We realised a bit late that the timing for the Genweek was perhaps not the best. Mid-June is a rather busy time for lot of people, us included.

hey! so first of all thank you so much for organising this event :D as an ace person it’s very very lovely to see from that point of view, but i also just love any and all fandom events!! and uh, i’m aware this is… a slightly unconventional question, so bear with me, but what’s your view on using the prompts for this week to create something using original characters? connection to queen would be tangential at best, unfortunately, which probably makes my prospects somewhat dimmer. if the answer is “yes, but with certain parameters” that’s okay, and it’s even okay if the answer is “no”! i’d just like to know what your stance is before i go making anything :)

Hi anon! Sorry for the late reply, we are delighted to see you enjoying this event and please, by all means, use any and all prompts in however way you wish. We love to inspire even if not for the Queen fandom (also feel free to tag us if u use a prompt, if u like). However, we talked a bit back and forth and decided that in order to keep it fair to the fandom and audience of this event, your work would have to be Queen-related to be part of the collection/for us to reblog. I hope you understand💙 If you are unsure about whether it would count as part of the event, we're always open to help u with it in DMs.

Also, I for one am super curious about how youd use these prompts, so tag or DM us with ur finished story so I can throw a look at it if you want!!! Thank you for the great ask

Queen GenWeek 2023

Attention, Queen enthusiasts across the world: we bring to you Queen GenWeek! We decided it was high time we brought back this event so we can celebrate the enduring friendship between the members of Queen together.

When and where?

The event will take place from Thursday 15 June-Sunday 18 June. You can upload your work on Tumblr using the tag #QueenGenWeek2023 and @queengenweek us. We'll make sure to reblog all contributions with this tag to this blog for an overview! When you post your fanfiction on AO3, please add it to the Queen GenWeek 2023 collection.

What does Gen mean?

Gen, short for “general,” is a term used in fanfic communities to refer to works of fanart that are platonic: they explore bonds of friendship rather than bonds of romance. There may be some form of romance in the background, but the main focus should be on the non-romantic relationship between the characters. Gen fanart celebrates the friendship between characters.

With help from last year's event post, refer to this amazing resource on asexual/aromantic characters and how to give them substance! This is an ASPEC safe space and consciously inclusive.

Who and what is welcome?

Everyone who wants to celebrate the platonic friendships in and around Queen is welcome! All gen-oriented works of art are welcome, which include but are not limited to:

Visual art (traditional or digital)

If you prefer so, you can stay anonymous during the event. Both AO3 and Tumblr have options to post anonymously. You can use this quick guide on how to post anonymously on AO3.
