Frozen 2
Coming back with a sequel, Frozen II is not a disappointment. With catchy songs, introduction of new characters (Bruni!) and a great story line, Frozen II is now the new everyone’s favorite winter movie. Released around Thanksgiving, Frozen II had achieved a blockbuster success with their magical journey into the unknown world.
The movie started with the iconic two sisters, Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) enjoying their new life after Elsa was appointed the Queen of Arendelle. However, the peace was disturbed by a mysterious voice urging Elsa to find it, thus their adventure started, followed along with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), the famous cute snowman Olaf (Josh Gad) and the loyal reindeer Sven.
The movie highlighted on the relationship of siblings, portrayed by the two sisters whom both had promised never to keep a secret from each other. Their relationship were troubled by the mysterious voice, challenged to go through the enchanted forest, covered by fog mist to solve the root of the problem. Elsa had to push Anna away in her journey to Ahtohallan, not wanting to endanger her life. Anna and Olaf arrived at a dark cave, after washed away by the river looking for the way out. Anna was upset being pushed away by her sister, but when she received a sign from Elsa about the past, she stood up to make things right again, not wasting away the effort of her sister.
The part where Anna was in the cave alone when Olaf disappeared to the sky was heart wrenching that you could hear sniffles in the cinema theatre, while she sang on how alone she was, without her loved ones. The dark ambience of the cave, highlighting more the sadness faced by the always cheerful character.
The main song highlighted in the movie was Into the Unknown (Idina Menzel & Aurora), which was the voice calling Elsa to Ahtohallan, learning about her identity and the place she belongs to. The song was impressive, leaving every viewer a memorable piece that would make you hum unconsciously.
Another side story was about how Kristoff was trying hard to find a way to propose to Anna perfectly, but ended up in misunderstanding and was left behind with Sven during the journey, with added humor and a boy band-ish song. He however managed to save Anna from crushed by the Earth spirit, helping her to reach the dam. Kristoff was an appraised character by many as he respected Anna in her choices, never getting in her way but instead supporting her throughout the adventure.
The movie also portrayed the value of sacrifices for their loved ones. Elsa sacrificed herself, following the voice into the unknown, falling deep and was frozen as she managed to uncover the sinful past of their grandfather. The people of Northuldra also prepared to protect their people while the Royal guards from Arendelle were ready to protect their royal families from danger. Anna and Elsa also had to sacrifice Arendelle, breaking the dam would mean the whole kingdom will be drowned. However the spirit helped Arendelle from drowning, as the sisters managed to make things right again.
Olaf character was put on with growing up theme, where he sang about how he will understand all nonsensical things that he saw when he grew older. One of Olaf’s memorable quote was “Water has memories” which played an important key in the journey.
The Frozen II movie was a great watch, suitable for all ages as it teaches a lot of familial values and love. I would recommend this movie to watch with family, friends or even alone!

Wings to fly
My dear,
you were the wingless angel
so beautiful
rare and precious
My dear,
you stared up the sky
Wishing to fly
Soaring up high
and feel the wind between your hairs
and among your fluttery wings
My dear,
your wish was my command
I built you the wings
to help you reaching for the sky
and to see your smile
My dear,
the wings to fly
for you to the sky
had made you
fly too high, too far
and never coming back
My dear,
my flying angel,
my gift to you
was a forfeit for me
the wings to fly
made you left
never wishing for the Earth again

