I feel like the reason as to why many therians (mainly on apps such as TikTok) exclude those who identify as animals more strongly, or are fully animals, is because of their inherent belief which is basically "human > animal". From birth, they have been taught that man is above animal, and that reducing oneself to an animal is inherently portraying yourself as less. Many of them, consciously or not, believe that it is an insult to refer to others as animals, and still regain big portions of their humanity—just because, in the end, they believe that animals are lesser in intelligence than man, therefore considering yourself an animal is making oneself lesser than human, therefore inferior. Of course, I do not share that belief. As an animal, I hold the opinion that we are all equal on Earth's soil. It doesn't matter who dominates—as land can't be owned by any being. I wholeheartedly disagree with things like "human superiority" or the belief that "man was meant to rule the Earth". Of course, humans are animals too. However, over the years of evolution, they have separated themselves from the labels of "animals" and "mammals"—because they believed themselves to be above those. And, that brings us to why many therians, young or not, look down on those who identify more strongly as animals, or are completely animals. In the end, they may feel some superiority over those beings, because they think that since they're still human, they are the superior beings. Of course, that is all merely speculation—still, even if their lack of acceptance is due to not being educated on the matter, it still comes down to the belief that other humans have ingrained in them. That "man is superior to animal". It's a belief that has been drilled into the minds of humans for generations, therefore separating them from a connection with animals, and the connection with Earth herself. They subconsciously look down on animals, and those who identify as animals on a deeper level. It's a sad thing, since now many humans are beyond saving—as many have completely turned on mother earth, and are now destroying her.
I do hope that at some point, humanity will open their eyes, and realize that we are all as sacred as the soil—thus proving that "inferiority" and "superiority" doesn't exist in terms of who should be allowed to roam the earth, and who should perish. Of course, humans still remain on top of the food chain, since in the end one thing that is natural is the existence of predators and prey. However, humanity has exploited their own capabilities, turning their role as a natural predator into the role of artificial destroyers, those who barely follow the laws of nature anymore.
Hopefully, those who hold all the control will be eradicated, and humanity will once again reunite with mother Earth. I am happy seeing so many people take actions nowadays, helping the planet to the best of their abilities. It gives me a light of hope.
Please, if you are a human, do go out once in a while. Pick up some trash, and gaze at the sun. Breathe in the air, and realize that as long as you love and care for her, mother Earth will love and care for you as well. On the planet's soil we are all equal.

I’m not as vocal in the community as I once was, but I feel compelled to share this. If you identify as alterhuman, it’s equally important to embrace both the aspects of the experience that align with societal norms and those that might seem strange or unconventional.
The ongoing debates about what is considered “normal” in human society—and using that as a standard to gatekeep alterhuman experiences—baffles me.
This is your own community that you’re undermining—a minority group of those who already somewhat exist outside the boundaries of human norms, yet you, as a fellow alterhuman, are filtering their experiences through a rigidly human perspective.
If you’re alterhuman but unwilling or uncomfortable to explore or express its full complexity, that’s your choice. However, it’s unfair to project that choice onto others who are open and willing to engage with every facet of their identity.
It takes deep introspection and courage to reflect on these things, come to terms with them, and actively share them with others. Without this process, our community wouldn’t be what it is today.
Pushing your insecurities onto others and shaming them for embracing the difficult parts of themselves that you’ve chosen to avoid is deeply harmful to the community. It’s 2024; we should be progressing, not regressing.
If someone is being genuine about their truth and isn’t causing harm to themselves or others, they shouldn’t be shamed for their alterhuman experiences. Life isn’t a flawless, polished narrative—it’s messy, chaotic, and sometimes uncomfortable. But that’s what makes it so profoundly and beautifully complex.

We attempt not to eat an entire packet of wafers trying to fill the empty feeling that could be hunger or anxiety!! Either way the wafers won't work!!!

Why do I not have little paws and a snout? Or fur and a waggy little tail? where is my momma and the rest of my littermates?? where’s the milk, and the gentle nips, and the warm cuddling piles, and growing into strong dogs with my siblings? Where’s chasing squirrels and rolling around in dirt and sniffing everything unique scent :( it’s not fair.
It’s not fair.

