A/N: been in a little bit of a writing funk for the past month-ish so here’s another short and sweet drabble 🫩 hope yall enjoy <3

“can’t believe i need fuckin’ glasses man,” jey whines, shaking his head as he slowly stops the car at a red light.

i shake my head, smiling. “you’re such a baby.”

he turns to me with a sad, puppy dog expression. “i’m serious, ma. jeyce and ‘ciyah are always calling me unc to begin with. what’ll they think now?”

i snicker and quickly cover my mouth when he narrows his eyes at me.

when he rolls them and turns back to the road, i smile and reach out a hand to play with the thick curls at the nape of his neck. “they’re just teasing you, baby. and besides, you’re gonna look even more handsome with them.”

he scoffs in response. “yeah right, more like goofy.”

“well,” i reply, pulling my arm back and resting my head on the headrest. “it’s only right that they look fitting.”

he shoots another look at me and i teasingly kiss his nose before looking out my window.

“hmm,” i hum, scanning the hundreds of pairs of glasses on the display wall.

josh groans from behind me. “they all look fit for a damn grandpa. i don’t wanna do this shit, bae.”

i sigh, grabbing a pair of thin black frames off the shelf, not even bothering to turn around. “josh, baby, you heard the doctor. your vision will just get worse overtime if you don’t go through with this.”

he sighs again and, out of the corner of my eye, i see him run a hand down his face.

“here,” i say, turning around and opening the rims. “try these.”

he lets me place them on his face and adjusts them once i back away.

my heart swells at the sight of him.

“baby you look adorable!” i gush, doing tiny jumps of excitement.

he softly smiles at my reaction and looks into the tiny mirror sat on one of the shelves.

he tilts his head to get the full effect and, for the first time today, his smile doesn’t fade.

“they don’t look that bad,” he admits, fixing his hair in his reflection.

my smile widens and i step forward to wrap my arms around his waist. “you like them?”

he shrugs. “i don’t like having glasses but, these ain’t ugly.”

i squeal and stand on my tippy toes to kiss his cheek, immediately followed by a tight hug. “we have a winner!”

he chuckles and hugs me back, making sure to kiss the top of my head before pulling away.

“thank you mama,” he almost whispers, staring deep into my eyes.

i tilt my head in confusion and move my arms up to his neck. “for what?”

a relaxed, handsome smile comes over his face. “for gassin’ me up all the time.”

i roll my eyes playfully, a tiny smirk plastered on my lips. “well, you make it easy, playboy.”

he chuckles and leans down for a quick kiss.

i kiss back and he places a few pecks on my cheek before pulling away.

“cmon mama,” he says, taking my hand and placing a kiss on top of that too. “let’s get outta here.”