Being different
I was born into a family where I had an older brother and a younger sister. Yet I was so different that I felt like I was not born into this family, I was not their biological siblings. Of course, that thought came up a lot when I was younger, pondering on why I was so different compared to my siblings. As I grew up though, I could understand everyone have a different persona and a different mindset –overall different mentally and physically no matter you are siblings or not. I still do think we are very contradict with each other, but we also have some values that we share that made me said, “Ah, this is why we are siblings.”
Feeling different from other people could be negative, but also positive. In my family, my mom would always said that I was quiet, not like my brother and sister whom both had an energy of a Red Bull drink, buzzing off the walls. My dad would point out how fast I was in memorizing the multiplication tables compared to both of them. Firstly, being pointed out that you are different could make you realize the qualities that you possessed are different from other people. The feeling; “Ah, so I could solve maths faster than them,” could make you realize you have the potential of a talent in mathematics. Realizing the great qualities that you have gave you an opportunity to discover yourself and your limits of how far you could go.
But on the other side, being pointed out your differences could make you feel left out, the isolation leaving only negative traces while growing up. I felt left out a lot when I was younger because I was very imaginative that people could not catch up with my thoughts. My thoughts made it hard for me to play along with my peers, resulting in whether my ideas were rejected and played along their ideas or I was laughed at and had to voluntarily leave the playtime session. The feeling of being isolated made me try hard to match along with my friends so that I would not be excluded, even if it means I had to keep my thoughts to myself. My family could not understand my words when I was young, they took my words as a child who knew nothing even though I could perfectly understood their gossips while they were talking fully in English when I was five. Isolation for a child is never a good thing, would resulted in a very timid and shy child or worst, a child that refuses any kind form of socialization. We all do know that socializing helped a lot in a child’s growth, mentally and physically.
Being different is never all the time negative, I assure you. Different rather make you special, a different quality from other people. I was a left-handed, the same as my mom. The percentage of left-handed writers are less considered to the majority of the right-handed people. Left-handed was born naturally to write with their left hand, more like an instinct. My brother tried to teach me how to write when I was young but ended up in frustration as I kept holding the pencil with my left hand, it did not feel right to held it in my right hand. I never had a problem learning to write, my friends and siblings found it was interesting and tried to imitate my writing most of the time, though it ended with squiggly scribbles of lines. Left-handed people was said to see things differently, they can use both sides of brain hemispheres effectively which leads to quicker information processing and faster reactions. That is why some baseball players in the Major League are lefties and they are in the top tier.
Being different in the family, I have a different interests compared to my family members. However this interests ended up with my family; my dad specifically misunderstood it as a weakness. My interests came in books, colorful characters and beautiful music. Not being interested in active things such as sports (and was given no talent in it) made my dad worried thinking I am weak and would not stand a chance against other people in the future. So my alarmed dad forced onto me a lot of things, and being a child in an Asian household, it’s not like you could reject them anyway. He forced me to take various competitions other than sports, he was a teacher at my primary school which only made him easier to push me in those things. I was taken into storytelling, was forced practice with a microphone in front of my whole neighborhood. I was put into an action song team. He put me into the primary school cadets and as a school prefect. His reason, not wanting me to be weak. He compared on how my sister could already ride a bike when she was just six while I only started mastering it when I was ten, it only got worse when he sent both of us to Taekwondo classes (luckily I quit after due to I got into a boarding school). It was sad that my own dad did not believe in me and see me as a weak person, making me vow not to do the same towards my own child. However, I did benefit from him sending me on stages as in secondary school, I fell in love with staged drama and debate. I felt great meeting with people of the same interest as me, enjoying every step of it without someone on my back, whispering that I am weak.
Being different might be seen as a weakness, pointed out like a sore thumb among the majority. But hey, in the end all that matter is you being yourself. I accepted how I was different was, and it was never negative. It was just a part of me, a part that I was born with. You can’t force other people to accept you fully as you are, they might had a different view of you no matter they are close to you or not. Being different makes you special, makes you see the quality of yourself that other people could never have, even if they call you weird. And you are never alone! There are people like you, you just need to be patient in waiting and searching for them, because they would do the same. I am very grateful being born different among my siblings, but having a great group of people that similar as I am.

One day getaway
Longing for a short getaway from the stressful weeks of assignments was what had driven me and my friend to a spontaneous plan of a one day escape. It was simple and yet quite an impact it had for both of us. My friend and I agreed the day was worthwhile for both of us.
It started off by the morning around 10.30 AM, we drove to the Penang Cat Studio & Spa, in Bayan Baru near the SPICE Arena area. It took around 10 minutes and the location was situated at The One Terrace Plus Shop, can easily be found through the navigation app Waze.
The cat studio is where you can visit and play with the cats! The fluffball friends are all very friendly with the new people that came in through the door, never shying away from affections. However, during our visit, the studio was undergoing some renovation. The staffs explained they had to move some cages to the front which might made us uncomfortable with all the smells due to the litter boxes. Since we were there already, we decided to just give it a go, not letting any chance to meet the friendly felines to waste. It was quite uncomfortable with all the smell but we believe it will get better once the renovation is over.
There were a lot of breeds of cats, especially the Maine Coon, Persian, Sphynx and Ragdoll. Some of the cats were also mixed breed. We had a lot of playing with them, they would come all over you and shower you with their playfulness and purrs (and sometimes furs too). Wearing black color clothing is not recommended due to the furs of the cats. But they do prepared a roller to clean away the furs.
There are some rules that you need to follow in order to not make the cats uncomfortable. Cats are very sensitive to a lot of things. Some of the rule are you are not allowed to manhandle the cats, disturb them while sleeping or eating and not to pull their tails or limbs.
The prices per visit is RM9 per adult and RM5 per child. Students got a discount available only on weekdays, RM5 per person. The owner was very nice to us she decided to give us student prices even though it was on weekend!
They are closed on Monday and open at other day at 10 AM. For Friday, they open for 24 hours. The studio also sell their own cat themed merchandise if you are ever interested in buying these cute items.
After the cat studio, we decided to drive to SPICE Canopy, just beside the area where the cat studio was situated (less than 10 minute if walking). We had lunch at a contemporary Japanese restaurant, Sushi Brito. It was different from the typical sushi restaurants settings. It was comfortable but the only defect was there was no toilet available that we had to go out to look for one. The food was also affordable and tasty, suitable for a great lunch. I would recommend this place if you would like to try a different style of fusion Japanese food. They served sushi in cups, burrito sushi and also burgers with green tea buns and rice burgers. Greatly recommended!
My friend and I decided to stop by the Black Whale, one of the famous bubble tea shop that opened its new branch recently at D’piazza Mall. Joining the bubble tea craze, we tried their milk matcha with added bubble. The bubble tea was great, with their popular menu of cheese tea, brown sugar and green tea, it also comes with nice packaging which is rare for bubble tea vendors to provide. The interior of the shop was full of modern vibes, with whites and grey marbles pattern, accentuated by sparkles of gold here and there, looking exclusive, making it one of the best Instagrammable spot in Penang. There’s also 2nd level of seating open for bubble tea lover to enjoy their drinks while hanging out. A cozy space to spend quality time with friends.
Though it was short, it was nevertheless a perfect getaway for both of us, driving around Bayan Baru, relaxing our mind and sharing fun memories making new feline friends and tasting good food, before facing the stress with a more positive mindset. A short getaway is very recommended, to take your mind off work for a while, looking for something new to discover and at the same time releases stressful thoughts behind, relaxing the tense physically and mentally. So plan yours and spend it however you like it 😊

