the lights flicker on see that silhouette upon and as the lights go out does your eye turn blind the houses stand quiet not a word out from that window above someone's staring you down

it is my birthday! happy birthday to me. 🎂

i decided to treat myself to a drawing, so here she is, my persona (one of)/mascot, Director Sol or just Director (any/all). you may read a little about her and some process about making the drawing below :J

her design has change quite a bit throughout years and its fun to compare just how far she has come this year alone. from change in clothes (i usually draw her in a long autumn coat) and colors (a lot more vibrant since i have adapted the 2 primary palettes), to how her silhouette flows, each year i grow more fond of my choices. my favorite is the hair, im really enjoying how the hair strands whilst clearly looking like antenna and aren't too on the nose with the inspiration, making her look like an alien of sorts. together with a tail splitting at the end but lack of splits there's both room for centipede and plasma motifs. one day i will make them a proper style guide hmm hmm.

as for the background its actually a mixture of 2 photos: this one and this one. i painted over one photo with colors of another and added trees and snow on the background :) was actually really fun :D second photo, one i used for colors, i really love, and had it saved for ages and always wanted to use it for art. the entire setting of it just brings me so much comfort: the winter twilight, the glow of the lamp, winding staircase, looming buildings tangled in branches of naked trees. very romantic. i can just smell oily foods and cigarette smoke seeping from apartment doors.
