Currently writing Bea-ing a Sister. I also shamelessly reblog Pokémon Sword and Shield content

I can't believe staff deleted all of their initial @/postplus blog posts and just pretended that the survey and the encouragement-of-illegal-fanfic-monetization backlash never happened. As if they don't know how their own site works?? As if those now-deleted posts aren't still floating around in 100,000 different reblog chains and even more mocking screenshots?? As if we, the gremlin userbase of this hellsite would ever forget how they initially approached the whole mess???

I expect that even if their roles as Gym Leaders are version-exclusive, Allister and Bea themselves won't be and will probably know each other, like Drayden and Iris or Soliera/Phyco and Zossie/Dulse.
I can see Bea being a protective, cool big sister to the shy and easily-spooked Allister. If anyone is mean to him and she overhears, they can expect a flying kick straight to the face.

Let’s Talk About Charging for Fanfiction
I’m gonna take a moment to remind my fellow writers about the seriousness of copyright law. This is a reminder for younger writers who weren’t around for the Anne Rice debacle and for the older writers (ages 25 and up) who carry on blissfully shirking their legal responsibilities.
Regardless of how you feel about copyright law and who it’s meant to protect (individual authors or big corporations), you do real harm by charging for fanfiction. For my visual artist friends, you also do real harm by doing commissioned fan art, too. None of us content creators want to hear this. I don’t want to hear it because I love buying fanart and I would love to make money off of my fanfiction.
“Why don’t you then?” I hear you ask.
“It’s quite simple.,” I answer. “Because I’m not a jerk.”
If that seems harsh, it’s because I meant it to be. I want you to think outside yourself and your own interests for just a moment.
I hear you asking, “How am I, who is only one little fanfiction writer, going to do so much harm? I’m only charging a couple dollars on Patreon for people to have access to the fics I post for free on Tumblr.”
First of all, you shouldn’t be charging for something that’s available for free elsewhere. That’s kinda shitty, man.
Second of all, who do you think the big evil corporations are going to go after in their lawsuits? Not you. Companies and their lawyers know you don’t have any money, even if you’re illegally charging your patrons for access to your fanfics. The copyright holders are going to file DMCA Take Down Notices against you and then file larger scale and more damaging lawsuits against the sites hosting your work. You are one of many and when a copyright holder finds a hundred or more fic writers on Patreon violating Patreon’s Terms of Service, they are going to sue Patreon for allowing rampant copyright infringement.
The worst case outcome in this scenario? Patreon has to shut down and potentially thousands of creators will be left without an income.
This is an extreme example, I know. What’s more likely to happen is something similar to the Livejournal and fanfiction.net purges of yesteryear. Creators would be driven off the site simply because the user base will dwindle and it won’t be fiscally sound to keep using Patreon to share their original work.
I can feel you resisting this line of thinking. It is very Slippery Slope, I know. But take a moment a look inside yourself. You love fanfiction. You love writing it. You love the characters from your favorite show, movie, and manga. So do I.
But consider this: They are not your characters. I fully support you playing with these characters and placing them in situations they don’t experience in the canon material. It’s fun. It’s often cathartic. But those characters don’t belong to you.
Now, what happens if the worst case scenario with Patreon happens and the site is shut down because of multiple instances of copyright infringement among it’s user base? It doesn’t just impact fanfiction writers and fan artists. It directly impacts the livelihoods of original content creators.
There are so many independent authors, artists, film makers, and other creators that use Patreon as a means to fund their work. If the site shuts down, or becomes unusable because of a purge, what happens to them? You will likely disagree with me, but by shirking your responsibility to adhere to copyright laws, you are harming the independent creators you claim to support.
Is your desire to be paid for derivative work so important to you that you would even risk causing that level of harm to others?
All of this is true of putting a Kofi or Patreon link in your AO3 and Fic Writing Tumblr bio, too.
You can hem and haw and moan and groan all you like about how people like me are traitors to our fellow creators; that I am part of the problem. I need you to take a few moments, breathe, and think before reacting. I am saying fanfiction should remain free for the time being.
I can hear you shouting, “I should be allowed to monetize my passion!”
Yes, you should. But if your only passion is to use other creators’ original work for your personal monetary gain, then I think you should invest some time if finding additional passions. I don’t mean that to sound cruel. I genuinely believe everyone should have multiple passions.
If you’ve made it this far I want you to know one more thing: I feel very strongly that legality does not equal morality. There are a lot of things about copyright law that I feel should change. But I can guarantee you, charging people to read your derivative fan works and calling yourself a revolutionary is not going to affect that change.

Hi, I was out of the Pokémon fandom for a bit but I always held your fics close to my heart. I have to say, you’re probably my favorite Pokémon author and coming back and seeing your fics again was just, it brought me so much happiness.
I don’t think there will ever be a day where I am worthy of a comment like this. Yet I will try my best to live up to it!
Thank you, I’m glad to have made your life a little more interesting ^_^

Bea-ing a Sister Chapter 16: A Thorn in the Stow-on-Side
Promotional artwork, baby! I have one eye and depth is meaningless but I refuse to be stopped. Also backgrounds are hard.
I barely ever get the chance to do artwork, but I set the time aside for this ^_^
The new chapter will be up soon, and about time too!

what if Allister is the Clark Kent of Galar? like-
Allister: maskless, walking down a street in full Gym Leader Uniform with his gengar, both enjoying an ice cream, just being a child
People: ah yes, a Perfectly Normal Little Boy and his pokemon friend. So cute :)
Allister: finishes eating, puts on mask
People: ALLISTER THE GYM LEADER?!?

This is absolutely worth a reblog. People love to give Whedon a pass because ‘Buffy Good lol’ but it’s important not to put people on a plinth. I saw the Joss Whedon school of feminism described as ‘Tiny white girl punches stuff’ and I burst out laughing. Then I cried a little because it’s true.
Women: “Hey, can we hire fewer blatant misogynists to direct and create media? We’d support that.”
Nerdy Male Director: “Well-spoken. Have you considered hiring me, a man who is afraid of women?”

A very worthy reblog ^_^
Just a small stroll through the Glimwood Tangle with a baby Allister.
I had just sudden inspiration to draw Allister as a baby and just… this happened… I am actually kinda proud of this considering I am absolutely horrible with backgrounds and well pretty much everything. Probably doesn’t help that I find this cute to soooooo that 100% does not help with me being proud of this.

Oh how wonderful!! Y’know it’s funny, but that drawing of Bea and Allister’s house is scarily accurate to some concept art I drew when I first started writing Beaing a Sister! Right down to Bea and Hitmontop’s positioning and the staircase in the background ^_^ great minds clearly think alike!
I’m honoured, the bottom picture is as blursed as it is great!
Went digging through some of my early 2020 art- I found so much that I wouldn’t have considered significant at the time that, looking back on, I actually really enjoy!
A shameless plug for @quite-a-sketchione, with undoubtedly more to come. I had just re-read their wonderful Bea-ing a Sister- this was my interpretation of the very first scene and chapter, if I recall. Aside from the wonderful character portrayals and heartwarming interactions, I actually really like the setting, and being able to interpret what the interior layout of the house might look like.
Will likely be posting more forgotten artwork soon, as well as new projects. I’m also working on a fanfiction of my own under the username Shrimp_Scampidimp, which I’m incredibly excited about. Stay tuned!
BONUS: this absolute masterpiece I edited from a very blursed WikiHow image.
