Given your recent post, can you recommend some procedural life sims that you think most people haven't heard of?
(With reference to this post here.)
Sure. I’m going to pass the buck deciding which ones “most people haven’t heard of” and use a numeric cutoff: if I’d recommend it and – at the time of this posting – it has fewer than 500 Steam reviews, I’m counting it as sufficiently obscure. As requested, I’m also going to exclude pure dating sims from consideration in favour of titles with at least some procedural gameplay. So:
Black Closet - A high school life sim where you play as the president of an upper class boarding school’s ridiculously powerful student council. It’s definitely the most “gamey” sim on this list, playing like a digital board game complete with virtual dice rolls. Content warning for discussion of homophobia – the player character is a lesbian, and her political enemies will try to use that against her. (You may have gathered that the game’s title has a double meaning there.)
Deiland - It’d be remiss of me not to include at least one actual farming sim on this list, and this is that game. It’s lightly inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, and casts the player in the role of the eponymous Prince managing his own little planet. Rather more solitary than most farming sims, as you’re alone on your planet, though you can cultivate relationships with several of the spacefaring visitors who drop by from time to time.
Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor - You play as a financially struggling janitor in a quasi-dystopian spaceport. Apart from keeping a roof over your head, the protagonist requires access to expensive drugs that cause them to randomly switch genders (their species has over a dozen); going too long without will cause increasingly severe dysphoria, reflected by progressive distortions to the graphics and IU. Not the prettiest game to play; it’s one that places the high concept over accessibility.
Queen of Thieves - A lightweight dungeon crawler/dating sim hybrid where you play as a trio of sisters who decide to form an adventuring party following their mother’s mysterious disappearance. It mostly deserves its mixed reviews, as the dungeon crawling gameplay is frequently very rough around the edges, but it serves its purpose. And yes, to anticipate the obvious question, there are just enough female datable NPCs to have all three sisters hook up with ladies in the end.
All of these games are available and out of early access at the time of this posting. As for upcoming and early access titles, you might keep an eye on Kynseed, Mineko’s Night Market, Ooblets, Potionomics, Re:Legend and Summer in Mara – the last being from the developers of Deiland, above.
(Also in development is the magic-school life sim Witchbrook, which is so obscure it doesn’t even have a publicly accessible website to link to at the moment, but you should be able to Google up some info if you’re curious.)

“Girls want a Superman, but they walk past a Clark Kent every day”
You fuckin CLOWNS think you’re a CLARK KENT? Not on my fuckin watch. You dumb, headass motherfuckers are barely a Guy Gardner and you think you’re a CLARK KENT? The amount of disrespect is unreal.

“This war is a great big mess, and there’s not a whole lot you and I can do about that. I mean, we can get back to London and try to get to the men who can.” “I am the man who can.”

Stark Tower has literally got the best wifi in the whole of New York and Tony makes it free as well so sometimes he’ll walk out of the ground floor and just see like a dozen or so people, usually kids, just sat on the doorstep on their phones or laptops and like it’s such a little thing to do but yknow. He’s Ironman. Give the kids some damn fast wifi.

The thing I love about cats is that they’re basically born ready to throw down. There’s something strangely life-affirming about seeing a ball of fuzz that could fit in the palm of your hand with room to spare react to an unfamiliar creature literally a hundred times its size by going “I roll Intimidation”.
