whenever you work on anything at a very low level you hear people say "don't bother, people smarter than you have already done it better" and I hate that so much. How did they become smarter? How did they learn to design these low level systems and make them perform very efficiently? They certainly didn't do it by throwing up their hands and going "well, someone smarter than me has already done it so I may as well use their implementation and not put any more thought into it"

People keep comparing Luigi Mangione's case to the subway murderer who got off because of systemic eugenics, but I think there's something more apt about the fact that a CEO had someone executed in recent memory, with zero attempts to find a culprit, while they spared no expense at all to find (and probably frame, it's beginning to look like) someone who shot a CEO. It's always fine to slaughter if you're rich, but if you kill the rich, they will hunt you down.