Walking down the hill
Walking down the hill in the morning was different from the night. I stepped on the last stair, the morning sun blinding my eyes as I brave through the misty morning. The world is waking up, everything feels brand new but familiar at the same time.
morning sun -
golden light
God’s gift to us humans
The morning could be bright, could be somber. The remaining of the night rain and the puddles in potholes, sky disguising in grey with no sun in sight. I pull my jacket closer, hoping the heat would last till I reached the bus.
The walk down the hill in the night, chilly wind would blew through my spine. Rustling of leaves might leave me scared, but a journey must go on. As I walked, the lamppost shone through, giving guidance in the dark. I was not alone.
Moon was there instead of the sun, in the phases of its own pace. When shone brightly, even the stars were blurred by the moonlight. Imaginary wolves’ howls could be heard, if you’re living a life full of imagination.
In the night,
dogs howling
cats screeching
rumbling of cars
- everything got louder
hill in the dusk-
soft pink sky
colder winds
mystique but serene
during dawn-
pure morning dew
quiet streets
people still in dreamland

Food Review
(photo from kokcheehou.blogspot)*only the first one. others are all mine
Japanese food or restaurant could be found anywhere around Penang from various sushi to ramen. One of the Japanese restaurant me and my friend had visited was Sushi Brito. Sushi Brito had opened their second chain in Penang, at the ground floor of SETIA SPICE Canopy. It was quite easy to look for as it is not hidden and was easily noticeable. Sushi Brito operates every day from 11AM to 9.15PM.
What makes Sushi Brito different from other sushi restaurants is that it is not a normal typical sushi restaurant with a conveyor belt moving the sushis around the store. The restaurant settings are quite like a normal restaurant, not like we had expect a Japanese food restaurant to be.
However, instead of serving sushi in a small plate, they serve sushi in a contemporary way. One of their signature menus is cup sushi, where the sushis are served in a white porcelain cup with prices depending on their type of sushi ranging from RM2.90 to RM5.90 per cup.
Speaking of menus, another signature menu was related to their name which is Brito, a simplified way of saying ‘burrito’, a wrapped type of food. Sushi Burrito is on top of their menu in the website as their main dish. The special burrito is made by wrapping the seaweed over the rice and fillings. They also used their own special sauce. Other menus for mains are rice burgers, donburi (rice bowl topped with fillings), udon and macha burgers. Each menu had various flavors that you can choose, and their price are also affordable!
We ordered a curry udon, salmon donburi set (with miso soup as side dish), tamagoyaki on a stick, takoyaki and a set of mochi as dessert. The mochi fillings came in red bean, peanut butter and black bean flavors, only for one stick! An excellent choice to try different flavors fillings. The red bean fillings are sweet, while the peanut butter fillings have a smooth texture, but still have the distinct nutty taste. The black bean paste are also sweet and savory, making it a perfect combo for a prefect dessert.
The salmon donburi was also freshly served with a warm soup, a great combo for a hearty lunch. If you are not a fond of soup, other alternative presented for a side dish is French fries. You can also order the mains as a la carte. The fish was grilled to perfection, and added with scrambled eggs and vegetables, it gave the best healthy lunch you could ever ask for.
The curry udon was thick and does not have a strong flavor which is nice for people who did not prefer strong curry taste. Curry in Japanese are known to be sweet but not to worry, the curry is adapted to the local taste. We ended our lunch with a peach green tea which was refreshing sweet sour flavor in the hot summer weather of Penang in the mid of October

Winter walk
It was all fine
You and I
Walking together side by side
Until a thought crossed my mind
I took a step back, watching as you walk alone on the stony grey path
How would you look without me by your side?
Was what I had in mind
Lonely
Cold
Sad with your shoulders sag
Like a withered flower
In the cruel winter
So I ran to you
And hold your hand
I never want to see you
In the lonely winter
Alone
But my love
Where had it been wrong?
As I tried to
Hold on to your hand
Faded by the moonlight
Vanish into the violet sky
Your last smile was all I remembered
Your last song was a goodbye
An omen, a tragic one
My love
Winter has come again
Are you lonely?
Cold?
Sad and your shoulders are sag?
Because I am
Withering in the snow
Hoping to listen to your voice again
