Back when I went to Fort Wayne around Thanksgiving, I took my second trip to Sweetwater, a huge musical instrument store, with my dad and brother. As I was looking around, I was looking for something that I saw the first time I went to Sweetwater. When I first went there, they had what’s called Drum Fest. My dad and brother are drummers, so of course we were going to go to that!
I noticed some small steel tongue drums that were on sale. I tried them out and really liked them. But I didn’t get one. So when I went back to Sweetwater, I looked for them. But I couldn’t find them. I told my dad about them and how I wished I could get one. I don’t play any instruments, though I wish I could. I thought maybe a steel tongue drum would be good for someone like me who has no experience.
Fast forward to today. Actually, let me back up a little bit. On Monday, when I returned to work, I was feeling fine. But one of our two, small walk-in freezers, which had been down for a few months, was finally fixed and validated to use again. I ended up moving most of the products that had to go into that freezer. I wore a coat and thick gloves, and I thought I would be fine. But at one point my chest started hurting. I was reminded of when I had pneumonia back in August 2021 and how it affected my lungs, especially my right lung. I thought, “Oh no.” That night I started coughing and my throat started feeling weird.
I worked on Christmas Eve, and felt really rough. At one point my body had chills, and later I was sweating like crazy. But I didn’t go home. I kept working. And I signed up to work on Christmas Day. So I had to go in on Wednesday. I thought I was feeling somewhat better that day. But when I went to bed, I started having chills again, and I was coughing up congestion pretty hard.
Yesterday morning, I went to urgent care. They tested me for COVID, strep, and flu. They all came back negative. The PA told me that I either had an upper respiratory infection or bronchitis. My After Visit Summary says bronchitis. He prescribed a couple of medicines which I picked up from the pharmacy. I texted my supervisor a doctor’s note to take the day off. The note asked to excuse me from work yesterday, but I could return to work immediately.
This morning, I was coughing up congestion so hard that I vomited. I called urgent care to send me another doctor’s note. I texted it to my supervisor and took today off as well. I don’t work weekends, so I won’t go back to work till Monday.
Despite all of this, my Christmas gift from my dad and stepmom finally arrived today. And here it is. A steel tongue drum! A large one! Thanks to my dad and stepmom! ❤️

I haven’t really made any art in quite some time. I decided to mess around with some markers and do neurographic art inspired by outer space. Gotta restart somewhere. I think I’ll just call this one “Cosmos.”

Our lives are NOT over. The reality of the next few years is looking bad and we are dealing with a threat we have never experienced, but we have cities and states protecting your rights. We have a slow moving government and inevitable lawsuits, the division of state and federal, a very large diverse and dense country, and a digitally connected and educated (mostly) populace that is not helpless. And we have an entire globe impacted by and invested in our wellbeing. He may have won, but that doesn’t mean their entire agenda is happening, or will be able to happen at all.
We will grieve, we will be enraged, we will be scared, and we will continue to stay hopeful, grounded, and fight for our future.

Hey
Hey Americans.
The federal government is about to get useless for at least a bit. This is a GREAT time to get involved in state level environmental orgs. That's where you're gonna be able to do the most for the next few years. Even a bit of casual volunteering can make a big difference.
I've done this off and on for years and when we go local we WIN. And friends winning feels good. This is how a lot of progressive agendas have won in this country. The whole US isn't out of this. People ARE still fighting climate change all around you.
You could be one of those people, in community with other people who are doing something.
doom and gloom "oooh everything is pointless oooh I'm so deep and edgy because I love trying to be the death of hope" people will just get blocked. I'm not talking to your crab-bucket ass.

i think a lot of liberals need to confront the fact that they don’t actually believe everyone should have basic human rights. a homeless person could call me every slur under the sun and i would still want them to have housing, food, etc. the belief that everyone is entitled to basic human rights should not hinge on whether you “like” someone or not. at that point the entire ideology crumbles.
