So I just made This Post about why people who use the term 'TMRA' are sort of outing themselves as bigots, but I want to expand on it further.
The reason that the term “MRA” exists is because it was a specific movement, led overwhelmingly by cis (white) men, who were angry that women, queer people, and racial minorities were finally gaining the rights they had been denied for centuries. “Men’s Rights Activists” were never about equality or justice, they were about preserving patriarchal dominance and crying victim the moment the playing field became even slightly more balanced.
That’s why the term “MRA” has the connotation it does: it’s about reactionary backlash to progress, rooted in entitlement and misogyny.
And over time, “MRA” in internet culture became shorthand for something even more specific: the kind of incel-adjacent misogynist who spends all day on forums ranting about how feminism has “ruined” society. It conjures an image of bitter cis men who aren’t just against equality, but actively hostile to women’s existence and agency. So when people say “MRA,” what’s being invoked is a very particular kind of reactionary, hateful, cis white male centered politics.
Now compare that to how “TMRA” gets used. What it actually means when people say it is: “trans men who speak up about their oppression” or “trans men pointing out real injustices faced by them and their community.” In other words, people are taking the language of reactionary bigots and applying it to a marginalized group who are fighting for liberation. That’s not only nonsensical, it’s deeply transphobic. It suggests that trans men wanting recognition, safety, or rights is somehow equivalent to cis men whining about losing privilege.
Those two things could not be further apart.
And this gets at the root of why using “TMRA” is such a red flag. It betrays that the person saying it doesn’t actually know what was wrong with MRAs in the first place. They don’t understand that MRAs were bad because they were a backlash against oppressed groups gaining ground. Instead, they think “MRA” just means “any man or masculine person I don’t like who points out something unfair.” Which is both frankly intellectually lazy and a gross misuse of political language.
If you can’t tell the difference between a cis guy angry that women want rights and a trans man fighting for his survival, that says more about you than it does about him.
It also shows just how much inter-community transphobia festers in queer and trans spaces. When people toss around “TMRA” as a slur, what they’re really saying is that trans men don’t belong in trans liberation, that their needs aren’t valid, or that their calls for recognition are a nuisance.
That is, it's the assumption that trans men are either not “real men” enough to matter or “too much men” to be deserving of solidarity. Either way, it’s dehumanizing.
So when you see someone throwing “TMRA” around, you’re not seeing someone with a nuanced critique. You’re seeing someone who collapses all politics into “men bad,” who refuses to take trans men’s struggles seriously, and who signals loud and clear that they don’t understand the very history and harm behind the original MRA movement. It’s not just ignorant, it’s actively harmful.
If you actually care about trans liberation, you don’t waste time recycling the language used for a specific type of cis white male bigot to punch down on your own community.
You don’t undermine trans men for daring to name the injustices they face. You stand with them, not against them.
You understand that solidarity means taking everyone’s oppression seriously, not dismissing it because it doesn’t fit your narrow framework.
Retire “TMRA” from your vocabulary. Trans men are not the enemy, they are comrades in the fight for liberation.

just saw a transandrophobic blogger (who i will not name) send themselves an anon mocking this blog pretending to be a transmisogynistic trans guy whining about trans women. they said in the tags they had sent themselves the anon. like wow you hate trans guys talking about how they experience oppression so much you send yourself literal strawman anons to mock us, as if by doing that youre not fully proving our point.
(note: i did not check the blog to see pronouns or gender, because quite frankly it doesn’t matter if they were trans or cis or man/woman/nb, its still a monstrous thing to do. by using they pronouns for the blogger i am NOT intentionally misgendering or degendering them.)
This is blatant and intentional transandrophobia.

watching chappell roan say that she loves trans people only for her to backtrack later and say she meant only transfems, and then also saying she was inspired by and likes notorious 'we need to stop young girls from mutilating their beautiful breasts' country singer Jason Aldean
This is transandrophobia.

“cis woman pop singer in drag says men are incapable of making good art” genuinely sounds like the title of an onion article. but she won a grammy because critical thinking is cringe or whatever