(Non)Humanity and Species Dysphoria: the Forced Transformation Trope
Written by Gavin on August 25, 2024.
As a nonhuman, do you ever think about why there's so many stories and myths and legends about humans being turned into animals? You ever wonder why it's usually a punishment or a curse, or why the characters try to do whatever it takes to become human again? You ever think, "I don't understand, I would love to be an animal and get rid of my human body, what's the problem?"
As a human myself, one whose system has been in the alterhuman community for years, I hope I can help bridge the gap of understanding here.
The way many humans see being turned into an animal as a curse, the way they'd be incredibly distressed about becoming nonhuman?
That is species dysphoria.
That is a human experiencing species dysphoria, because being perceived as nonhuman or other-than-human causes the exact same feelings of pain and wrongness and disconnection from their body that a nonhuman can experience when perceived as human.
(Particularly, this might be an orthohuman, someone who has a normative relationship with their human cultural and species identity, as opposed to an alterhuman, who experiences alternative/nonnormative humanity or a species identity separate from humanity. Human alterhumans can also experience this sort of species dysphoria - hi, I'm one of them.)
Imagine being your species your entire life, the way you know you're intended to be, living in a body you're comfortable in - and then having that body ripped away from you. Being forced to live in a form that doesn't match who you are, what you know you are, and desperately wanting to find a way to change back because you know you're not meant to be like this.
If this sounds familiar because it's what you experience as a nonhuman - that is how a lot of human beings feel about being transformed into something nonhuman. It's the feeling of being the wrong species! It's the desire to return to the form that you know as yourself!
The fact that orthohumans are born into the species they identify as does not mean that they could never comprehend your nonhuman experience. You can explain your nonhuman species dysphoria to an orthohuman. Given all the examples of unwanted transformation stories throughout human history, I think you're likely to find that they'll understand when you put it in that frame of reference.
"How would you feel about being turned into another species against your will, leaving behind everything that feels good and right and comfortable about your human body? That sounds horrible, right? That's how I feel, being nonhuman in a human body, and it's distressing in the same way you would hate being human and stuck in a nonhuman body."
I know that the gap between humanity and nonhumanity looks enormous. The horror of, say, werewolf mythology looks like a completely alien experience when you are a wolf, so you see being transformed into a wolf as nothing short of a wonderful experience, and you don't understand why anyone would see it as horrifying.
But if you understand that it's not about the species, but the experience of species dysphoria, of being trapped in a body that has never been yours and desperately trying to return to one that feels like you, well - that's a lot more understandable, isn't it?
Humanity and nonhumanity are not two opposite ends of a binary, destined to never understand each other. I know many alterhumans who are both human and nonhuman, and their humanity is an identity in much the same way as their nonhumanity. Humans are just another species on this planet, as bipedal tool-using social primates, and we have our species identities just like many nonhumans. You are not as alone in this world as you might think you are.
There is room for understanding and connection. Your experiences as nonhuman are not purely individual, not wholly unique, not utterly incomprehensible to human beings, and this is a good thing. The gap isn't actually as wide as it seems. You can reach out and cross it if you just remember - you have far more in common than you might think.

Thank you! I will use this, it's brilliant!
I'm going to be doing a presentation on alterhuanity in February, and my section on species dysphoria is... Very lacking.
If anyone has any suggestions of how to describe what it feels like, or any experiences of your own with it, please reply, reblog or message me!

They're brilliant! They came charged, the covers are good quality, instructions are easy to understand. There are a good variety of movements built in, and you can choose triggers like head movement triggers ear movements. The headband is comfy as it is wide
They do make quite a bit of noise when they move, and they don't move quite as quickly as I would ideally like, but still quick enough.
Overall they are very good, the only limitations are that they are a little loud for me, so I couldn't wear them all the time.
I'm so happy!
My parents got me loads of paw socks (without me even asking!!!)
And I got eargear! The moving ears from the tail company! I asked for them for my bday but they said it was too expensive, so I really wasn't expecting it!!!!!

I always have a really messy room in winter cos a clean room just looks... Wrong. Like of course it won't be warm if it's big and bare!
Any other therians getting really strong denning urges as winter gets nearer? I am also unconsciously keeping my room colder at night. i feel like i should be curled in a den with my cubs

Made some nonhuman related flag(s).
We don't have a name for them as a term or anything. If anyone can think of a good name for it, then feel free to reblog with said name/term.
We do have a definition for what we want the flag(s) to mean.
The definition is: Beings that are nonhuman/not human fully, even when the body they are in is human. (This can be described in different ways).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We tried to kind of make it based a bit off of nature (greens and browns mainly).
- Shay (They/it) 🐾
Edit: These are free to use! Credit is appreciated but not required! Also, feel free to make alternative versions of these flags!

i think tumblr needs to see this one too. (also rare chrome non aac voice jumpscare but this video was back from april when i didnt need my aac as much as i do now)
transcript: “hey guys. today i’m going to bring up more of a personal topic. i get a lot of comments about my weight, all of which are negative. it makes me angry. no one should be put down for the way their body looks. you see, i could tell you that i’m fat because im on a medication that makes me gain weight, and that the options are, i would rather be on this medication and be alive and well or not be on the medication and be dead, but i think that's a no brainer. and it doesnt matter anyway. cause you guys have already made the assumption that being fat is a bad thing, and being skinny is a good thing. so i can yap all i want about my medical history, but it doesnt matter, because you guys have already made the assumption that being fat is a morally negative thing. in order for us to be kind to each other we have to completely dismantle this assumption. being fat is morally neutral, its totally ok. the only thing we can judge others for is the action of hurting others. my being fat isnt hurting you. and also, it isnt hurting me! you aren't my doctor, you dont know whats best for me. so with peace and love, shut the fuck up" end transcript.
