in many ways, Beyond Evil is a slowburn of a relationship culminating in a climax moment where nobody else could witness the enormity of what was happening. Dongsik and Joowon went through every stage of knowing, disbelieving, trust, doubt, betrayal, and choice, and even though the strength of the dynamic was shown it was still relying on them needing each other to solve something. them needing to use each other even. but in their climax moment, Dongsik's decision isn't born out of need but rather out of choice. he keeps his promise despite nobody pushing for it anymore. there was nobody who would have betrayed him anymore, and he chose to make sure that Joowon's trust is upheld. even though Joowon himself had stopped expecting it, even though he tried resisting it when Dongsik offered it. and it is framed as a benediction, a gift even from Dongsik (who has suffered due to the injustice of so many people) to Joowon (who wanted to believe in justice so desperately from the beginning). Dongsik gives him the opportunity to uphold that and does it in the most tender way, outright guiding Joowon through it. and there was no audience for that moment, nobody except for them in that room. in a show where everything is a performance, a theatrical weapon even, this one moment is quiet and filled with the most vulnerable form of love. absolutely exhilarating that they said that maybe trust is simply love that doesn't fear surrender.
