The Tree

‘No more tears after today,’ I chanted again, but I knew it was a lie which I fed myself everyday. “Loner,” humans would mock me, oblivious of my loyal partner, my solitary solace in this cacophonous life: the cherry tree. “Assassin!” the ones who spoke would sneer, while the mute tree tended to my fractured heart with no words uttered. ‘They’re ignorant people. They don’t know what made you an assassin,’ I would often feel my friend mussitate. Indeed, they weren’t there when my parent’s blood soaked beside my tree and all I could do was witness their eternal departure.
