The two best reasons to ship anything are:

The parallels that seem to hit just right, the narrative foils that they can be to each other, the intricate dynamic that's both extremely complex and easily understood. In the end both sides will be together forever, and you as an audience can clearly see their tragedy laid out before in a path that blurs pure anguish and tender romance

stan and ford are so in love with eachother it’s actually insane. oh my god.

what do you mean stan molded his life around ford. he grew up planning to be with ford forever. even while they were estranged he still thought about ford enough for him to tape a photo of him and ford onto his car’d headliner. when they first reunited stan said “it was supposed to be you n’ me! forever!” and was heartbroken when ford didn’t want to go sailing around the world with him, even though they were both in their 30s at this point.

and then ford. stan was ford’s only friend for so, so long. and then when they split up, ford resented him, but could never bring himself to hate him. he thought about him so often. he remembered the secret code they came up with as children and encrypted “miss ya bro”. he thinks of stan as charming and charismatic, and, while he can be, he’s generally pretty transparent and can be pretty awkward and dorky. he spent so much of his life trying to replace stan. he got manipulated and then possibly had a romantic relationship with an interdimensional con artist, likely because he reminded ford of stan, to the point where ford mimicked stan’s handwriting when writing down what he said. when there was no one ford could trust, he called stan. he carried around a picture of him and stan as children for over 30 years, even in highly dangerous alternate dimensions where it would’ve been so easy to lose.

and then, when they’re old, they actually do end up achieving their dream, and sail the world together. it’s reasonable to say they lived the rest of their lives together. and i think that’s beautiful
