Attempts to penetrate the fear and ignorance about Islam through television have had mixed results. In Canada, Little Mosque on the Prairie, about a diverse Muslim community that shares its prayer space with an Anglican church in small-town Canada, received strong reviews and is now in its fifth season. In the U.S., however, the CW sitcom Aliens in America, about a white family that hosts an exchange student from Pakistan, also received positive reviews but only lasted one season, after failing to build an audience.
There is no doubt that Muslims stand to benefit from a greater presence in mass media, and one that is not confined to discussions of 9/11 or terrorism, in very much the same way that The Cosby Show was not defined by race. Such a show would have to maintain the delicate balance between example and exception, and navigate the challenges posed by the proliferation of new-media outlets.

On sober second thoughts we decided to improve the color scheme. It’s called lovesick mustard but it’s really more of an emotional yellow.

Oh Rev. Thorne, you crack me up :P
To tell you the truth, after Rev. Magee left the show I didn’t think Thorne could fill his shoes, but this season he’s starting to grow on me.

Canadian Shows You Really REALLY Need to Watch
(these are links to watchseries.lt; I don’t know if the links to each individual episode will work or not. sorry.)
Republic of Doyle: http://watchseries.lt/serie/republic_of_doyle
Father and son private detectives in St John’s, Newfoundland. Simultaneously an homage and parody of old PI shows like Rockford Files (if you are in Canada, all four seasons are available on cbc.ca)
Corner Gas: http://watchseries.lt/serie/corner_gas
Small town Saskatchewan- and when I say small, I mean a population of, like, 50… probably fewer. Centred around Brent’s gas station and the conjoined Ruby Diner run by Torontonian Lacy.
Little Mosque on the Prairie: http://watchseries.lt/serie/little_mosque_on_the_prairie
Small town Saskatchewan. Muslim minority in extremely WASP-ish town has its mosque inside the Anglican church. Lighthearted- at times cheesy (and a bit too cautious)- comedy about cultural differences and tolerance. Satirical portrayal of Christian and Muslim stereotypes. One of the main characters? Anglo-Lebanese Muslim feminist physician (all seasons available on cbc.ca)
Rookie Blue: http://watchseries.lt/serie/rookie_blue
Toronto cops. Basically, it’s your typical cop show but it’s not. It’s Canadian and clever (not that other cop shows aren’t clever) and more character-driven than crime driven. Lots of shots of the Toronto skyline. Keeps the Canadiana to a minimum (but there’s still a whole fucking lot; it’s Toronto for pete’s sake). (current seasons available on abc.com for Americans and globaltv.com for Canadians)
Those are the four big ones. Other shows you should probably check out include Murdoch Mysteries (2008- present; Victorian era detective in Toronto with many tongue-in-cheek references to present day; joint production between Canadian networks and a British network) and Due South (1994-1999; Canadian mountie at the Canadian consulate in Chicago works with the local police force to solve crimes’ joint production between Canadian and American networks).
