“The consensus among modern commentators is that the first marriage of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn took place on 24 or 25 January 1533. The evidence comes from two witnesses, neither of whom, admittedly, was present at the ceremony. Eustace Chapuys said that it took place ‘on the day of St Paul’s conversion’, i.e. 25 January 1533, and about the time that Dr ‘Bonart’, i.e. Edmund Bonner, came back from Rome, which, as Bonner told his colleague William Benet, was also on 25 January. Thomas Cranmer himself, writing to Nicholas Hawkins in June 1533, seems to agree, saying that Anne ‘was married much about St Paul’s day last’, although I myself knew not thereof a fortnight after it was done’.’” Diarmaid Macculloch,

One of my favorite niche art genres is definitely “medieval Italian nobility absolutely pummeling each other in the face with snowballs”

similarities between Elizabeth Woodville and Anne Boleyn are always interesting.
Both their mothers were more highborn than their fathers. Both were noted for their charm and intelligence that captivated kings. Both their husbands had quite similar (surface-level) personalities. Both were highly influential as queens and understandably used their station to promote their families. Both were disliked by sections of the nobility including members of their husbands’ families. Both their reputations were slandered by contemporaries, including accusations of witchcraft, even though they were actually very pious and generous. Both had loyal brothers who were executed due to their connection to them. The nature of both their marriages was called into question which led to their downfall. Both their children were declared illegitimate for a certain span of time. Both of them went through immense hardships throughout their lives, but eventually “triumphed” (in a historic sense rather than a personal one) by their daughters becoming successful queens.
