I think writing Conditional Iteration affected my brain in a very specific way, which is that I now think of "we will collect orange pips from these oranges we share together (the oranges are a symbol of our friendship) on every single loop, in the hopes that when we finally escape the time loop we can grow a little orange tree (the tree is a symbol of our slightly codependent developing queerplatonic bond and our found family)" is just like. a regular standard sub-trope of the time loop genre. Whereas in reality it's definitely not, it's just a really specific thing that I came up with for that fic

when you think about it jack harkness is a stranger to everybody he meets. the doctor, ianto, gwen, even his own daughter. even the audience. we don't even know his real name, we don't know all the places hes been to or all the things hes done. hes a stranger to everyone. hes probably even a stranger to himself

thinking about how. deeply at his core jack can never stop loving ever ever ever and how much endless love he has for anyone hes ever cared about. how jack can't ever stop forgiving everyone. the doctor abandons him and tells him so and runs away from him and tells him hes wrong and shouldnt exist. and jack waits nearly 150 years to find him again and he defends him from the futurekind and pulls him back from falling into the belly of the ship and breaks her out of prison and bails them out with the vortex manipulator and gets killed a billion times to save him and comes back again and again. gwen hits him owen hits him ianto hits him and much worse. and he forgives gwen. and he forgives owen. and he forgives ianto. the way he says "i missed you" to gwen at the beginning of immortal sins. the way the face of boe tells the doctor that he isnt alone.

still making my way through rtd's non-doctor-who work. currently at mine all mine which is from 2004. one character says to another character "you should meet ianto." i (not welsh) (never been to wales) (only know like one welsh person) am like "oh ha ha like ianto from torchwood?" and then immediately shut that down like "ianto is probably a very common welsh name, the fact that my mind immediately goes to ianto from torchwood is just a sign of my ignorance/lack of interaction with welsh people." character shows up to meet ianto.
