"What happened to the rest of them?" Whatever it was, it couldn't have been pretty to only have left a foot behind. "I don't know. Maybe...make sure their toes are polished?" Not her best solution, but post-mortem was Jamie's expertise: Quinn was very happy to focus on those who were still with them and...appendaged. "Right or left foot?"
@quinn-barnett
"yo," jamie said, quickly making her way to quinn, a red cooler in one hand that had a biohazard sticker on it. "they gave me a fucking... foot!" she whisper-yelled. "what the fuck am i supposed to do with it, toss it in her casket during her viewing? jesus christ... my dad didn't train me to know how to handle appendages that aren't appendaged to our departed souls."

Being the friend in question had the hospital's security turning to look at Quinn disapprovingly. A quick flash of an apologetic smile is offered, turned more to a grimace as she glances at Murphy's hobbling form coming towards her. "Why don't we go take a seat, Murph, and I'll get you wheeled over somewhere a little more comfortable?" This seemed to please the guard enough, though they were barely out of an ear shot before Murphy's parting quip sounded.
Quinn's free hand lifted to stifle her laughter, the other looping around Murphy's own to guide her to the wheelchair. "A very astute observation. Dr. Murphy. I'll take that under advisement."
Once she was settled, and out of security range, Quinn sighed, "they're going to ban you one of these days, you know." An empty threat, but one made nonetheless. "How'd we end up here this time?"
starter for @quinn-barnett
Murphy couldn't help but roll her eyes at the security escorting back in the waiting room where she was told to sit at after accidentally stepping on a shard of glass. "Can you leave me now? My friend is here." She points to Quinn and then gives him a look. "I didn't know there was a rule about wandering around on a chair just in the hall." She limps towards quinn and scoffs. "He has a stick up his ass, he might need your help removing it later."

"I don't know. Do you require an actual ride home or can I just telepathically drive you?" Though, there were little his words, verbal or telepathically communicated, could do to comfort Quinn from the horrors she had just witnessed--and on nearly two days with very minimal sleep. "You wouldn't be saying that to me if Mr. Saxe had insisted on asking you what you thought about every mole he has on his," very wrinkly, "body." She could still see it when she closed her eyes, the horror.
Quinn stared up at the slates of the top bunk, as if willing them to snap and collapse on top of her. "Please," she snorted, foot coming up to kick at the bottom of Rocky's mattress. "Even then, I'd still be able run circles around your running subcuticulars."
Rocky doesn't bother to open his eyes or lift his head from the pillow when the door is pushed open, barely registering Quinn's voice as the door closes behind her. "Hmm?" He grumbles, hovering somewhere between consciousness and fatigue. "Does that require an actual answer or can I telepathically comfort you?" He groans, rolling over onto his stomach, barely managing to prop himself up on his elbows. "What's a scalpel?" He asked dryly. "Please don't gouge your eyes out, I currently don't have the energy to be the lone caretaker of my blind roommate."

"How many sponge baths can one man possibly need?" The door to the on-call room clicked shut behind her, Quinn's body dropping unceremoniously onto the lower mattress of the bunk bed beneath Rocky's. "The closest I've come to even touching a scalpel today has been resisting the urge gouge my own eyes out."

FAMILY.
mother: dr. scarlett maddox
father: lloyd barnett
TL;DR.
though born in seattle, quinn maddox's earliest memories of the city would consist solely of the summertime, which she spent every year up until the age of sixteen with her father, a local clinicial college professor
it was through teaching that lloyd barnett had met his future wife, scarlett maddox--top student in her med school class, and the first person to make sure you knew it too
a love affair ensued, but most likely would not have ended in a marriage, if not for scarlett falling pregnant at the end of her second year, giving birth to their daughter, quinn, in the middle of her clinical rotations
the two were divorced by the time quinn was just two, and scarlett was matched with her top choice residency program across the country in maryland, where mother and daughter promptly moved to
if you asked quinn, she'd tell you that she practically grew up inside an operating room, had never a doubt in her mind about what it was she was going to grow up to do, especially as her mother's name began to draw traction in the surgical world
she followed (almost) exactly in her mother's footsteps--top of her class from high school to college to medical school, matched with her first choice residency program, even fell in love with someone who she felt truly understood her and her ambitions, enough so that a ring was placed on her finger...everything that she'd planned for, coming true
but like most dreams, it seemed that quinn's had been too good to be true when it was discovered that her mother had been involved in falsifying positive results on a clinical trial in order to receive government funding
before quinn could even have time to process the potential consequences for her mother's, her idol's, actions (whispers of prison time, the loss of her medical license), backlash had begun to strike her--at first, isolation from her fellow interns, followed by snide comments, complaints made to the hospital, even patients beginning to refuse her care
quinn ended up dropping out at the beginning of her second year, breaking off her engagement and getting out of baltimore, which had suddenly begun to feel as if it were closing in on her
spent the last year traveling, actively avoiding the news (and her mother's phone calls)...but medicine was her calling, and her time away from it only made that all the more clear
applied to and was accepted to seattle central hospital's residency program almost a year ago, repeating her intern year underneath a new name (quinn barnett, her father's last name) in hopes of avoiding any judgement on her mother's behalf
