrangeas Now that I've grown tired of coneflowers, hydrangeas are my next subject to exhaust. I'm enjoying trying to get the colors of the petals accurate.

Hydrandeas for a change of pace I've grown a bit tired of painting coneflowers. The hydrangeas have grown into such a beautiful blue violet I thought I'd give them a whirl. I do love the softness of cobalt blue!

Coneflowers have taken over All I have been sketching is the garden filled with coneflowers. Different green mixes, different unpleasant mixes, and different styles. And each day there are more blooms!

Coneflowers are taking over! Every time I look at the garden there are more blossoms among the coneflowers. They are so pretty!

Stay-cation in the Garden I can't recall how long it's been since the last time I had time off from work in the summer and stayed home.

Blessing and Curse I was originally scheduled to be on vacation in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica for a couple of weeks beginning Monday. A knee injury has me grounded and working on my sketches to instead. That doesn't stop me from thinking about it, though!

Back in the Garden In my quest for the minimal palette, I decided to swap out a couple of semi-transparent colors for transparent.
